Classroom Writing Project

Writing is one of the most important skills that I have learned throughout my years in school. I have learned that no matter how much I love or hate it, writing is a necessity; I might as well try to be good at it. Writing has been in my life for many years. There are many types of writing, educational writing and personal writing are two that I will mention in this essay. I have learned how to allow writing to help me in my daily life. When I began writing I hated it, however, I have learned the many uses of it, and it has become a huge part of my life.

Writing is not just marking letters, words, or symbols on a piece of work. My perspective states that writing is not just expressing yourself through words; in fact, it is mostly one’s expression; your emotions, thoughts, beliefs, etc. Correspondingly, according to myself, writing is extremely artistic and evocative way to reveal one self’s personality. Most important, I am in the creative writing class, because I desired to be in it, due to the fact that it is my passion, it is a way I can express myself thoroughly, and it makes me feel as if I am in a whole different world where I can reveal everything I desire.

Writing for me began as a kindergartener. My teacher made me write my name over and over again until I could write it without making any mistakes. In elementary school all my teachers taught me to put words I had learned together to form sentences. I was eventually taught to avoid fragments, and

I have always loved to write, and it became even more evident when I entered elementary school. I quickly befriended a girl named Beth, who lived just down the road from me. One afternoon that I remember in particular was in the middle of the summer. She and I were set to write a book. We had read countless storybooks on our own, and we could not see why we could not write one too. We sat down with a notebook and two pencils, and we were set to go.

I 've always liked writing. Even before I knew how to write I would make up stories and pretend to write them down. Each year in high school I 've written a multitude of essays on varying topics. I have selected three of these writings from each of my years in high school to examine as part of this rhetorical analysis of my writing history. As I 've grown older, my writing style has changed and I 've learned more about the world and developed my own personal writing voice more and more.

Writing has never been a real interest of mine. The only time I had to write any of my thoughts on paper was in school. I believed that one had to have that special trait or gift in them that made them a good writer, just like athletes are gifted in their sport. After reading the articles by Pat Mora and the other one from George Orwell, there can be many reasons as to why anyone would like to write.

Flannery O’Connor, a great American novelist, once said that she writes because “I don’t know what I think until I read what I say.” Writing is not just a torture device that English teachers bestow on students. We write for the ability to express ourselves and to set memories in stone for the future.

The ability to produce a good paper is one that comes with time. It is a meticulous process involving many elements, each requiring a great amount of attention. Although good writing takes a lot of effort, completing a great piece can be very satisfactory. The skill of good writing can be carried over throughout your entire life, making it a very valuable ability to acquire.

Writing has never been a chore for me. I feel like I’m writing at my best when I’m writing narrative stories, or narrative essays. Unlike research essays, narrative essays allow me to use my own brain, my own imagination, and my own experiences. There are many different types and forms of writing that are out there to do. My interest in writing wasn’t always apparent to me even though I sought out activities that included the skill. I enjoyed English classes growing up, but I never thought I would utilize writing at a heightened capacity for different disciplines and my own creative pursuits. Soon enough, writing became an activity that I did outside of the classroom, especially in public health pursuits during my time in college and creatively post-graduation. Throughout my college writing career here at Edinboro, most of my interest consisted in essay writing and fiction writing. For the many themes I wished to explore, I thought fiction might allow me the most creative avenues. As a double-major in English Writing and Sociology, I have been obsessed with themes of race, time, memory, language, history, and communication.
