The Cleveland Browns preseason has come to a conclusion so here’s a look back on what happened. Despite losing three of four contests, the Browns played well. The quarterback play was respectable and offered some pleasant surprises. Josh McCown supplied Clevelanders with some of these moments. The veteran appeared more mobile than previously anticipated. His most memorable highlight came against the Washington Redskins. As the pocket collapsed, McCown escaped pressure and found an open receiver in the end zone. He started three games and finished the preseason completing over 76% of his passes for 207 yards and accounting for three touchdowns. Johnny Manziel appeared in two games, looking far more comfortable than expected. He stayed within …show more content…
As for the running back position, Isaiah Crowell seems to have a grip on the starting job. He saw limited reps throughout preseason and even sat out of the final exhibition. Last year, Crowell appeared more explosive and productive (eight touchdowns) than Terrence West, who saw more reps in the backfield. This offseason West received majority of the touches and led the Browns in rushing. There were numerous questions about the second year back, but now it’s no longer Cleveland’s concern. Rumors placed the Towson product on the trading block and a suitor was found. The Browns will receive a conditional 2016 draft pick from the Tennessee Titans. This opens the door for rookie Duke Johnson, who missed an excess of time due to injuries. When he did return to the field, it wasn’t for long as he suffered a concussion. Unfortunately with limited data fans don’t know what to expect out of him, but his potential can’t be ignored. Speaking of potential, that’s what I see in the group of receivers the Browns obtained. Currently, there are seven wide outs on the 53 man roster and any Clevelander knows what Andrew Hawkins, Taylor Gabriel, and Marlon Moore will bring to the table. Additionally, we’re aware of Travis Benjamin’s abilities, but after three years in the league, he is looking like a decent pass
One reason Brown had problems finding his post secondary education and spot in the 2010 draft was because of his rough upbringing and living poorly. Some also thought his size would hold him back from being a star. We have one word for all those scouts who passed on him, whelp!
The same year the browns got the great running back from syracuse Jim Brown. Jim Brown rushed for 12,312 a lifetime record that stood for more than 20 years. The cleveland browns last championship was in 1964 where they beat the baltimore colts 27-0.
Rookie quarterbacks are notoriously not the best idea as the primary option on a fantasy football team. Sometimes even the best aren’t worth much more than an occasional streaming option from one week to the next. Another theory is to roll the dice and see if a rookie with immense future potential, lies around on the waiver wire long enough for you to find him an empty roster spot.
I believe that Barber is the new Sherriff in town, and I have faith that he will step up to the plate and be the back we need. He is more than capable. Allowing Barber the chance to start next season leaves the option to trade Doug Martin. If anyone is willing to risk the
His ability to play multiple positions on the field and lineup in different situations makes it easy for his coaches and even tougher for opposing offenses.
At this point, I think it's fair to say that we would all love to see Ronald Jones grab that starting spot, even with Peyton right there with him. Peyton will get his fair share of touches this year, something that he hasn't really had the chance to do, and with Ronald waiting to prove he can ball at the next level, the 2 of them together are a great tandem. As the preseason approaches, however, let's hope there is less chatter about who the "starting" running back is and more chatter on how productive and diverse the offense can be with both of them on the roster. It's way too early to label starters and the players still have plenty of time to show just how well they are learning this offense. Here we go, another offseason
Lots of eyes will be on Butler, who has the size and speed to potentially take over for Williams – the current Z receiver on the roster. Williams should put up better numbers than Mohamad Sanu – the Bengals’ former number two receiver who signed a five-year, $32 million deal with the Falcons. If Sanu’s 33 catches, and near 400 yards receiving last season set the table for the deal he signed this offseason – Williams should be seeking something
Out of New England comes reports that the New England Patriots have traded a future undisclosed draft pick to the Houston Texans for services of wide receiver Keyshawn Martin. In order to make room on its 53-man roster, the Patriots also put defensive lineman Khyri Thornton on waivers. It is worth noting that Thornton was immediately picked up off the waiver wire by the Green Bay Packers.
He just signed a $70 million contract with the Cowboys, and I know he's ready to prove he is worth every cent. The wide receiver is entering his sixth year in the league, and his career numbers so far are on-pace with the other WR greats in the NFL. Bryant has recorded 381 receptions for 5,424 yards, and he has an impressive 56 touchdowns.
"I have thrown a lot at him, giving him a ton of reps," offensive coordinator Jake Spavital said. "I think the kid has the right mind set. You can tell that he has played a lot of football. He was actually a quarterback at Rice at one point and then he has been a receiver. He has played at the college level. Really right now he is trying to figure out the offense and all of the ins and outs of it. He can hopefully get out there and help us. I have been pleased with how he is so far, we just have to keep repping over these next two weeks and developing him and getting it to where he starts to think slow is what I’m trying to accomplish with him."
With the loss of starting QB Devin Gardner (1,896 yards passing, 10 TDs) and leading receiver Devin Funchness (733 yards receiving, 4 TDs), Coach Harbaugh starts a new era in Michigan football with a couple of junior running backs and a few returning offensive lineman as the basis of the team's 2015 offense. Harbaugh acknowledges this is going to be a rebuilding process and hopefully fans will give him time to employ his own experience. For now, his offense will revolve around two talented RBs who shared time in 2014. The team's leading rusher was De'Veon Smith who had a total of 519 yards and 6 TDs. He will be competing for playing time with Derrick Green who had 471 yards and 3 TDs. With 7 QBs listed on the roster, the starting QB role will most likely be determined by who is able to show leadership qualities during practice before the season starts.
At Michigan he spent the majority of his time at the tight end position. In his career he had 1715 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns pretty good considering the Michigan football program hasn’t won in recent
Merriman in his career ended up going to three pro bowls. The knock-on Merriman is he had a steroid suspension for the first four games of his second season and only played for five years for the chargers having been released in 2010 due to injuries and lack of production, eventually retiring after playing for two more years with the Bills. Thus, leaving Phillip Rivers who still plays great to this day even in his old age as really the only great asset who the Chargers got for Manning. This will be known though as a trade the Giants won as they have won two super bowls to the Chargers zero.
"I think he’s worked extremely hard, all last year…on the practice squad,” McCoy said. The success he had last night in the return game didn’t surprise me at all.”
Zach Mettenberger looks to be the back-up at quarterback for the Titans. He saw second string action completing 8-of-11 passes for 129 yards and a touchdown.
