Climate change is an ongoing process that has always happened, however there is no point in history where a cooling or warming curve has ever been so steep. The warming curve directly correlates with the beginning of the first industrial revolution to the present day. Before then Carbon levels stayed below 300 ppm, as ice cores from the poles show. Now for the first time since humans and their ancestors took first steps on this planet, they are above 400 ppm. Current carbon levels in the atmosphere, as far as science can tell, are just behind that of what they were around the extinction of the dinosaurs. Regulations on emissions are a must and should be updated and monitored by all countries around the world. Pushing for clean and sustainable
Climate change is not a new concept. It has been mostly referred to as global warming in the past. As much as people would like to file this issue away as something to deal with at a later date, it simply cannot wait. This problem we face is costing us billions of dollars, forests and wildlife are being eliminated, and people are dying. Starting to sound like a big deal, right? Future generations will be affected the most. People who do not even exist will have to pay for what we, all people, have done to this earth. To begin to make changes, one must realize the severity of the issue. Bill Mckibben, author of “Recalculating the Climate Math,” conveys that “We’ve already raised the world’s temperature by one degree—enough to melt almost half the ice in the Arctic, kill off huge swaths of the world’s coral, and unleash lethal floods and drought. July and August tied for the hottest months ever recorded on our planet, and scientists think they were almost certainly the hottest in the history of human civilization” (Page 3 of 5). Global climate change is a serious problem because it increases natural disasters and is the cause of extreme weather.
The report of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), consisting of more than 150 scientists, states that (Stocker, 2013) “Warming in the climate system is unequivocal and since 1950 many changes have been observed throughout the climate systems that are unprecedented over decades to millennia.” In the last quarter of twentieth century, the climate change problem has been the global issue. From the
We might disagree on the causes of global warming; however, we cannot ignore that it is happening. Although we still experience cold winters, average global temperatures has risen drastically for the past three decades. Polar ice caps are melting; as a result, sea levels are rising. Scientist predict more extreme weather in the coming decades, in fact, droughts will probably be more common. Also, flooding and tropical temperatures might cause large amounts of methane gases to be released, which could be disastrous for our atmosphere. Climate change may have human causes and also it might be a natural occurrence. Nevertheless, we must find ways to save our planet.
65 million years ago dinosaurs were wiped out from the land. They ruled the land for 165 million years. What happened to them? A lot of people believe that the the extinction of dinosaurs was from a huge asteroid that killed them. But theories say that was just the final blow to end off the dinosaurs. People say they were dying before that due to climate change. People are skeptical that if it missed dinosaurs and humans would have live together or would they have not. The dinosaurs died due to the climate change but also a asteroid.
Stephen Gould’s essay “Sex, Drugs, Disasters, and the Extinction of the Dinosaurs” completely agrees with Joseph Williams and Gregory Colomb’s essay “Argument, Critical Thinking, and Rationality.” Gould’s essay deals with three theories for the extinction of the dinosaurs, two of which he argues are entirely invalid because they are not in accordance with the basic rules of argument laid out by Williams and Colomb in their essay. Gould also states that the third theory of dinosaur extinction, natural disaster, follows all the rules that Williams and Colomb espouse, and thus is a sound argument. Gould, Williams, and Colomb all state that the world has a problem with irrational arguments being shoved down people’s throats, and call for a
The earth’s climate has been changing and will continue to do so in the future. It is only going to keep on getting worse and it is getting to the point where humans will most likely end up in a situation of life threatening diseases and even death. Contagious diseases are spreading menacingly due to weather extremes as heat wave, droughts, cyclones, floods, and tornados (Dhaka). That is just the start of the effect of climate change and its consequences. Many scientists have already warned that millions of people would die in this century because of climate change unless the major reduction in greenhouse gas emissions is made (Dhaka). However, there are more than just reducing greenhouse gas emissions to help solve for climate change.
Climate change has been happening over the last century, and the debate of its effects has become more intense over the last years. The issue of the climate change has become national, to the point that even the government has gotten involved. The fight between the government and the environmentalists has created a controversy in the United States, but not many changes have been done to protect humanity.
In the two essays being discussed we learn that science has a vast range of definitions. Science is the effort to understand (or to understand better), the history of the natural world and how the natural world works with observable physical evidence as the base of understanding. Science is about how the hypothesis is developed and how well it is defended.
Climate change is a serious issue, or is it? Since the late 1990’s the temperature rose dramatically, but surprisingly since 1998 the average temperature only raised a little. (why climate change is taking a break) This is because of increase of Greenhouse gasses, and carbon. These are natural gasses, in many ways science proves Global Warming is a natural problem that overtime will figure itself out. The famous El Nino’s are a good example of this, in 1998 there was a very strong El Nino, and the temperature went back down. I and many scientist think Global Warming is natural and here's why.
As stated in the previous section, climate change is not necessarily a new issue. However it’s been receiving the spotlight lately, as it should. The issue of the “Greenhouse Effect” has been around as early as 1820’s when scientist Jean Baptiste Joseph Fourier theorized that the Earth should be colder than it is. His main idea was that the Earth technically had a blanket around it, trapping in heat and keeping us as warm as we are.
To understand actions that activists push the government to adopt, we need to understand what climate change is about. The steep rise of global average temperature from 1850 to 2006 is called climate warming (Muller 363). International Panel on Climate Change, an organization aiming to reach consensus among scientists, politicians, and diplomats on climate change, claimed in its latest study that it is 90% likely most of the global warming in the past 50 years is caused
The climate changing was first suspected in the 19th century when scientists in britain debated whether Europe was covered by ice in the past. “Guy S Callender suggested that the warming trend revealed in the 19th century had been caused by a 10% increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels.” (Harding) The debate intensified by 2005 when a study was published stating that a large scale disruption could occur by 2050 if we do not slow the process of climate change. The debate has now spiraled back to whether climate change is occurring or not. However the climate warming pattern has been increasing exponentially since the 1950’s.
In the modern world Volcanos and Asteroids many seem completely different but they both happen to have similar effects. Around sixty-five million years ago a mass extinction occurred wiping out many animals, including all the dinosaurs. There are many theories towards this mass extinction but the two theories with the most scientific background knowledge is the asteroid theory and the volcanic theory (National Geographic, 2017). These two theories both could have caused many destructions on earth such as fires, earthquakes and dust killing anything in its path. Even though many different theories have been put forward the reason for the mass extinction is still unknown.
I feel that global warming is taking place due to the human beings influence of the earth. When I say influence I mean the use of fossil fuels, aerosols and other hazardous devices that humans have derived for comforts. These chemicals that are being used have and continuously harmed the environment, not just with global warming, but the pollution of our natural resources Now we the human race is suffering the effects of global warming that is causing the melting of ice glaciers. Glaciers that have been in existences for hundreds and are now subject to the greenhouse effect. The chemicals used for our everyday lives and the pollution caused from such uses have not only directly impacted the earth’s environment, it has caused the melting of ice glaciers that are hundreds years old or more. In my opinion, glaciers that have been on this earth for that long do no simply melt due to the cycle of the earth’s natural weather patterns. There are multiple facts to support my opinion, but in this case I will only reveal the three that I think are the most substantial to support my point. First, “carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere are increasing” (Mulvaney 2013). This aspect is undisputable in the science community considering that the levels have increased dramatically even over the past decade. Second, the “Arctic Sea ice is in a Death Spiral” (Mulvaney 2013). The ice in the Arctic Sea, and many other parts of the world, is vanishing at an alarming rate.
There are several causes of recent climate changes, but today the global warming is representative by human activities. Firstly, due to industry revolution, the industrial areas have been increased as well as they have changed the balance of the carbon cycle by burning huge amounts of fossil fuel such as coal, oil and gas. Besides, today lots of factories has growth and they exist the carbon dioxide to run machines to produce electricity, then all of things go into the atmosphere. Climate change is having different effects in different parts of the word and generally increase temperature, which changes the weather patterns across the planet. This is called global warming, which now create big problems for people and wildlife, and it is a major part of climate change. Furthermore, rising population leads more vehicles are used, lacking of accommodation and decline the quality of welfare, therefore air pollution, water pollution and environment pollution came out as the results. In fact, poor countries
