It is possible to conclude that Climate Change has rapidly picked up in the last few decades due to fossil fuel emissions caused by humans, creating a warming of the earth that is melting the glaciers causing sea levels to rise each year. The sea levels rising have already shown some low level communities living by the ocean just a preview of what can later be seen in many years to come. With the glaciers melting away, humans all around the world are losing an astronomical percentage of fresh water as well, which have been stored in glaciers on the edges of the globe. With the process already taking place in today’s world, the only thing left to do is to embrace the consequences, and find a way to slow down the process of melting and save some of the lands that will be soon under oceanic waters, or to adapt to the new world that we will be seeing in the near future. “Throughout its long history, Earth has warmed and cooled time and again. Climate has changed when the planet received more or less sunlight due to subtle shifts in its orbit, as the atmosphere or surface changed, or when the Sun’s energy varied. But in the past century, another force has started to influence Earth’s climate: humanity”. (Earth observatory) Humanity has taken a toll on the world we live in. Dispersing an incredible amount of fossil fuels that has been destroying the world day by day. With the population of humans greatly increasing, the fuel for humanity had also needed to rise greatly to host
Climate change is known as one of the greatest threats to the planet. It is not only a threat to the planet environmentally, but it is a threat socially and economically. As we all could feel, see, and know, the weather patterns globally and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere have been increasing over an extended period of time. Although it may seem like it’s not a dramatic change since it is data from over a large amount of time, it is considering the fact that the large amount of time is not that large as it should be. Climate change is nothing new to us. It’s happened many years ago in the past because a variety of reasons but as the years go on, the rate on charts are just getting higher. As much as I would like to blame this predicament on nature, humans has a fault as well. We release thousands of greenhouse gases into the air through many procedures, but there are things that we cannot entirely control. However, whoever’s fault it is to blame I believe that if we work together and think we will more likely be able to find effective solutions for this problem.
We ask ourselves how might human activities have affected global climate change? Well human activities contribute to climate by causing changes in earth's atmosphere in the amounts of greenhouse gases and cloudiness. Mostly it is burning fossil fuels. This releases carbon dioxide gas to the atmosphere. There are many ways that the humans can affect our environment. Deforestation, burning fossil fuels, and hydrocarbons are ways this can affect. In this paper i will explain how each one contributes to global warming. I will support my discussion with evidence and consequences of the effects of each activity. It will also have alternate energy and solutions included that are most sustainable in our area.
The human race all around the world wonders if the climate is changing due to human activity or if it is just a natural occurrence. At certain parts of the Earth's surface, the climate can be observed much differently than other locations. As the years go by the average temperature of the Earth increases by little intervals. There are several different reasons why people believe the climate is changing every year. However, the increase of worldwide population and production of heat to the atmosphere is due to the increase of human activities that take place on a daily basis. Human activity is the main cause of the global climate change. The human impact on climate exceeds any known changes due to natural processes. The impact of this human activity is often misunderstood when looking at climate change.
Humanity, as a species, has failed to keep our environment safe and sustained. As we advance technologically the earth is getting hotter, potentially so hot that eventually it’ll be uninhabitable(kind of like Mars). Humanity is at fault for this as around the time of the industrial revolution different fuels were being discovered and uses for them created. The use of these fuels (typically burning) cause greenhouse gasses to be trapped in the atmosphere, locking in heat. If humans didn’t have the unquenchable need for advancement, even at the cost of their own planet, we would have never had this issue.
For many years now, scientists have believed that our climate is changing. This climate change has caused water currents up north, near Antarctica to shift leading to warm waters taking the place of the usual cold arctic waters. Warm water melts the glaciers and causes the top of the glaciers to float off into the sea, allowing the warm water to melt even more glaciers. The extra glacier melting into our sea has caused the sea levels to raise and the
The very nature of our ocean is to rise and fall, to sway with the pull of the moon, and to churn violently as the winds howl. The ocean has been this way since its inception and it will continue to do so as the arrow of time marches on. There have been cycles in which the nature of the ocean has wavered, but an equilibrium is kept, and life adapts. However, in our grotesque folly, we have decided that this should no longer be the case. We have changed the nature of our oceans so suddenly that life is crushed by force exerted through this change. Temperatures rise without regard to ecosystem or environment. Glaciers sweat profusely from the bombardment of heat. Sea levels rise. The importance of the oceans to the world at large cannot be understated.
Exploitive human actions damage the earth. Human’s daily habits cause rising temperatures from carbon dioxide emissions. The excessive use of coal, oil, and natural gas leads to more carbon dioxide emissions, which traps more heat causing the temperature to rise (Friedman 32). For example, in the last 100 years, scientists measured an increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide from 280ppm to 400ppm (124). Based on research conducted by NOAA, temperature and the concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide have a strong correlation. Temperature rises as carbon dioxide rises. The growing population of the world leads to increased exponential resource consumption and growing levels of carbon
In all, Earth’s oceans are diverse systems that all of life depends on for survival. The oceans act as a large conveyor belt; transporting varying volumes of water do different parts of the world. Any kind of alterations or disruptions to this conveyor belt causes regional sea levels to rise. These alterations are greatly impacted by anthropogenic climate change, the long-term alteration of earth’s climate as a result of human activities. The main ingredient behind climate change is the constant changing of global temperatures due to increasing levels of greenhouse gas emissions produced by humans. Mankind became intertwined with climate change during the industrial
Persistently higher temperatures caused by global warming have led to greater than average summer melting as well as diminished snowfall due to later winters and earlier springs. This imbalance results in a consequential net gain in the rate of runoff to ocean evaporation, causing sea levels to rise dramatically. Sadly, many take slight notice towards this fact because it may not seem a dreadful and urgent effect at first. However, after concluding that a sum of forty percent of the world's population lives within one hundred kilometers of the ocean, the severity of this effect is clear. Thousands of major towns and cities will be flooded, putting millions of lives and billions of dollars' worth of property and infrastructure at risk. As the water reaches further inland, it can cause destructive erosion, wetland flooding, agricultural soil contamination, and loss of habitat for fish, birds, and plants. These are just what a single effect of global warming will cause, showing that this matter must be taken seriously by all. Remember, This planet is our home, which means it is our concern, and if we don't do something to protect it...who
There are many species who live in the arctic and all of their lives are in danger because of global warming. The amount of water stored in glaciers, ice caps and permanent snow is about 24,064,000 cubic meters according to the USGS. If all of this ice were to melt, the sea level would rise 216 feet. This leaves most of Florida under water, and small islands in danger. The realization people need to make is that this climate change is no longer a theory, it is happening now. In Miami Beach, Florida, they have what is called “sunny day flooding” because on high tide, “you might have to use a canoe to get to work.” These are the early signs of climate change. Miami Beach is in the process of a 400 million dollar project because they are raising their roads so people can drive places without the roads being flooded. Dr. Enric Sala, a National Geographic Explorer, says “We are burning so many fossil fuels that the ice is melting… in 2040, you will be able to sail over the North Pole.” Jason E Box, a climatologist in Greenland said, “If the temperature continues to rise like this, Greenland is going away.” In Box’s climate research 5 years ago he had a hose that went down thirty feet into the ice. Five years later, the whole thing melted up and all of that ice melt is now stored in the sea. The realization that so many people and animal species are affected by this and we have known about this issue for a
Coral reefs are decaying at an alarming rate, the acidity of the ocean is increasing rapidly and devastating local economies, and the polar ice caps are melting, causing a frightening increase in ocean levels, and the last time atmospheric carbon dioxide levels were this high, humans didn’t exist.
Human activity since 1945 incite a significant change in the environment and causes climate change. Both J.R. McNeill and Peter Engelke in The Great Acceleration expose that humans exploit energy from alternative resources to survive and thrive. Their activity to gain these resources impel the extinction of biodiversity.
It is not surprising that the Earth’s climate has changed rapidly through the century. What really comes as a surprise, however, is that almost everyone acknowledged the notion that climate change is man-made. Why particular phenomenon existed? With innumerable signs given by our planet, like global sea level and temperature rise and shrinking ice sheets, it is beyond doubt that our climate is changing. Yet, climate change authentically is an action of the nature itself.
Along with the deep seas, there are signs of rising sea levels. This is being contributed to the melting of Glaciers. According to National Geographic’s “The famed snows of Kilimanjaro have melted more than 80 percent since 1912. Glaciers in the Garhwal Himalaya in India are retreating so fast that researchers believe that most central and eastern Himalayan glaciers could virtually disappear
The earth is a beautiful and extraordinary planet, but are we treating it right? For the past 20 decades, temperatures have been rising along with hundreds of factors contributing to it. Climate change concerns the public as they wonder if its occurring, how much has occurred in the modern era, what has caused it, what the effects will be if we don’t do anything about it and much more. Many people and scientist agree that mankind is the number one cause of climate change. Humans have influenced this by greenhouse gases, methane nitrous oxide.
