After World War 2, everyone was happy, unfortunately this happiness didn’t last long. The Soviet Union and United States had many differences. One of those many being, the Soviets believing in Communism and the United States believing in Capitalism. This little disagreement sparked one of the deadliest wars in U.S. history. The U.S. put the Soviets under a policy known as containment. This meant the Soviets were going to be watched and kept under control. This was to insure Communism wouldn’t spread fast or anywhere else. The strongest example of containment is the Cuban missile crisis, while North Korea vs. South Korea is the weakest example.

The Cuban missile crisis is the best example of containment. On January 1959, Cuba becomes communist under Fidel Castro(document D). in May of 1962, Soviets begin shipping 40,000 troops, 60 missiles, and 158 nuclear warheads to Cuba(document D). October 23, U.S. …show more content…

North Korea’s attack came without warning and President Harry Truman with the help of the United Nations, vowed to defend democratic South Korea(document C). American forces that occupied Japan after World War 2, were sent to defend South Korea(document C). the American commander, General Douglass MacArthur, made a risky, yet successful counterattack at the port of Inchon(document C). North Korea was pushed all the way back to the border of North Korea and Communist China. In November of m1950, China enters the war and pushes the U.N. and U.S. forces back into South Jorea. The war finally ended in 1953 very close to the original 1950 borders. The war caused more than two million deaths, including over 50,000 Americans(document C). I believe this is the weakest example of containment because the United States never thought about keeping a eye on Communist countries.
