When most people think of War they think of weapons, killing, and vicious attacks, however, that's not what the Cold War was; hence the name. The Cold war was primarily a conflict between the Eastern bloc and the Western bloc involving mainly economic and political actions, but no direct military action between the United States and the USSR. The Eastern bloc consisted of the Soviet Union and its satellite states, and the Western bloc consisted of the United States and its NATO allies. The Cold War began in 1945, nearly immediately after the end of World War II, then lasting about forty-five years. This war was caused by three main things, those being mistrust between the alliances, differentiating economic and political systems, and major …show more content…
These proxy wars were very malicious and were often occurring in Korea, Vietnam, and Angola. In addition to this war costing so many lives, this war also had a large money cost; nearly Eight trillion dollars. This shocking cost tends to take a lot of people off guard, although war is expensive, most people were expecting things one to be relatively cheap because it was not involving any military action. However, this war was full of threats, especially the threat of using nuclear weapons. In order to have an accurate threat, the United States would continuously be building nuclear weapons in case this war reached that extent. Therefore, that’s where the large cost came in, because, the United States was spending about thirty-five billion dollars per year on the construction of nuclear weaponry. This approximately forty-five year war was a constant worldwide clash between the Soviet Communism and the American capitalism. Fortunately, after losing so many lives and so much money, it is thought that the United States finally won the Cold War. However, the United States is only remembered as the winners, because the Soviet Union lost. The Soviet Union did not meet their goal of “destroying the west and their capitalist

The Cold War was not a war in a traditional sense, but more of a nations psychological caliber. The Cold War was a battle of influence: which nation could manipulate the other through fear and take advantage through said fear. It changed what war meant to the people, and the impact of how we see the world. The Cold War began just as World War II ended in 1945. The United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) rose to be the primary two national powers after the war. Most, if not all of Europe was left in disarrayed and riddled with debt. The US and USSR saw this as an opportunity and acted upon.

The Cold War was the longest war in which the United States has ever partaken and is the only war that involved little to no fighting. After researching the events, reading historical opinions, and listening to lectures in class, I have come to the realization that the war was just an exaggerated argument between two neighbors over which model fence, wood or metal, they would allow in their yards. One neighbor, President Truman, wanted Democracy, and the other
A Cold War is when there is a large amount of tension built up between two countries but no fighting occurs. The Cold War between U.S. and Russia started in 1947 and ended in 1991. It started over a race to build a bigger and better atomic bomb. Although the U.S. working class was able to live comfortably again, the Cold War affected the United States by increasing people’s fears of Communist spies, of nuclear war, and of losing to the Soviet Union.
Consisting of 44 years of violence and civil unrest from 1947 to 1991, the Cold War was a huge turning-point in history. The Cold War however was a war of avoidance, not combat. Defence systems were heavily funded as deterrence to actual war, the belief being a risk of mutual annihilation would be too great to be the side to make the first move. However, the Cold War caused a large variety of conflict and civil unrest around the world, such as the Korean War, Vietnam War and the Cuban Missile Crisis. The War split the world into supporting either the United States, or the USSR (Soviet Union). Both superpowers were associated with two very different political systems; Capitalism and Communism. The Soviets were very concerned about the spread
The Cold War could be described as one of the most 'distant' wars in history because there was no direct military fighting involved, only threats and fights through other countries. Although, many lives and money was lost, it was not as fatal and severe as World War II. In 1947, or right after World War II, the Cold War began due to conflict between the United States and Soviet Union. It ended on December 26, 1991 and the United States endured most of the damage that was a result of the war while Russia became a larger territory through the countries they gained power over. The war took place in the U.S., USSR, Europe, Cuba, Vietnam, Greece, Korea, East Asia and South America and lasted for over forty years. Although both contributed to the war, the United States should be blamed for the increasing tensions of the Cold War because of the NATO, Marshall Plan and Truman Doctrine.

The Cold War was not much a war, but rather a time of tension after World War II between the Capitalist bloc and Communist bloc between 1945-1991. Some important nations during the Cold War were the United States, Soviet Union, and Japan, and there was much tension between especially the Soviet Union and the United States. One of the important wars during this period of tension was the Korean War, lasting from June 1950 to July 1953. This war began due to North Korean forces launching an attack on South Korea, and the United States aiding the Southern nation. The North Korean forces marched to Seoul, and the United States called for military aid for South Korea. This resulted in the prompting of Chinese Communist Forces, which increased the
The Cold War was an over 40 year war between the former World War II alliances The United States and The Soviet Union. This was a war that begun by political disagreements, harsh anti-communist words from Winston Churchill, and a power imbalance between The Soviet Union and The United States. Though it was a war, a new, lethal weapon was used to emotionally harm the opposing country rather than causing physical damage.

During the Cold War the alliance between the United States and the Soviet Union was broken. The Cold War was fought from the mainland of the two powers. This competition supremacy on nuclear warfare attracted other countries that also started making nuclear weapons due to the tension that existed in the world. Both sides directed huge sums of money to their military budgets with each side trying to outdo the other.
