The old Therm-A-Rest pad was very good and it has served me well for many years but it is big and heavy compared to the new ground pad. The scale reads 2 pounds 7.2 ounces with the storage bag. And for extreme cold I have had to pair this pad with a closed cell foam pad like the Therma-A-Rest Z Lite Sol. I don’t have to do that with the NeoAir Xtherm. Lighter, smaller, better. The NeoAir Xtherm is designed to be folded then rolled up which makes it a lot easier to carry in all my backpacks. It weighs just over a pound with the stuff sack. That is a pad vs. pad weight savings of more than a pound and a half. What is not to like? It is a little crinkly so it gets a slight ding for noise but overall it is a clear winner. The Therm-A-Rest NeoAir Xtherm is functionally the same size (72×20 inches) when laid out but it is half the weight, half the carry size, double the inflated thickness and triple the R value.
