A Constructivist approach according to Wenglisnky, H.,(2005) will use technology to help a student better learn and understand a given topic, using visual aids, programs etc. While a didactic will do the complete opposite. It will combine the larger picture of a scenario, going into advanced and more complicated problems that the student can understand.
Aside from the teaching methods used in a technology based education system. There is always constructive ways to use technology as well as unconstructive ways. In a classroom environment a teacher may ask students to do research on a given topic, while setting standards of plagiarism and showing students how to complete research at an early age. It can also be beneficial for students to familiarize themselves with commonly used programs and software used in today’s work industry, such as Microsoft word and power point. It can give the student the ease and facility to find the resources needed at his fingertips.
At the same time it can be very un-constructive for a student if he or she uses technology in a classroom for entertainment and media. While most schools and universities do a very good job in filtering their systems so that students do not access these websites, student always find a way to get to them. It is also possible that the use of a computer or technology can limit a student in certain instances. For instance, a student may be given an assignment to
Throughout this course, a new perspective has provided us with the opportunity to take a look at many of the different ways in which the digital world has become one of the most dominant viewpoints of today’s generation, and how technology has taken over and welcomed itself into many aspects of our lives. This course paper will take a look at one topic of interest in particular, which in hopes will shed some light on a heavily discussed topic in the education world: does technology help or hinder the student. This paper will look to prove the point and discover more about the way in which technology has been incorporated into the classroom, both in an elementary context as well as a post-secondary context, and the effects that it has had on the student, the teacher, and the overall academic development that accompanies it.
In education: technology has change the way teacher teaches and how students learn. Technology has been proven to put teachers in a better position in monitoring and tracking their student’s progress and achievements. For example, the use of technology has made it possible for University of People to be in existence. Without technology we will not be here today discussing about its impact on
As technology has progressed over the years, it has become a greater source for information. Students should be able to use it to their advantage.
Today, technology is advancing faster than ever. It’s incredible how humans have turned it into something more. Innovative ideas such as virtual reality, touchscreen devices, and audio helper (Alexa siri, google.) Furthermore, technology has evolved greatly for the education of students. Although technology has enhanced education, some students can’t fully utilize it if the circumstances at home prevents them from doing so. For example, Anson High School provides laptops that students can take home. With this, we can use it to our advantage to complete assignments online.
Students throughout the 21st century can, without doubt, say that technology has been a part of their learning environment for a very long time. Which of course is true being that technology started to be placed throughout schools across the nation for the past 20-30 years. As students in the modern era, we have been taught through the use of technology, making educational goals attainable through various technology models. Distance education has become one of the more prominent forms of study due to the ever-changing technology offered to this modern era of students; Technology has thoroughly improved academic success. Distance education has a glorious history that can be traced back to its roots in the early 1840’s. “It was Sir Issac Pitman, the English inventor of shorthand, who in 1840 devised his concept to offer education courses by mail, who, in a historical sense, ushered in the first phase of distance education (Matthews, 1999).” Since scholars have been implementing this form of study it has gone by various monikers such as: postal correspondence courses, independent study, off campus study,
It is crucial that students are not just being educated in only one way. Each child is different; as a result, learning styles should be versatile and open to new strategies. By learning to use technology correctly, teachers are preparing themselves, and the students for the future by developing certain skills that will be essential in the 21st century. Most students today use technology throughout their school day. Uses for technology can be found for every subject matter a student has. Some of the most widely used tools are found in the English and Language Arts classes. Writing on word processors allows students to cut-and-paste, save their work, and use spell checkers and thesauruses. With technology students are also given advantages in learning how to read. Reading programs use
Firstly, the permission of using technology in the classroom is a bridge that helps students approach easily to an unlimited source of knowledge in the internet. The internet is a place that converges a lot of information in the world; everything happens in the world can be imported in the internet and updated every day. Accessing to the internet with a technology is the fastest way to obtain the information that people want to look up. According to Frey, the use of technology in the classroom assists to study more effectively. Frey gave the example of the student, Kevin, who’s “entrance to technology in school helps him to build up a complicated honors assignment into the learning environment of school” (42). Moreover, the internet not only has information, but also has learning software, which aid students
I remember growing up and watching my older sister and brother receive English and Math lessons on a small chalkboard that my mother used to help us read and write. It was the same method that her mother and her mother’s mother used to learn. The portable chalkboard was a staple to my families learning ability. In the last ten years technology has seemingly become an extension of ourselves. When I go out with my wife everywhere I go I see kids, adults, toddlers and even grandparents with some electronics device that seems to be occupying their attention. Technology is especially on the rise in the academic communities from elementary schools, to daycares and most notably amongst high-schoolers
Over the years, society has had to adapt to new ages of technology. Since technology has benefited so much over the years, a great example would be in education. Education has thrived with more people completing high school and going to college than in the 1900’s. The big factors that contribute to this are advances in technology. “Advances and popularization of the Internet and other electronic and online tools in the 1990s further developed the potential of technology in teaching” (“Technology and Education”). In this particular area, technology makes it easier for the student to learn especially with the benefits of online learning . It is more efficient to the environment, the teacher and student are able to communicate
As communication technology becomes more flexible and easier to use, it is increasingly being used more and more on a daily basis. With the development of communication technology it is has become easier for individuals to communicate with each virtually through the internet. The use of this technology can help better academic activities to a higher education level, as well as contribute to a more universal access to education, the delivery of quality learning and teaching and more efficient education management while modernizing the teaching curriculum.
To begin, most of us already know that students of the 21st century are quite tech savvy meaning they use technology periodically and get a great amount of use from it. Judging by the amount of time spent on these devices, it should be obvious that many students use these devices for reasons beneficial to their education. For example, is a student is having a difficult time completing a homework assignment, the internet will always have sources for the research needed for their assignment or tutorials on how to do certain math problems. Though it can be argued that technology isn’t allowing us to think deeply about certain things as said by this quote, “The fact is, you’ll never think deeply if your always Googling, texting, and surfing.”- The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains, it can easily be argued that from the research and information gathered from the internet can be used in a productive
