Kaepernick's Actions
I support Kaepernick's actions and choices because, he is standing up for what’s right. He took a knee during the national anthem to protest about the issues that are currently happening , Jaweed Kaleem, a news reporter, for the Los Angeles Times, a news website explains about the actions of Colin Kaepernick and according to Kaepernick, "he set the national debate about race on a collision course with three pillar of American patriotism: football, the military and the police. I am going to continue to stand with people who are being oppressed" (Kaleem). other African American athletes are also sitting out before during the national anthem because of the harsh and bad stuff that the police officers are treating them.
A big controversial topic going around in the news over the past few weeks has been Colin Kaepernick and his stand to end the hardship for people of color and police brutality in the United States. This silent stand started early this preseason when a number of different events involving people of color and police officers around the United States not getting along. However, this has started to become more publicized as more and more people in the National Football League have been joining in with Colin Kaepernick and taking a knee or sitting during the national anthem. This stand has become way more than a simple silent stand as many people around the nation are starting to voice their opinions on this subject. Even though everyone argues their thoughts on this subject.
Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco 49ers quarterback, started much controversy against America when he remained seated for the national anthem during a preseason game against the San Diego Chargers. Kaepernick seems to had developed an enmity against America. He feels that he and fellow African American athletes should not show patriotism to their country because of the unfair treatment their ancestors went through throughout history. Although Kaepernick does have a point about the racial discrimination colored people went through throughout American history, he still has no right to disrespect his country. Kaepernick himself is not black, he is white, but he is just drawing attention to himself.
“I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. … There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.” Colin Kaepernick
“Civil Disobedience,” by Henry David Thoreau is similar to the point the NFL star Colin Kaepernick is trying to get across. Henry says at the end of his writing The Civil Disobedience “Let Every man make known what kind of government would command his respect, and that will be one step toward obtaining it,” he is saying if people will start speaking up they will start to take notice what people is actually saying and wanting. NFL star Colin Kaepernick doing national anthem he will take a knee and not stand because of all the Black African Americans that's getting killed. Not just Black African American, but all the innocent that's getting served no justice. Both had spoke out against the governor and that's how Thoreau and Kaepernick are
At the start of the 2016 NFL preseason, Colin Kaepernick, quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers, decided to take a seat during the National Anthem. His gesture during the first preseason game went unnoticed until the third preseason game. Many Americans disapproved and were very angry with him because America thinks sitting during the National Anthem is disrespectful to our military and our Nation. In an interview,32 Kaepernick said he was doing this because there is too much racial discrimination and police brutality against blacks. By the last preseason game, Kaepernick was kneeling instead of sitting because he respects the former and current military and he thought sitting was too disrespectful against the military. As the NFL season continues, so does Kaepernick's protest. Americans should be for the National Anthem Protest because the protest is fighting racial discrimination and police brutality.
Colin Kaepernick stated, “So I’m in the position where I can do that and I’m going to do that for people who can’t.” I agree with him. Why? Is because everybody has the right to their own opinion. I mean if we have this position, why not do it? When you know that it’s for a good cause. If I was in his position, I would do the same thing. I wouldn’t regret my actions and wouldn’t be ashamed for what I stand and believe in.
The San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback, Colin Kaepernick has been at the center of attention for quite a while now. He is now known for his infamous kneeling or sitting during the National Anthem. He has received both positive and negative feedback regarding his actions. Some may view his actions as right and justifiable, but his actions show nothing but disrespect and a lack of patriotism.
Due to racial injustices and a great loss of African American lives at the hands of police officers, various athletes have decided to peacefully protest by kneeling during the National Anthem before sporting events. However, some commentators have argued that this method of protest is offensive or disrespectful, and very unpatriotic. This form of protest has been a popular topic of conversation and nearly splits the country into two...for, and against. However, every U.S. citizen is granted a right to the 1st Amendment to the United States Constitution, which includes freedom of speech and protest.
In America, the land of the free, people have been in quite the debate about if 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was being disrespectful towards this country by standing up for what he thought was right. In his very own words, Kaepernick stated that "...I've been blessed to be able to get this far and have the privilege of being in the NFL and making the kind of money I make and enjoy luxuries like that". This shows that he knows how privileged he is to be living his life like that, which he might not be able to do in a different country. However, Kaepernick also brings up that he "...can't look in the mirror and see other people dying in the street that should have the same opportunities that I've had and say, you know what, I can live with
I support Colin Kaepernick because the police shootings are getting worse each year. According to Washington Post, 694 people have died so fari 2017, because of police shootings. 143 people were black people. More white has been shot, but the American population has about 13% black people according to census.gov. The population for white is about 76%. Even though 260 white people have been killed, looking at the population, we can infer that black people are getting more killed than white with a number of black people living in America. 2 years ago, according to Washington post, in January, 76 people were shot, and in February, 77 people were shot by police.
Colin Kaepernick is an NFL quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. Over the past season he decided to voice his opinion on injustice in the United States by taking a knee during the national anthem. He believes there is still a racial divide throughout the nation. His goal by taking a knee was to make people aware of the situation in the most peaceful way possible. Even though many people criticized him for what he was doing, many others were very happy to see someone in a position like his trying to voice his opinions. There were numerous other NFL players that sided with Kaepernick, and also took a knee during the national anthem.
When you think of protests what do you think of? Most of the protests that people see on television are a group of people marching in the streets. These protests can either be peaceful or harmful. San Francisco 49ers’ quarterback Colin Kaepernick took a different approach. His protest was not in the streets, it was on the football field. He kneels during the national anthem before games. Everyone has their own thoughts on his protest, some agree, some do not agree with his protest. Colin Kaepernick’s form of protest is a very ineffective way of protest while disrespecting the people that represent and angering many.
In a pro football game in London, 3 players for the Miami Dolphins were spotted kneeling on the sideline. May other teams in the nfl were also spotted kneeling during the national anthem. The reason many players claim to be kneeling is because they believe that african americans are being treated unfairly and pushed into a lower status than white people. They also said that they will not stand until america fixes its problems. Colin Kaepernick has stated that, “I am not going to stand up to show pride
Our national anthem is a symbol of unity and liberty within our country. However, would a person who does not stand for the anthem be considered a person whom does not respect America? Recently in the preseason of the commonly viewed game of football, the quarterback from the 49ers- Colin Kaepernick- sat down during the national anthem. According to Sandriter, Kaepernick’s protest represents “support for people of color who are being oppressed in the United States, and to take a stand against police brutality” (Sandriter 1). When Kaepernick first started protesting, not many viewers noticed until more NFL players begun to join the bandwagon of protest. As interviews of Kaepernick begin to take place, Sandriter mentions how this quarterback
All eyes during the National Anthem are on the San Francisco 49ers quarterback and other NFL players who have joined him in sitting or kneeling during the anthem. Beginning August 14th, 2016 Kaepernick began sitting during the national anthem this preseason. A silent protest to show support for people of color, and to take a stand against police brutality. Many do not agree with his actions and believe what he did wasn’t simply unpatriotic,
