The disease that I got this time is Collapsed Lung. The cause of this is either an injury that would puncture the lung or from air blisters that form in the lung bursting. Some common characteristics or symptoms are shortness of breath and chest/ upper body pain. What is happening chemically there is a puncture/opening in the lung that causes air to escape out and get caught between the chest wall and lung. The extra air in this space doesn't allow the lung to expand as much as it should. People who smoke or are tall and thin are more likely to have this happen to them. To diagnose the disease doctors will listen to your breathing with a stethoscope to see if there are any breathing sounds or a shortness of breathing coming from one of your
Whenever an adult is in need of CPR you will have to immediately check for a response from the person that is having a difficult time breathing and talking. Once you check for a response you then will need to either have someone call 911 if there is someone else near you or immediately begin CPR which you will start to pump the persons chest 30 times in the very center of their chest, once you have done that you will pinch the persons nose while you are blowing air into their mouth and then call 911 for help to arrive while still giving the person CPR.
70% of her right lung is collapsed and is not taking part in gas exchange
The following case study is of a 37-year old Hispanic male weighing 145 lbs and 70 inches tall found unconscious by his girlfriend. According to her he was unconscious for about 15 hours and she was concerned because he would not wake or respond and was breathing shallow and slow. She then called 9-1-1. The patient entered the ER by emergency vehicle and on my initial assessment Pt had an altered mental status, was very unresponsive showing symptoms of a possible drug overdose. The girlfriend told the physician the Pt had taken 75 mg of methadone and an unknown amount of Xanex and other amounts of Benzodiazepines. On assessment, the doctor noticed his altered mental status and unconscious status. He had a gag
The American Lung Association of the Mountain Pacific (ALA) serves Alaska, Hawai’i, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming (ALA, 2016). The programming in each state varies due to the needs of the community. Despite these differences, the Mountain Pacific states support one another by assessing the overall progress and impact of the Mountain Pacific region to fulfill their mission of saving lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease (ALA, 2016).
When you breath, air travels through tubes in your lungs to millions of tiny air sacs. In a healthy and functioning lung, the airways are open and the air sac fill up with air. Then the air goes back out quickly. COPD makes it hard to get air through the airways and into and out of the air sacs. COPD includes both Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema. Chronic bronchitis is increased cough and mucus production caused by inflammation of the airways. Emphysema is damage of the air sacs.
Lungs: Mild end-expiratory wheezing. Pursed-lip breathing noted and has a prolonged expiratory phase. Chest x-ray shows pulmonary hyperinflation, flattening of the diaphragm; Pulmonary function test (after bronchodilation with 2 puffs albuterol—FEV1/FVC ratio 0.60 FEV1 60% of predicted value)
By entering the field of respiratory therapy, one is entering a growing field of opportunity. There are continually emergent job opportunities in this field whereas there is also a rise of growth in the technology and developments in the field such as medicines, techniques, and other aspects.
When I was a little girl, I wanted to be a dentist just like my mom. If you ask me what I would want to be now, I would probably tell you a respiratory therapist. I would want to go into any medical field because I love helping others and seeing others progress in their illness and watching them grow as people. I also would want a job that allows me to have contact with people everyday. In this paper, I will be discussing what a respiratory therapist does on an everyday basis, the salary and job demand, and the classes a respiratory therapist has to take.
COPD which stands for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, is a group of diseases that cause block of airflow, which leads to difficulty in breathing, and these diseases involve chronic bronchitis, emphysema and chronic obstructive airways disease.
Description: Caused by obstructed airflow within the lungs, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) also causes chronic inflamed lungs.
The body can develop many different types of inflammatory diseases. One disease in particular is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This disease causes obstruction of airflow from the lungs. It is mostly caused by long term exposure to irritating gases or particulate matter. The number one exposure would be cigarette smoke. There are always risk factors with diseases and disorders that are affecting the body. Individuals who develop COPD are at a greater risk of developing heart disease, lung cancer and a vast variety of other conditions. Some risk factors for COPD include:
Respiratory: Patient denies having history of lung diseases such as asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, pneumonia, or tuberculosis. She also denies having chest pain with breathing, wheezing or noise breathing, shortness of breath, hemoptysis, sputum, toxin or pollution exposure. Patient states that she had common cold with some productive cough for about a week last month. Also, patient states that occasionally she experiences shortness of breath when she runs for more than 40 minutes. Patient states that her last chest x-ray was 1 years ago, and the results were negative.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease also known as COPD is a group of progressed lung disease that makes it hard for you to breath. The main disease that lead to COPD is bronchitis and emphysema. Emphysema is known to slowly destroys air sacs in your lungs which interfere with outward breathing. Bronchitis is inflammation and narrowing of the bronchial tubes in which mucus builds up in which carry the air from and to the lung. The symptoms are not major nor extreme. At first, they start off mild and don’t really cause any pain. First some people may experience coughing and shortness of breath and think that they are coming off with a cold. Once COPD progresses it can become increasingly hard to breath. At this point many go to the doctor in
3. My proposed community based pulmonary rehabilitation program will employ some of the cognitive learning theories such as Gagne information processing, Piaget’s cognitive development and Vygotsky developmental theories. Gagne’s information processing theories which works on the principles of thought, reasoning, how the information is stored and memory functioning (Bastable, Gramet, Jacobs, & Sopczyk, 2010) will help with new learning and re-learning information. Piaget’s Cognitive development theory will apply because health educators must know what their patients are perceiving and thinking about their current health condition. Similarly, educators need to know what stage their patients are in to guide their learning(Bastable et al., 2011).
1. Lung disease is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States. Technically any disease or disorder in which lung function is impaired is considered a lung disease. Some common respiratory diseases are Bronchitis, asthma, allergies, and hay fever. First, bronchitis is is an inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes, and less air is able to flow into the lungs, and mucus begins to form. This disease is usually come the environment, such as inhaling certain chemicals, cigarette smoke, fumes from hairspray. Prescription drugs can reduce inflammation, prevent music buildup, and stop bacterial infections. Next is asthma. It is a long-term, chronic inflammatory disorder that blocks airflow into and out of the lungs. Symptoms include
