The phrase “knowledge is power”, derived from Latin roots, strongly resonates with me. In order to know me, not just as a name on a piece of paper, a score on a test, or a GPA you must first understand why this phrase stands out to me. My mentality is credited to my mother. She has worked and pursued an education virtually all of her life in order to better herself and for her children’s sake. She’s my sense of inspiration and the reason I push for excellence. One of the many motherly lectures was on education and the value in it; for this reason she has shown me the benefit and unlimited possibilities with an education. While I do agree that grades are an important factor I don’t, however, believe that that solely shows who a person is or the …show more content…
A few of the programs I’ve been involved in include Onpoint Teen Board, FFA, Girl Talk, BETA club, creating our school’s dance team, and many others. In case you the reader are unfamiliar with any programs listed above I would gladly elaborate. Onpoint is a nonprofit organization which uses the public school systems as an outreach to the youth. Their mission promotes a healthy lifestyle, guidance from peers and adult figures, stressing the importance of education, and is Christ based. The selection process for the Teen Board is very competitive and board members have to reapply every year; which I have proudly been apart of for three years. Girl Talk is another nonprofit organization and is actually relatively new to our community. Their mission, broadly, is to empower young girls and model them into better leaders. It’s an all girl program and the high schoolers mentor the middle school girls. I hope this essay has given you a better sense of who I am. Thank you for your time and
While in high school my GPA was below a 2.0 and that was because I was involved in many sports that I had a strong passion for. I was very driven and dedicated, that most of my free time went into trying to be the best on the softball field and on the wrestling mat in hopes of receiving a scholarship. As an athlete you only needed a 2.0 GPA to compete and at that time I did not focus too much on exceeding that standard.
Contributing to my school and community is a true passion. I am involved in programs like the Red Cross, Angel Tree created by The Salvation Army, and Olive Garden’s Pasta For Pennies. My school hosted a Red Cross blood drive, and I was responsible for promoting the event to individuals within our school. We had a total of two hundred students donate blood. We helped save a total of six hundred lives! I also assisted the Program Angel Tree by promoting the program among the student organizations within my school. Our involvement has helped hundreds of less fortunate children and seniors receive necessities and gifts! As a team, the student council also collects spare change from students in our school. Our collaboration with Olive Garden has helped fund the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's School & Youth campaign. I am truly glad that my contributions have made an impact within my community and society! My strong involvement in extracurricular activities has helped me become knowledgeable, principled, and a risk-taker. I carry a strong sense of respect and righteousness, and I approach unfamiliar opportunities with a vision and great courage. I seek to set an example for members within my school, community, state, and
Throughout the past four years of high school, I have done my best to try and stay actively involved in the community. I have been presented with some amazing volunteer opportunities such as Huron Safety Town, STAR Leadership Camp, American Red Cross, and Huron High School Girl’s Basketball Biddy Program. I spent over 24 hours at Huron Safety Town where I was able to help young students, mainly those going into Kindergarten, learn how to stay safe while on the road. I was also able to spend over 24 hours at STAR Leadership Camp where I was a councilor to those going into the sixth grade. I made sure that each student understood the importance of being a leader in today's society and how important they are to Huron’s community. Through National Honor Society I have been able to maintain in constant contact, approximately 10 hours, with the American Red Cross by volunteering in monthly blood drives. I have also dedicated 16 hours of my time to those young girls interested in someday being a varsity basketball player through the Biddy Basketball Program.
I would like to take the time to explain my spring 2014 GPA of my freshman year to the Admissions Committee. I do not intend to make excuses, but I do wish to provide context in the hopes of showing that this aspect of my transcript is a mere aberration, and is not indicative of my ability or discipline. This GPA resulted from neither the aggressive down-curving policy of NYU Stern nor any of the “usual” hardships experienced when one attends a competitive school; rather, a perfect storm of four distinct issues led to my obtaining an un-characteristically low GPA of 2.8 that semester: seasonal depressive disorder, intense heartbreak after the unexpected demise of my first long-term relationship, a family financial emergency, and an exceptionally

With maturity comes wisdom, and the importance of education becomes more clear as I look to further my academic career. Understanding the need for dedication in school has allowed me to recognize the great impact the same drive in every aspect of my life will have on my future. It is often thrown upon students to study and turn assignments in: students are taught to jump through hoops to earn. As I continue to mature, However, I have realized that there is more to an education than a grade. In fact, the immense number of factors that can go into or come out of academics has greatly impacted the person I have become. For example, I feel as though it is essential to know that I am more than a grade. I am more than a score. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. perceived and portrayed this idea in his famous quote. He helped pave the way for greatness through education by driving his success through thinking critically having the character to reach his goal of a true education.
I have the privilege of being involved with such an impactful organization. While helping, youth developed lifestyle skills, I’m also developing skills. Each year I form some amazing relationships that create lifelong friendships. Excitedly each encounter with the youth helps build my belief on why it’s important to help others along my journey. Therefore, being involved with this organization has transform and impacted
Hi, I’m Emily Margolis! You may know me from different extra clubs around school. I try to involve myself in varied extracurricular activities, like SGA, for school spirit, FBLA, for competition, Junior Advisory, for prom, and Track, as a sport. I spent a lot of time in high school gaining community service through Key Club, Beta Club, and by volunteering at pet shelters and the library. Before I joined Track, I devoted many years to karate and became a second degree black belt. This helped me develop leadership skills, discipline, and patience. At the beginning of this year, I became the Junior Class Advocate.
1. Why did you choose your major and what was your GPA? (Please provide GPA for major as well as overall GPA) I chose international affairs in graduate school because I am intrigued by the complexities of the world and how the various political systems interact on a regional and global level. I chose to focus on security studies because I want to understand the various ways that security is compromised in the modern world and how to prevent such threats to security from occurring in the future.

The admissions requirements for Texas State are very feasible to accomplish. Every year, 73% of applicants get into the university. Although Texas State explains that “no minimum scores are required, you still must submit your SAT/ACT scores”(Office of Undergraduate Admissions). The average combined SAT score was 1135 and the average combined ACT score was 22 (Naviance). Along with the average test scores, “your overall academic record is the most important part of [the] application.” The minimum GPA is a 3.2 for admissions requirements and if lower, you’ll have to make a better grade on your SAT. The Prep Scholar states that “if you’re currently a junior or senior, your GPA is hard to change in time for college applications.” In
Question two asks, can a student keep up their grade performance at the next level (Mirabella, 2011)? Is a strong GPA at the Bachelors level a good predictor of a strong GPA at the Masters level (Mirabella, 2011). Are GPAs naturally going to decline since graduate school is tougher (Mirabella, 2011)? Will GPAs automatically be higher in graduate school because of the 3.00 requirement to graduate (Mirabella, 2011)? The treatment of a C as subpar, instead of average (Mirabella, 2011). Using the sample of 200 students, conduct a hypothesis test for paired samples (Mirabella, 2011). Test if there is a difference in the mean GPA from the Bachelors to the Master's programs (Mirabella, 2011). Use a .05 significance level (Mirabella, 2011). The
After carefully reviewing all of the data pertinent to this case, it is my opinion that the grade for PHIL 1030 should stand.
