In second grade I started reading anything I could get my hands on. The power of knowledge allowed me to approach things for myself rather than as a carbon copy of my parents. Learning became my favorite activity. All of third grade I spent recess inside with my science teacher learning about magnets. I never had a study hall or a free period in middle school because as soon as it was possible, I took as many classes as my schedule allowed. I threw myself into every class and adored all of my teachers because I knew they were giving me something I couldn't get anywhere else. Instead of going to sleepovers, I would read anything my sixth grade teacher recommended. Eventually I started doing sports and musicals and this started my social growth, but I never …show more content…
Part of me liked being able to spit facts out at the dinner table, part of me liked feeling smarter than my older brother, but overwhelmingly I just liked feeling as though I understood things bigger than myself. I'm a good fit for the Honors College because I have good grades, I take challenging classes because they interest me, I studied meticulously and did well on the SAT, I participate in as many clubs and sports as humanly possible, and I read like my life depends on it. More than that, I belong in the Honors College because I love to learn. I'm going to college to get a degree and get the job I want, yes, but I belong in the Honors College because I am driven towards being the best person I could possibly be. In classes that are geared towards learning based on discussion, where students are expected to
Before I started my first semester of college I made sure that my academic and career goals were set to avoid indecisiveness. One of my intellectual objectives has always been to be a part of the honors college. Deep in my heart I know I have what it takes to be in an organization of students that excel with integrity. Furthermore, the benefits that come along with being a student within the honors college can assist me with getting through my scholastic agenda which includes internships, scholarships and honorary mentions.
I want to complete the honors program because I have always wanted to achieve that goal since I was a Senior in high school. I have always been an over-achiever so to achieve this huge accomplishment for me personally. Completing the honors program will mean a lot to me, no one in my family were able to embrace their full potential so this milestone will be something I would not only represent but it shows that I am able capable to achieve more than the average. This will allow me to challenge myself so completing the honors program will show that I was being challenged and I was able to overcome all the challenges that I came accross.in order to be in this position towards being in the honors program but not just aiming towards only being a member of the successful organization but to be an officer within the Honors Programs . It’s a bigger reason than just completing the honors program, it shows that I was able to challenge myself in the hardest way possible when it comes to community college. It will show future employees that I did take my education seriously and I was able to complete something that not a lot of students in general can fulfill during their educational career.
I will engage in research, acquire hands-on experience, and apply what I learned in class in real life scenarios to make an impact on people’s lives. I will partake in service opportunities like my current roles in NHS and FNHS. My personality will benefit those around me. Honors College will place me in courses with exceptional students who are dedicated and focused. They will push my performance as a student. Even now, classmates gauge their performance with mine and vice versa. As a result, they motivate me to catch up or stay ahead of the competition. Competition is the catalyst for improvement. Likewise, I always encourage my peers to do their best, for I want to see individuals succeed. Moreover, there is no point enrolling in classes that won’t challenge me; where I am perched at the top. There is no intellectual growth there. Whereas, challenging courses and talented students help establish high goals for me. This symbiotic relationship between my peers and I will springboard us to greater
I am interested in joining the Honors College because it is essential to me to be surrounded by motivated and determined students, like me. Honors College will provide this type of committed community.
When I was in high school, I wished I was one of the top students in class. And when I saw the top students get awards in my senior graduation, I felt a surge of humiliating emotions – a feeling that I will never forget. I wanted to do it – I wanted to get that award, but I couldn’t. But now, since I can start fresh in college, taking honors college is going to help me get the highest distinction, the thing I couldn’t do when I was in high school. Following my passion will also lead me to stronger sense of the world and how I belong into it and why I am doing what I am. I will also basically have a deeper understanding of myself and the world by being in Honors college.
Joining the Honors College will develop my authenticity, not in the sense that I will be a more honest person, but rather, that I will know more about myself and have better reasoning behind my beliefs. The challenging course load that Honors Students face requires a deeper level of reflection. Students must not only know the material, but have a solid foundation behind it. This forces students to question their worldly views, resulting in a reformed person both socially and academically. Striving for a deeper understanding requires my views to constantly evolve.
My interest in joining the Purdue Honors College stems from my desire to be a part of something that will inspire and support me while I pursue academic excellence within my field right from the start. I believe the Honors College can expose me to a focused learning community and opportunities for undergraduate research and experiences I may have limited access to otherwise. Pushing myself to excel in an academically rigorous program will lay the foundation for my future academic pursuits and career trajectory.
I have always felt the need to succeed in school to help me achieve my life goals. The Honors College helps me with this by offering classes that are meant to challenge me and allow me to reach a greater potential. Not only are the classes challenging, but they are offered in a wide variety of subjects so that I can challenge myself in multiple aspects of my education. By studying subjects outside my field of study, I am able to become a more well-rounded, informed citizen. This then allows me to better contribute to society and affect the lives of the people around me. The honors classes are also a wonderful opportunity to really focus on a topic and be able to get more help because the classes are smaller. Going to a large college, it is
What motivates me as a student is having the opportunity to be a part of a program that allows underserved students to access rigorous courses in order to prepare them for the Honors College as well as giving them the support and mentorship needed to be successful at UMass Amherst. Although I was not originally accepted into the Honors College I feel that I would fit right into the Emerging Scholars Program and be able to transition into the Honors College. The thought of having academic support, challenging classes, and being more active on campus excites me as a student. I believe as a highly motivated student I should be granted the opportunity to continue and work on my leadership skills through the thought and action of a diverse and inclusive
There are many aspects of the Honors College that made me interested in joining this program: the academics, the community, the extracurricular and leadership opportunities. Along with bettering my college experience, I also believe I can contribute to this community with my unique experiences and leadership skills.
Being in an advanced class such as honors will make me push and strive more for my goals.
The Honors Guild first attracted me into joining by its title, Honors. Throughout my academic career, I have been part of honors programs and enrolled in honors classes. In middle school, I joined an advanced placement program, and it was the first time that I found a place for myself in school. Ever since that school year, I have thoroughly enjoyed taking advanced courses because they challenged my abilities and mindset, and I was able to flourish being surrounded by like-mind individuals who pushed me to work harder.
I want to learn as much as I can in college. The Honors College program would allow me to extend my knowledge and to continue learning beyond a major and not be limited to one department. I pride myself for my very diverse schedule of classes throughout my years in high school. I make sure I always have electives, like art, or even a business class. By being a part of the Honors College I hope to continue taking diverse and interesting classes that I wish my high school offered but does not have the resources a college does. My goal is to have a well-rounded education in order to enjoy my college years as well as prepare me for success in the future.
I should be a member of the National Honors Society because I love going out and showing off my passion for helping others and growing with community members who share the same interests as me. I feel that by taking part in the National Honors Society I will grow to appreciate a new set of people and get more in touch with who I am as a person and not as what I conform to be. I hope to bring in a new personality to help add to the atmosphere and to give more to the National Honors Society than just being a bag of luggage.
As I would be around many driven and highly intelligent students, I feel I will constantly be encouraged to push myself and preform to the best of my ability in all my courses. Being a part of something as incredible as the Honors College would be such a humbling and rewarding opportunity, as it would give me the chance to challenge myself in more academically rigorous and demanding courses. I have learned through the advanced classes I have taken during my high school career to welcome difficult material, as there is nothing more rewarding than putting forth effort in an arduous class and seeing it pay off. I can genuinely say that from these advanced high school courses I have developed a strong work ethic, valuable problem solving skills, and a deeper confidence in my abilities. For these reasons, I feel that being a part of the Honors College would not only be a very fulfilling experience, but also cause me to grow more as a person. I sincerely appreciate this opportunity, and I am thrilled at the chance to possibly become a part of this distinguished
