College Connections Scholarship Essay

I believe that my scholarship, citizenship, character, and willingness to serve and lead will be a great addition to the NJHS. When completing work, I am able to finish it diligently and efficiently. Whether it be volunteering at a race for wounded veterans, or doing classwork, I do it to the best of my ability. I would like to gain service experience through the NJHS. In the leadership aspect, I have knowledge from workshops. I am able to be a leader without being controlling in small and large group activities. When working individually I am able to keep my self-control, with a teacher around or not. This includes acting in a respectful manor towards teachers and students. I treat all of my peers with kindness, respect

Over the past year, I have completely fallen in love with my new home here at Western Carolina University. I am so proud to be a part of such an incredible community with amazing staff and students. Next year, I will be continuing my studies at Western, taking courses for my chosen major: nutrition and dietetics.

I have been a part of JROTC for the past four years of my high school career. During my time in the program, I gained more self-confidence and was able to venture out of my comfort zone, which allowed me to join numerous clubs and organizations throughout my high school career. The clubs include the Chess Club for one year, the Environmental Club and AFJROTC Honor Guard team for two years, and Science Olympiad all my four years of high school. The organizations include the National Technical Honor Society for two years and National Honor Society for two years as well and voted Vice President.

The College JumpStart Scholarship will help me attain my goals by earning my bachelor degree in graphic design so I can become a professional graphic designer to a purse a career of my dreams. I am very compassionate about graphic design and how it can help me to achieve to start my own business to share my creativity and gift of art and share my amazing designs to people. I was accepted to University of North Florida and will begin classes in the fall semester. In order to fulfill my bachelor degree, I need this scholarship to pay for books, classes, art supplies, and living expenses on the campus. As a struggle college student, this scholarship will strength my opportunities at UNF to take advance graphic design classes so I can able to graduate

“If you want to get a real education in America you’re going to have to fight” -Mark Edmundson. I have known since as far back as I can remember that I was going to go to college. Regardless of what sacrifices it took to get there. Now after countless hours of studying, missed social outings and numerous student loans, I find myself nearing my third year of college. I have learned from Edmundson you must fight to get a real education in America. On this journey to attain my goals, which are getting my degree in Health Science and applying to the Physical Therapy program at the University of Missouri I have run into another detour. Currently I do not have enough money to pay my current school bill. Winning the JumpStart scholarship will help

Realizing the deficits in numbers of primary care physicians in rural Ohio has been a chief motivator for me to pursue osteopathic medicine at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. My Appalachian home town of Gnadenhutten, Ohio encompasses one of these medically underserved areas, and working with and receiving my tutelage from a couple of the few physicians in my area, I wish to come back to serve it. I believe that Rural and Urban Scholars Pathway program will be an invaluable asset in accomplishing my goals of eventually serving the medical needs of my rural community.

When you first meet me, you will see a determined young woman who wants to make a change in the world, be it small or big. Volunteering at Full Circle Farm is one of the many ways for me to change the world on a small scale, starting with my community. I have been going there for four years and every time I do, I learn something new. The wonderful people there welcome me with open arms, and, young or old, we all have the same goal: doing good for others.

Robert Frost once wrote, “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood and I, I took the one less travelled by and that has made all the difference. As a young, educated, black man I have already chosen to take the road less travelled. Life is a journey where you stumble and fall, but I elected to not become a negative statistic. While in high school I decided to start my college education early in the pursuit of bettering my mind and proving to my ancestors that their plight is being well-respected.

“Congratulations, you have been accepted to Rutgers University-New Brunswick.” These words were, to me, the words of accomplishment and pride. However, these were not the only words Rutgers University wrote to me. In the Fall of 2015, I was an incoming senior at Hunterdon Central Regional High School. Excited about the years ahead, I applied to many schools throughout the United States. I applied to two schools in Alabama, two schools in Indiana, two schools in New York, and only one in New Jersey-Rutgers. My initial goal was to be my own person and go to a University that no one in my family had attended. In fact, my goal was to attend Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. This was a dream because my closest grandfather had planned to go there to study engineering. Being a bright student, he was accepted with a scholarship. Getting ready to leave to form a new beginning and only a few days before graduation, his father passed away. Unable to go from New Jersey to Indiana knowing that his family needed him, he decided to stay home and run the family tile business. Years later when my twin brother and I were born, he was God’s blessing to us. Growing up without a father, he stepped in to fill the gap. As

High School wasn’t smooth sailing for me and my GPA wasn’t at its full potential. With senior prom and all my senior activities it felt as if time was slowly but surely running out. High school was some of my best years but I was dying to graduate and attend college and be on my own but in order to do so I had to score really high on the ACT or SAT. I was so nervous while taking the SAT and I didn’t do good as I wanted to, feeling defeated I studied really hard for the ACT. Even though I studied the butterflies when I entered the room where the test was being administered wouldn’t go away but I did feel more confident. I took the test and waited days for my results. I was so excited that I scored a 24. I learned that if you put your mind to something you will succeed every time. I took full responsibility for my future and I planned on having a bright one. I felt as a weight was lifted off of my shoulders. After receiving the good news I applied to a total of four universities and I was accepted by all of them. Even though I applied to different schools my dream college was to attend Louisiana State University. Unfortunately LSU’s nursing program is not like an average nursing program. Sadly their nursing program is not located on LSU’s campus

In between my eighth grade and my ninth grade year I had an opportunity to help me grow and expand my leadership skills. It was to become a junior counselor at my church bible camp. I would be able to bring gods light to kids and also help relieve the counselors so called weight of responsibilities by taking some responsibilities. I denied it and I really wish I had not because after some thought I decided to give the junior counselor (JC) thing a shot the summer after my ninth grade year.

I am writing to thank you for your generous $1000 Osher Initiative California Community College Scholarship. I feel very honor and appreciative to be the recipient of this awards.

Growing up in poverty meant always being in a pinch for money. This led me to my decision of seeking a job within the first month of my freshman year in high school. Thankfully, this decision led me to the precious self-taught skill of time management. I was able to build my skills until my sophomore year. I tried to take on more shifts at work than I could handle, in aspiration of saving up for a car, and consequently my grades began to slip. I acquired my first C in my favorite class: Chemistry. Being an aspiring student in the medical field, and a student who prides themselves on their grades, I was devastated. As a result, I soon reached the epiphany that one has to have priorities in life; I chose mine to be education. I discussed with my boss my situation and she gave me a set schedule of a doable 4 days a week. This allowed me to do my homework and studying in advance. This also permitted me to get enough sleep,

When I started volunteering at Utica Dance in the fall of 2014, I was just as nervous as the newly enrolled dancers in the class I was about to teach. Even though I was only the Volunteer Assistant to the Dance Instructor, I felt as if a heavy responsibility was placed upon me. I oversaw almost twelve children ranging from seven to thirteen who all wanted desperately to become professional dancers, many of which are still pursuing that dream. On top of that, all these children had begged their parents to sign them up for an expensive, intensive fundamental ballet program; then dragged their parents to buy tights and leotards; then dragged them into the waiting room of a dance

A young person should strive to support their local community for various reasons. Engaging in community service provides people with the opportunity to become active members of their community and has a lasting, positive impact on society at large. Community service and volunteerism enables one to acquire life skills and knowledge, as well as provide a service to those who need it most.
