If you had the chance to be a billionaire without having a college degree, would you still want to attend college? It is a very hard question to answer and a very arguable one. Some would say that they would not go to college because they only intend to gain money afterwards. Nevertheless, others would say they would still attend college reasoning that it is more than just a way to get money. In fact, in his article “College Prepare People for Life” Freeman Hrabowski arguments that indeed college may prepare people for jobs, but more importantly they prepare people for life. However, Caroline Bird in the article “College is a Waste of Time and Money” explains that people go to college just because they have to. Moreover, in the article “Are …show more content…
Most students go to college, according to Caroline Bird’s “College Is a Waste of Time and Money” article, because they have to or because “it is a grateful way to get away from home and become independent without losing the financial support of their parent.” Murray also believes that “large numbers of students are in college to buy their admission ticket-the B.A.”. Hence, being obligated to attend college and the great mass of work that needs to be completed, create a big mental problem for college attendants. To pay off college debt, students often work jobs outside their field of interest, work long hours or work a second job; this will also provoke a huge amount of …show more content…
The military is an easier way to gain money without spending any, or being in dept. It is also, according to Michael Lewis, a financial journalist, the opportunity to learn responsibility, focus and discipline, which benefit “enlistees for life”. As stated by the Center for New American Security, companies are far likely to pay higher salaries for employees with military service. The reason being that most ex-militaries have a leadership experience, a good teamwork skill, a decent structure and very satisfying
One question that comes to mind when graduating high school is, “should I attend college?” For many graduates this question have a very obvious answer. A high school graduate may state that, “college is the best option if one is trying to get a higher level of education, and will help one compete for a higher paying job.” However, in my opinion most graduates do not consider the fact that going to college is a very big decision to make and that the schoolwork will not be easy. Going to college is not the best choice for every high school graduate because many students cannot handle college, colleges’ lower standards, and not all jobs require a college degree.
There I was in my car thinking about my family's past. I remember how my parents couldn't go to school. How I wanted things to change by doing something which my parents didn’t do which was to go to college. Most people can’t determine if college is actually valuable or useless. Colleges are known for being really expensive and many students will need to get tuition. But on the other side college opens chances for students to learn skills to help them in their jobs. College is worth it for some people because it opens up the chance to get more experiences and benefits in their future lives, but for others it may not be worth it since they cannot afford it and may be in debt.
College; something important to everybody. We are told as children that we should go to college by our parents, “you will get more money and be more successful in life”. Although we didn’t know what college was for, we were set to go to it. But, sooner or later we must face the facts, college isn’t worth the expenses!
Receiving a degree from a Christian liberal arts college isn’t only about how we will financially benefit from that degree, but how we develop as people. Having a degree we can all agree will provide us with better career options. Focusing on not only our intended major but also on other subjects will aid us in developing broader knowledge. Possessing that significant knowledge will make it simpler for us to adapt to change once out in the workforce.
The key and initial forces/factors that help children receive a good education are parents’ support, the child’s confidence, and the drive to learn. In The Joy of Reading and Writing: Superman and Me, Sherman Alexie demonstrates each characteristic, strives through obstacles and shines through it all.
Depending on the type of person you are and the ambitions you have, college is not always a good investment. A number of people go to college to be forced to be something that they're not due to what other people want for them. Even as a majority of the world obtained the perspective that college is best for everyone, all individuals need to ask themselves, “Is College For You?”. Let the world know what you want to do with your life, don't invest in something you’re not ready for or something that someone else wants for you. Students stress for college that they’re not officially ready for. The world has made college seem to be a good investment, not knowing that kids drop out after their first year because high schools cheat their students
“In 1971, after seven years in college, with that magic piece of paper clutched triumphantly in my fist, the best job I was able to get was night watchman on a sewer project in Babylon, N.Y. guarding a hole in the ground to prevent anyone from stealing it. God bless the American educational system!” ― Spider Robinson (GoodReads.com). While many are excited about starting college and beginning a new chapter in their lives, too often the college freshman wonders “Is all this really worth it?”. Is a college education worth the money spent on tuition and the time used to acquire it? After the prize is won, college degree, often parents wonder if the quarter of a million spent on said education would have been more useful spent elsewhere – especially when their college graduate now works a minimum wage job at the local fast food joint or like Mr. Robinson – working security.
When entering high school many students already know what they want to do when they “grow up”; however, many students do not know how they will pay for the college education to get them there. Some students will strive for the best grades possible to earn scholarship money to have college funded for them, others will mess around, and end up wishing they had tried harder, and having to pay for college themselves. Those students will have to have a job during college to be able to afford books, tuition, and any other fun things they might wish to do while they are away from home at college. College students working to pay for college tuition or pay off college debt have less entitlement, more responsibility, and take greater pride in their education; however, college students who have their college fully funded may feel more entitled around the college campus, have less focus towards studies, and spend more time at parties, finally they will never understand how much their education was truly worth. While each student may receive the same education, the values and attitudes each student has can be even more valuable than the college education itself.
We can all come to an agreement and say that we have all heard someone in our lives say “You need to go to college if you want to get a good job and live a happy and successful life”. Sounds familiar doesn’t it? You have to admit, it is a bold and powerful statement. But is college the only way to reach the success and to land a good job? Do these people that are constantly nagging on us not realize that with going to college come personal debt, unneeded baggage, and just a whole lot of uncertainties and risks? In their defense, though, college opens the door to many opportunities and there are many benefits and upsides. Just imagine hearing your name being called out and you walking across stage to receive a degree in medicine or even theatre. That fulfillment and satisfaction that quickly fills your body and all you can think about is beginning your life. But when it comes down to the wire, although it is the most logical approach, college is not the only key to success.
I am 25 years going on 26 years old and I thought college was not for me, when I got out of high school. As I grew older I started to realize that I was not satisfied I wanted something else, I couldn’t do things I liked because I was living pay check to paycheck always stressing about not paying bills on time. Soon after I had my son and realized that I needed to do something about my situation, I needed time to spend with him and still pay bills. I decided to go to college and I can say it was the best decision I have made it will benefit me and my son in the long run. A college education and degree can open many doors in a person’s life, and I believe that there are 3 benefits we can all relate to, it can lead to having a better financial stability, better job opportunities, and family stability.
College is an important step in life the big question is should it be necessary? College is the final step in a proper education. Though college is good it can be very expensive. The average college tuition for the state of Missouri is around $25,000 a year at the major university Mizzou. As you all know college is the last bit of education before complete graduation. But there is one question there is one big picture, should college be necessary for a job of today? College shouldn’t be necessary today for these few reasons, It can be expensive, there might not even be an opening in that profession, and that mistakes can be made while in at a university.
The research topic of the connection between students who are in college and the level of stress they inquire financially and generally has had a huge impact on society. College is a very essential tool for life. College is meant to learn and experience a variety of techniques to use in your everyday life. On the other hand, college can become a very stressful place, whether it’s because of your financial status or in general. The increase in responsibilities after transitioning from a young adolescent to an adult is a cause of stress. There are two different sources of stress, external stress and internal stress. External stress is getting a bad grade on an assignments/test or relationship problems. Internal stress are motivators that put high expectations on one’s self to accomplish or achieve something. Financial stress is worrying about how you are going to pay for something and where you will get the money to pay for it. In academic communities financial stress can cause low performance in school work. Also, stress can cause the low rate of attendance in the academic communities. The amount of workload assignment wise and job wise can significantly bring stress due to the balance between the two. A solution for financial stress and general stress could be to make more scholarships and grants available to students, and find ways to relieve stress.
As a student in high school, the pressure of figuring out what I want to do in the future is real. The idea of growing up and getting a college education seems to be always in the back of my mind and it is hard. What if I don’t want to go to college? It’s hard to even think about that seeing as not going to college is often seen as lazy and irresponsible, but should it be seen that way? Is college really worth it?
Is college still worth it? For most students, the answer is still yes. However, there are a number of students who would say no, college is not worth all the money anymore. The pay rates that people with a four-year college degree have had, has risen compared to that of those who have only obtained a high school diploma and no further education beyond that. The average pay that students without a four-year college degree earn, has remained flat. College is worth all the money it asks for in fees and such because a degree pays itself off once a career has begun in the field of study the degree is for. Because of pay rates being so low, a four-year college degree is now more important than ever. Due to the way the economy has become and the inability to make enough money to pay for college funds, most high school graduates discontinue their education after receiving a high school diploma.
Being a teacher, or a police officer, or even an astronaut requires education. Even finding a job requires education. Some people say it’s too expensive. If you go to college and get the degree, that degree gives an higher chance to get a very good job to pay off your debts. Any job or company owner would rather have someone with a college degree than someone with only a high school degree. American RadioWorks says “Today, nearly 60 percent of all jobs in the U.S. economy require higher education.” That means almost all jobs need a higher education then a high school degree. College brings so much more then just better Jobs. College brings better family, better knowledge, and better pay.
