Sex trafficking, particularly that of children, has become a growing concern in the United States over the past several decades (Kotrla, 2010). By definition, child sex trafficking is “when a child (under 18 years of age) is induced to perform a commercial sex act” (U.S., 2013, para. 4), and includes forms such as prostitution and pornography (Kotrla, 2010). Researchers suggest that children are the most vulnerable to becoming victims of prostitution (Kotrla), and it is estimated that there are at least 100,000 victims in the United States (Estes & Weiner, 2001). Sex traffickers, otherwise known as “pimps,” often lure children with promises of food, clothing, love, and shelter, and then the pimps manipulate the children to keep them in prostitution (U.S. Department of Justice [DOJ], 2015). Awareness of the issue has led to the development of organizations, such as Children of the Night, that seek to help victims escape the sex trafficking industry (Children of the Night [COTN], 2016d).

When looking at how long they have been missing, it ranges anywhere from months to years. Looking at their age, both boys and girls, it is hard not to wonder if these kids are being trafficked. The author raises three key concepts about teenage stereotypes by Ellie’s survival during the invasion of a foreign force. John Marsden suggests that she experiences a rapid transformation from a ‘tomboy’ to a hero and is placed in dangerous situations where the consequences are everlasting. Through Ellie’s actions, behaviours and reactions, he also informs the reader about her alters in reality when she learns about the qualities she thought she never had.

In today’s modern world, our mindset in fashion are all based on fantasy; new brands/branding, trends and many more. We all live in a society whereby we tends to buy things that are attractive. As a young child I learned what the good group of kids looked like and what the bad group of kids looked like. In movies, the bad group of people are portrayed in high school as boys who wear really big clothing and girls that wear too dark of makeup. However after my junior year, I now know that you never really can tell between who the good and the bad people really are. Starting from when I was very young, my brother began changing my entire life for the better because I grew up with him in and out of jails and prisons for theft, drug use, and underage consumption. During his time in jails and prisons, it killed my mother and father. However for me, I never really knew the person labeled as my brother. He was a shadow with a name for me.

Kids in middle school, are enduring a time period in their life where they're becoming teens, who are becoming adults. Kids going into middle school are at a point where boys being friends with girls was somewhat acceptable, to adults thinking if two 11 year olds of the opposite genders are gonna have sex with each other if they're left alone together for 5 minutes.

The media portrays high schools being full of identity stereotypes, whether it is in movies, TV shows, or sometimes music. Each school has the group of star athletes, the kids bound for broadway, and the kids who could become the next Einstein. Every show or movie has the same supporting character who each belonged to different cliques.

Have you ever been judged before for the smallest and unimportant things you can imagine? Or maybe you have seen others getting judged for the way they act or dress. On September 16, at James Giles School 7th and 8th graders were having lunch and recess. The students were having a good time talking playing games and eating lunch naturally having a good time. A group of 7th grade girls were talking and suddenly another girls joined them. The girls that joined them was their friend because they would go to the park together and walk together after school. The girls didn't like the idea of joining them. The girls started being mean and judging her of what she wore to school. People that judge others in a mean way know that its mean and hurtful

In a high school, there are many types of groups that are stereotyped. For example, there are the cheerleaders, the jocks, the loners, and the nerds. The stereotype that I immediately fit into was the nerd group. Not only was I placed into that group because I had a brain in my head, I was more specifically placed into that group because I am in the band. The hat, the uniform, and the instrument automatically gave me a free ticket to be part of the band nerds of Priceville High School. As high school progressed, I slowly showed my classmates that being in the band does not decide my personality and other interest for me. I may be in the band, but that does not mean that my life is strictly lived under an umbrella of taped up glasses and Pokemon.

There is a lot about your story that expresses how I felt during high school. I avoided high heels then and I still do today because I could never figure out why anyone would go through that type of pain just to wear shoes. I wore make-up, but I never went as elaborate as my friends did. My hair had a mind of its own and it was always a curly mess that did whatever it wanted to do despite my many attempts to fix it. I wasn't called butch nor did I have problems with people spray painting negative words on my car; however, I do know what it's like to be looked at differently because of the way that I dressed. The two high schools I went to during my time in Arizona and Virginia, consisted of a racial composition of either a majority of White Americans or African Americans. The impact this had on the social makeup of each high school made each experience unique in its own way. Traffickers manipulate adolescents and youth into the sex trafficking through targeting their emotional vulnerabilities. To begin, traffickers use threats, intimidation and violence to enforce or entice adolescents into trafficking. One adolescent, a runaway from Baltimore County, Maryland, is gang raped by a group of men associated with the trafficker, who thereafter executes a “rescue” (Walker-Rodriguez & Hill, 2011) Following the “rescue”, the trafficker imposes she recompense him by working for him as one of his prostitutes (Walker-Rodriguez & Hill, 2011). Unfortunately, in many cases youth are generally beaten up until they yield to the trafficker’s orders (Walker-Rodriguez & Hill, 2011).
