I think that I would be a great fit for San Francisco University because of its prowess as a school that cares about the community, great pre-med program and relatively small class sizes. The fact that USF has been recognized in the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll is extremely impressive. I would love to be a part of such a caring community and help contribute to the tradition of service. Furthermore, the great medical program matches my own academic interests because I hope to pursue a career in medicine. Lastly the small class sizes of about 20 to 30 is perfect for a learning environment. Most of the classes I take right now currently have about 20 students in them and I find it incredibly useful to be able to talk
The National Honors Society allows students to be build and create traits that are essential in a successful adult. I truly believe that hold many of these traits and joining the National Honor Society will grant me the opportunity to expand on these traits and grow as a person. Thus far I have focus greatly on the scholarship aspect of NHS and have been dedicated to my academics. I have held my GPA above 4.0 and have always been devoted to maintaining that high level of academic success. The skills I have shown in devoting myself to my academics can be easily translated into my dedication for the other aspects of leadership, service and character. Having previously held a officer role in the National Junior Honor Society I have gained experience
2. Briefly describe the reasons for your campus/site choice and comment on one or two factors that are most important to you in choosing where you wish to pursue your medical education. (Max. 1000 characters)
It is unbelievable that this year is my last year in Charlestown High School. As I look back at the past three years, there were several poignant moments when I was struggling with my classes and would have given up trying to achieve my goals. But as a diligent student, I chose to endure those moments. And that is how I become an outstanding student today. National Honor Society honors students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. Being nominated to become a member of the National Honor Society is a highly prestigious honor, and I am very grateful to be a candidate.
"Character, in the long run, is the decisive factor in the life of an individual and of nations alike." Theodore Roosevelt. Students should demonstrate scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character because of three reasons. One, if students demonstrate these qualities they are more likely to get better grades and get reprimanded less. Another, without these traits, a student would have far less opportunities in the future. Finally, as students grow they will gain much more wisdom if they allow themselves to work on demonstrating these characteristics. Overall, these qualities are very important in the present, and in the future.
As a student, I have demonstrated many works of service to my community and school. Service opportunities have shaped me into the person I am today and these projects have made me realize how fortunate I am for all that I have. While I've been doing these service projects through the years, it has been a pleasure seeing the joy on the faces of people that aren't as fortunate as I am. Service projects that I have completed include managing the fish booth at the St. Leo's Parish Festival, being an altar server at St. Leo's Parish, helping cook dinner for the Ridgway Fire Department during carnival day setup, participating in the St. Marys Light Up Night by dancing, and Christmas caroling to local residents. I also participated in a zombie/princess
A continuous debate that is currently receiving much attention is whether community service should be a mandatory graduation requirement. Preparing students to effectively function in the real world is an important aspect of our education system. Today more than ever, there is an emphasis on having experience before beginning work. Most jobs are now focused on looking past your resume to see what you have given back to the community. Nevertheless, it is important that schools focus on preparing college students for the work force by mandating that they receive all of the necessary exposure and experience. Numerous schools across the country have mandated that in order for their students to graduate, they must complete a predetermined amount of community service. In Maryland, high school students are required to complete a minimum of 75 hours of service in order to graduate. However, this decision has resulted in a lot of mixed responses. Advocates of this decision stress that mandatory community service opens doors for students, while the opponents feel that it takes away valuable time from students who need to focus on their education. I believe that gaining experience outside of school is critical for future success in life. To ensure that students are prepared to transition smoothly from school to work, they need to be involved with the community while in school in order to build the leadership skills that are necessary to succeed.
Yes. At my high school, I’ve participated in the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) course as well as been a part of the CyberPatriot and Academic Bowl teams offered by the organization. Unfortunately, I could only spend two years of my high school career in that organization due to the lack of schedule space. I’ve also been a part of the International and National Honor Society clubs. The International Club was a club of students that helped to promote and express the different cultures at my school. As for the National Honor Society, we’ve helped the community by completing service projects, such as the Ronald McDonald House t-shirt sale and the Relay for Life event. In terms of school teams, I was a member of the Scholastic Competition
I am a Spanish major with a track in Secondary Education and a minor in International Studies, and I am an Honors College student. Hence, my course schedule is rather tight and does not have much flexibility. This study abroad program is of great assistance, as I will be able to get credits for my Spanish major and Honors College electives during the summer while exploring a new country. Through this experience, I will be able to enhance my academic interests. I am hoping to immensely improve my Spanish language skills and see education from an international perspective. Also, the Honors College emphasizes the importance of experiential learning through study abroad. In addition, my professional career goals include teaching Spanish and going
I am proud to announce Houston Methodist has made U.S. News & World Report’s Honor Roll. Our hospital was ranked 19th, scoring high in patient safety, demonstrating commitment to reducing accidents and medical mistakes, which aligns with our I Care Values.
Five to ten years from now, I will be obtaining my graduate degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences after having built a strong foundation in chemistry, human physiology, and drug discovery. As a graduate student who aspires to synthesize and test new drugs and therapies, I will be working in a research laboratory or participating in an internship to prepare myself for a future in a collegial environment with other medical professionals. By this time, I would have already spent a semester abroad as a foreign exchange student in France to enhance my French minor studies. As an independent student who will have the opportunity to explore Europe, I will be able to expose myself to a variety of cultures and perspectives so that I could develop an understanding of global issues within the medical field and apply different frames of references to my research.
It is a beautiful place in which to live and to attend school. The University of San Francisco has a diverse group of attendees. Going there would be like I never left Dulles High School. I could major in Education and minor in Fine Arts. Their fine arts program can help me improve my artistic ability. I would be taught Art History and be enrolled in sculpture painting classes. Painting things ranging from The Golden Gate Bridge or things in The Golden Gate Park, which surround the school. I’ve always wanted to be an educator teaching mathematics or English to others and preparing them for adulthood. I think moving to California for me to go to school would be a great difference in environment and we’ll be closer to other
While for some students it is a challenge, and even a dread, to fulfill my schools’s 25-hour community service requirement, the number 25 was never of much significance to me. In fact, I had already surpassed this quota in the summer before entering my freshman year.
Community service is a term that will bring a different image to mind for every person who hears it spoken. It can make someone think of volunteering weekends at soup kitchens, court-ordered highway clean-up, or even random acts of kindness within a community. Whatever a person’s idea of community service is, the benefits are undeniable. These benefits are now being recognized by many colleges and universities who made the decision to make community service a requirement for graduation. This decision has many critics who believe community service hours take away from study hours. However, if the true definition of
The experience I had at IFC was incredible because I was able to see the inside of how this local non-profit works from a daily perspective. The moment I stepped into the reception/waiting area I could see a volunteer hard at work helping an elderly man who used a walker to fill out the simple form of what items he needed. The elderly man had trouble vocalizing the fact that he could not write well and began to get frustrated. The volunteer told the man not to worry and just make any kind of mark beside what he needed or to let him know and he would receive it. A softly murmured thank you was the reply from the elderly man. After he finished helping the man fill out the form he politely addressed me and called, the staff member I had asked
Performing public service as a student is like getting job experience before you graduate. Why would any student be against having real world experience added to their resume before they graduate from college? Yet, there are some students who are opposed to the requirement of public service in exchange for a free college education. However, education systems would be smart to add this incentive because encouraging students to perform community service is a benefit to students, to the community, and to the entire country.
