National Junior Honor Society Acceptance Essay

The National Honors Society allows students to be build and create traits that are essential in a successful adult. I truly believe that hold many of these traits and joining the National Honor Society will grant me the opportunity to expand on these traits and grow as a person. Thus far I have focus greatly on the scholarship aspect of NHS and have been dedicated to my academics. I have held my GPA above 4.0 and have always been devoted to maintaining that high level of academic success. The skills I have shown in devoting myself to my academics can be easily translated into my dedication for the other aspects of leadership, service and character. Vince embodied many characteristics that made him who he was: thoughtful, caring, willing to help, active in the community, and hard working. I strive every day to exemplify these characteristics. Throughout high school, I have taken every opportunity to give back to my community through service projects while still being involved in numerous extracurricular activities and maintaining high grades to be worthy of scholarships like this one.

Although lacking in some respects, such as previous community service, I have maintained a strong academic record and proven myself as a capable leader. As such, I view myself as a valuable asset to the National Honor Society.

I am deeply honored to be among students who are being considered for National Honor Society. I had no idea this program existed until I was informed last year. Finding out about NHS lit a fire under my butt to do much better in school. Freshman and Sophomore year I did not do to swell in my academics. I had to get my life together and focus on my future. My change of heart in school has really helped me to become a better person and achieve great things.

I am truly honored to be considered for such an exemplary opportunity like such of qualifying for National Honors Society. Knowing that is it the highest honor that you could possibly receive in your highschool career is a rather surreal feeling. I have worked hard all throughout highschool, pushing myself to achieve the high academic standpoint that I could attain. My whole life I have always been rather a perfectionist so receiving a hundred percent on each and every assignment is always the goal I strive for. I find National Honors Society to be an amazing organization and it would be a dream to become a part of such an organization, and to have it open up numerous amounts of doors in my life.

I am a member of two professional engineering organizations at the University of Rhode Island. As president of the University of Rhode Island (URI) Student Chapter of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS), I plan the society’s events, run meetings, and maintain contact with other officers, faculty advisors, and the College of Engineering Dean’s Office. It is my responsibility to maintain an active and well represented student chapter. Through EMBS I also had the opportunity to attend the 2016 International Engineering in Medicine and Biology Conference, a week-long conference with biomedical researchers from around the globe. In school students getting good grades will help them get into better colleges. Yes, colleges do look for well-rounded students, but the first things that colleges look at are the gpa and standardized test scores. The colleges look at those things to see how well students learn and adapt to each class. Colleges know that each teacher has their own style of teaching, and each student has their own way of learning the material. So, the college wants to see if the student can adjust to each teacher and learn that material. If the student is able to adjust to the teacher and succeed in the class, the higher the grades will be. The higher the grades are, the better the chance of getting into a nicer college. If students get into a better college, there are more opportunities at hand, more opportunities for the student to succeed. Students should always follow their passions but in reality, only seven percent of high school athletes move on to college athletics. And, only two percent of all high school athletes go on to play in Division I athletics (Scholarship Stats). To conclude, students should uphold a B average or better to participate in after school activities because the better grades one has, the more opportunities they get from colleges. A student should be able to juggle their classes, school work and the distractions they take part in. If a student does go out and joins a club, they should make sure they time manage well. They should never let the distractions get in the way of their school work.

I think that in order to demonstrate outstanding character, one must try to do their best and strive endlessly to make their goals and aspirations. A time when I demonstrated outstanding character was during my time as President of Model United Nations my Junior year of high school. Although I've been President for three years now, that year marked my hiatus as a President since with my leadership and guidance we won a Conference. I felt successful in winning a Model UN Conference as well as qualifying for State Varsity Congressional Congress in Speech and Debate. To begin with, extracurricular activities have an effect on a student’s behavior. Students take pride in the activities they are in because they enjoy them. Therefore making students less susceptible to making bad decisions. In extracurricular activities, students are disciplined in sports, which transfers over to their

Grades. They are something that we constantly pester and nag students about. Being one myself, I know exactly how it feels, to have a parent or a teacher, tell you that you still have pending assignments or that you are not scoring well in tests. Usually, during your adolescent years, you try to understand the world around you and pick a path that you want to follow in the future. Also, during this time you are faced with tough decisions like whether you want to hang out with your friends of if you want to study. Sometimes you might just give into peer pressure and neglect or put off education. During times like these it is most probable that your grades would drop, but it is only so fair that you get kicked out of your sports teams or your clubs. At some point in life, your parents, your teachers or even your principals, might of gone off tracks and ended up in the same type of situation, hence it is unfair to say that unless you have good grades, it is not possible to participate in extracurricular activities. Over the years, I have had numerous experiences that have taught me important life skills like perseverance, leadership, personal organization, team building, empathy, and service to others. If I were to be accepted as a member of the Honors College I would share my experiences to influence my peers and add to diverse skills within the campus. Being a part of Honors College will provide me opportunities for intellectual challenge, leadership, and connect with the community of scholars and dedicated advisors and faculty members.

Can being involved in extracurricular activities both inside and outside of school help students increase their chances of doing well during school? Many people in school, no matter what age or grade one may be in, are involved in some type of extracurricular. Of this same group, however, some only participate due to their guardians deciding what they will be involved in as a child. Whether it be attached to the school they attend or not, many people aren’t aware of the many positive effects that extracurriculars may have on their own self, or their child. An integral part of extracurriculars are the students themselves. Without the students showing if they are able to further develop any life skills while participating in the activity, then the teachers and coaches of the like will continue to provide a means for this activity to take place, making everything that any student learns while partaking in this activity useless and not worth any students time. While being involved in extracurricular activities can help boost one’s confidence in the activity they choose to be participating in, during school the activity can also help develop an individual’s sense of learning and sense of being that they would not get the chance to experience otherwise.

One of the parents' greatest achievements and immediate responsibility is to sent their children toschool but sending them to school doesn't only mean to make them accademically active but also tomake them socially active by joining and participating on ectra-curricular activities. Participating onextra-curricular activities contributes a lot and helps the child molds their social being. From preparatory to elementary to high school and even to college, school doesn't only for academicenhancements and purposes, it always includes extra-curricular activities.Students who participate in extracurricular activities generally benefit from the many opportunitiesafforded them. Benefits of participating in extracurricular activities included having better grades,having higher standardized test scores and higher educational attainment, attending school moreregularly, and having higher a higher selfconcept. Participants in out-of-school activities oftenlearned skills such as teamwork and leadership while decreasing the likelihood of alcohol use andillicit drug use and related problem behaviors. Those who participate in out-of-school activitiesoften have higher grade point averages, a decrease in absenteeism, and an increased connectednessto the school.Music, parental involvement, sports - all of these have an influence on how children performacademically. The way children choose to spend their free time can affect their school performance;it is not simply traditional in-class instruction that impacts academic achievement.Students attending school who participates in some sort of organized activities which may includeclubs, athletic opportunities, dance line or cheer teams, Scouts, drama or theater, youth groups,student council, and club sports. There is substantial interest in how teenagers are spending their leisure time outside the school day, and what types of activities are important to their development.Through my research, I found out that there are studies that support either being involved, beingover-involved, or not being involved at all in extracurricular activities and how participation canimpact what becomes of teens in the future based on participation in activities outside the schoolday.Research indicates

Personalities can be a very important feature of oneself, not only in school, but all throughout your life, and attending school and being involved in any extracurriculars can help greatly improve it.
