Community Service
I have been a part of different activities for my community service. I have helped with feeding the homeless with IHS HOSA. We went to Costco to buy items to make spaghetti, salad, and desserts. The day before we went to feed the homeless, we made all of the food. Then the day of, we prepared the food to put into containers, and loaded everything into our cars. We drove all around El Centro, parks, Main St., and outside of well known stores such as Target, and stopped whenever we saw someone less fortunate walking. My community service in this case helped not only he less fortunate, but myself also. Those people were grateful that they did not have to worry about their next meal, and was able to keep that extra change that
In regard to community, I have volunteered for my clubs, DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), BPA (Business Professionals of America), NTHS (National Technical Honor Society), Cross Country and others. From helping the club itself to representing the club through charitable acts, such as making christmas a little better for military families, or helping at assisted living centers. My parents taught me at a young age how to be a considerate
As surprising as it may sound, I have been doing community service since the sixth grade and it is a new experience each time. It all began with a community clean up known as 'Keep McAllen Beautiful' as we got there everyone seemed excited to be there. It was beautiful to see such unity inside of my community, and I decided from then on that I would like continue helping out where it is needed. As I joined the National Honor Society my chances of providing my services increased, and I decided that I would assume a position of leadership when needed. I became the society's president, which allowed me to develop my time management skills, creativity, and efficiency. I organized an fundraiser for the hurricane Harvey disaster victims where all
I volunteered at the Gonzales City volleyball clinic where I assisted the head coach by helping the young volleyball players learn how to set, serve, hit, and bump. I did this three times a week for three hours each day. The clinic consisted of children from ages 7-14 and each age group went in at different times. Also, I did community service at my local St. Theodore Church by helping in the jumping house at the church carnival. For the past four seasons I helped fundraise at the high school football games by selling food at the stadium snack bar. In every home football game I would stay for more than half of the game in the snack
I did my community service at Dr. Porter and Clark in Flat Rock during November 2016. They were doing their annual food drive for families that couldn’t afford thanksgiving in neighboring cities. The food drive needed help dividing up food for the families and organizing/making the drive route. I chosed this service because as someone who actively uses food banks on month to month basis, even week to week sometimes it's nice to give
My community involvement began as a Watermelon Princess candidate when I was in elementary school. Since then I have become involved in many different activities. I am in 4-H and we have done several contributions to the community. Every year the Freetown Leprechauns 4-H club makes Christmas ornaments for the nursing home. We go caroling at Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown and give each patient an ornament. I absolutely love doing this every year. The elderly people love to hear us sing and their faces light up every time. They even request songs for us to sing sometimes. The Freetown Leprechauns have also taken up canned goods for the
Moreover, I often volunteer to do service in my community. I have been doing volunteer work for Walk for Hunger since from 2011. Also I participate many times in school food bank, which school donates food to families who need help. It was a wonderful experience because I was able to help out my community in a positive way. I like to be there for people who are in need because it shows people that I am a caring and loving them.
This past summer I participated in Camp Holy Cross where I donated my time ad counseled kids from eight to three each day. I worked in the field thus I had to set up games, instruct them and take care of the kids while they were there. Another event I participated in with my church was the soup kitchen. This is where members of the Church’s youth group get together and put on a dinner. I also participated in the crop walk. This is where we collect donations to fight hunger and then walk six miles around Dalton. Therefore my community service shows how I give back, and another reason why I should be
I have contributed greatly to my community through volunteering at the Riverview Community Gardens, the Christus Church youth mission trip, Nordic Mountain, and the G2 Youth Group. At the Riverview Community Gardens I have volunteered for approximately 32 hours. I have helped plant, harvest, and clean vegetables that have later been used for selling. Also, I spent around 40 hours in New Orleans on the Christus Church mission trip. We helped rebuild the damaged homes from Hurricane Katrina.
I am a member of National Honor Society. We volunteer and help people in anyway we can. So far I have about 20 hrs of community service. I helped my teacher moved everything in his class during the summer. I helped an old woman raked leaves in her backyard. I volunteered to assist my high school's registration. I lend a hand to elementary school children and basically played and watched them. I assisted a youth wrestling tournament. There are many more services in which I hoped to help out.
I do quite a vast amount of community service because I enjoy it. Last year I did some community service for the school bond, but also did tons of work for the North West Washington Fair, building and putting together the Small Animal Experience. The Small Animal Experience is place for families to see a variety of animals in a clean safe environment. Our goal last year was to make a better entrance and to make it more enjoyable for the visitors.
For my community service, I have been going to Lyndon B. Johnson Head Start Program, or LBJ. At LBJ, it is my responsibility to look after children and clean up after them. The teachers there set up many activities for the kids to work on, most of the time they finger paint. The teachers also set up small field trips. For example, we once went on a field trip to a house that had set up a pumpkin patch and many other activities for the kids. The house we went to wasn’t very far from LBJ. The children had so much fun choosing a pumpkin and playing different games, and I had fun helping them and taking care of them.
My most defining community service activity is my volunteer work at Kaiser Permanente. One time when I was escorting a disabled patient to the pharmacy, I chose to stay past my shift and take a detour to the cafeteria to help her purchase lunch as she did not have spare time throughout the day to eat. Being the only two people in the cafeteria, I wheeled her around, assisting her in ordering her food and carrying her meal. As she graciously thanked me for being patient with her, the expression on her face showed genuine appreciation for my action which filled me with satisfaction from my selfless deeds.
During my eighth grade year at Blessed Sacrament, a local Catholic grade school, I was first introduced to the idea of community service. Then, it was presented to me as a requirement as I needed to give back to my community at least ten hours each quarter, or a total of forty hours to graduate. Both my grandparents and parents have gone out of their way to complete community service as well, and being a witness to their selflessness and learning from them the value of seeking to assist those who need it has inspired me to strive to help others as well. While community service could consist of cleaning up a park or simply giving to a charity, its true beauty lies in helping others. My introduction to community service and working to help others from such a young age has truly inspired me to maintain a lifestyle where I have the ability to help others in any way I can. My involvement in community service, dedication to my family values and desire to become a biomedical engineer while different, all are derived from my main goal in life, helping others.
The most personally impactful of my community service has been the work I have done to benefit those with intellectual disabilities, and special-needs. Some of my involvement includes coordinating and volunteering for the annual Kids with Disabilities Fishing Day event in my hometown, raising funds
For the majority of my community service hours I spent time at my church, First Baptist Church of Bascom, weekly helping make meals and serve them to people in the community. The meals were open to everyone, but was specifically based towards the people who were in need of a meal or was not able provide a home cooked meal to their family or themselves. This issue is becoming larger and larger in this community. Because of the economy people are losing their jobs or even receiving a pay cut from a salary that they were already struggling on. It is nice to know what people will at least get one good meal a week. Not only were we able to serve meals we were also able to fellowship and be a friend to talk to that they might not have. It is very
