As a student that watched and read the Christmas Carol, I prefer the play more than the text. First of all, it helped me visualize the characters and scenes better. But also, some of the characters didn’t meet the descriptions that the text gave. Most of the time in the play there was more physical and visual emotion. There was a big result of singing in the play that didn’t fit in a small handful of scenes. The play was obviously shorter that the text which is good if you don’t reading. My favorite thing about the text was that stage gave you a nice description on the characters and told what the characters actions were. The text didn’t give you exactly what you expected such as; characters, scenes, actions, and visual pictures in your head.
The written version and movie of “A Christmas Carol” are also very different. One way that they are different is that the book provides more description and detail then the movie does.
Twas the night before Christmas, two creatures on trial, one who is cheap, and the other who is vile. The Grinch from Dr. Seuss’s, How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Ebenezer Scrooge from Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol are head to head against each other to be the meanest this Christmas. The Grinch is a putrid green monster who lives up in a deep, dark cave, hating all cheer. Scrooge is a miser who hates all human life and never buys anything that’s not cheap. The Grinch is meaner because he goes down to Whoville, rips everything with holiday cheer away from the poor Whos, and doesn’t even care, he just smiles with hatred to Christmas. He does all this just for the fun of it.
Christmas is one of the most magical times of the year, for me, and the many stage and film versions of Dickens’ masterpiece offer many opportunities to experience the joy and revelation of A Christmas Carol. Pick from Alastair Sims version, Patrick Stewart, Bill Murray’s Scrooged, The Muppets and the 3-D masterpiece with Jim Carrey, just to name a few. It’s safe to say it is a very popular show done an infinite number of different ways. That is why as a director I would create a contemporary staging of A Christmas Carol in New York City. Now, at first glance this may seem unoriginal, but for me it is a perfect setting to honor the story in its original form.
Charles wrote A Christmas Carol in 1843. This short novel has a Christmas theme and has been popular since it was first published. This moral story is about an old man called Scrooge who hates Christmas and is mean to everyone, but he is transformed. The lessons he learns are as much for the reader to benefit from as Scrooge.
I felt that the movie of “A Christmas Carol” was very well performed and presented and that is why I believe the film version was better. Although the film version and the written version were very much alike they also were different. The film version was a lot differently set up and had a higher effect on the viewer than the written version. The film and the written version of “A Christmas Carol” were very much alike, but had some differences.
There are some people who don’t have it easy at all. They don’t have parents who will take care of them, but some have friends who care about them enough that they will help them. As details in A Christmas Carol, Thank You M’am, A Retrieved Reformation, show, significant changes in someone’s life can be caused by regret, kindness, and not judging people, . In a Christmas Carol Scrooge showed a lot of change between the beginning and end of the story.
Chains composed of links forged from sin, sorrow and seclusion are Ebenezer Scrooge's awaiting fate, unless he can put his pride behind him to gain forgiveness from those he hurt...before it’s too late. Scrooge believes that man's business is to make money, which opposes Dickens teachings, in his book A Christmas Carol. In A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens shows that one’s business in life is to commit to charity and helping others, through what Scrooge learns from the Three Spirits’ lessons.
Some of these may be very scary and some may only be mildly scary. It
When people want to watch a movie that is based on a book, they usually read the book first. Well, why on earth do they do that? Well, see sometimes even though they have the same plot, sometimes things can be changed. Whether it being for entertainment purposes, or to make the film shorter or longer, things usually will be changed when creating a movie inspired by a book. People probably have a few titles come to mind when they think about this, but a good example is “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens and the movie “A Christmas Carol” by Jim Carrey. Though both forms of literature are based off of the same plot, they do have their fair share of differences and similarities like any other adaption to a book. An example of this would be
"A Christmas Carol" a famous christmas movie. Although it isn't hard to believe that people do not realize that there are differences between the movie and the book. In this case, that fits right into that subject. Here are some of the differences between the movie and the novel.
The Grinch Who stole Christmas has been a hit movie for decades. It started off as a book and was made into a cartoon and a movie. While the book and the movie have some differences the fact that the grinch is known to hate Christmas, he steals the presents from everyone and the setting is the same in both the book and the movie make them somewhat similar. The first similarity between the book and the movie is that the Grinch has been known to hate Christmas. The book states, “ The Grinch hated Christmas! The whole Christmas season!” This is similar to the movie because in the movie the Grinch hates Christmas. When he was in school he was bullied around Christmas and he now hates all the Christmas activities.
“[He] was dead, to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that…[he] was dead as a door-nail….[of that] there is no doubt. This must be distinctly understood, or nothing wonderful can come of the story I am going to relate.”
The movie “A Christmas Carol” is better than the book. The book is a very descriptive christmas novel. The movie shows more feeling than the book did. The setting and lighting has set a better mood overall than the book.this is why the movie is better than the book.
The novel and drama versions of A Christmas Carol wouldn't be the best choice for students, proving that the graphic novel would be the best option because of how it is worded and because there are pictures. The novel version of A Christmas Carol is written in old English that may confuse students. As it states in the novel, "Are these the shadows of the things that will be, or are they the shadows of the things that may be only?"(Dickens, lines 8-9) Students might not be able to understand the language and that is how most of the novel is written. Some people may ague that the teacher could discuss some parts of the story with the class, but maybe the student is reading the book at home, there is no one to help them. The graphic novel would
“ Spirit, hear me. I am not he man I was. I will not be the man I have been for so many years. Why show me all of this if I am past all hope? Assure me that I yet may change these shadows you have shown me. Let the boy live! I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The spirits of all three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach.” (Scrooge, p.140). A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is an important story as it has a meaningful theme of change, as the quotes states above. But that isn’t the only theme that this beautiful story shows us. Many different spirits encounter him to help him realize why Christmas is important (I’m pretty sure that is the meaning of the spirits). When the first spirit of the past encounters him, he realizes what he has done, and regrets some of the things he did. The second spirit helped Ebenezer Scrooge recognize how what he has been doing has had an impact in other peoples life. When the frightening third spirit came and showed him his future and others futures, he discovers about himself and how people didn’t care that he died. When we read A Christmas Carol, we learn that it can have many different themes that can be a very important component to the story and even our lives.
