Compare/Contrast Essay

Among the many great debates that have passed down through the centuries, there is one that has yet to be given a clear answer or voice; yes, my fellow nerds, I am talking about the great battle of the fandoms. While there are those who think Captain Picard would be no match for Darth Vader, it is finally time to shed some light on the situation; it is time for Star Wars versus Star Trek. I enjoy both universes equally, but I believe that in a fight Star Trek would win against Star Wars. First, we will delve into the social atmosphere of both universes; since I am a trekkie from years of absorbing my mother’s obsession, I’ll list off their advantages and disadvantages first. In

It has been shown and explained that the sensor technology in the Star Trek universe can observe specific organisms, and their cellular chemistry, on a planet from orbit. Their sensors, installed on just about every ship with warp capabilities in the Star Trek universe, can even read DNA from orbit or track particles of interstellar hydrogen trillions of kilometers away; by contrast, one of the most advanced ships in the Empire’s fleet, the Star Destroyer, can’t even discern two droids in a pod with no shields. One could essentially hide from an Empire vessel just by landing on it. Ships like the Star Destroyer are also at a crippling disadvantage range-wise. Even most smaller vessels from Star Trek can successfully track or lock onto targets hundreds of thousands of kilometers away within the depths of space, whereas almost all combat happens at visual range between ships in Star Wars, and with an alarming miss rate. Speaking of combat capabilities, the Photon torpedoes of Star Trek travel at warp speed; they are unavoidable by vessels such as the Star Destroyer or even the Millennium Falcon, as their reaction time is only as good as the pilots within. It would be entirely feasible for a Star Trek ship to blow up the shields of Star Destroyers from farther ranges than the Star Wars vessel could even detect. Star Destroyers, in contrast, use turbolaser technology. Their lasers are not merely …show more content…
Empire-era ships are capable of traveling hundreds of thousands, or even millions of times the speed of light; compared to Federation-era ships, which max out at Warp 9.985, the Empire clearly has the Federation beat. However, not many people think to question the maneuverability of either universe’s ships. While most ships in Star Wars are faster at interstellar travel, hyperdrive propulsion occurs by diverting vessels into the sub-dimension of Hyperspace. While it may be faster than flying at normal speeds through space, Hyperspace is essentially a spacial slide. The Empire’s ships cannot maneuver while using hyperdrive; to make course corrections, they first would have to exit hyperspace, recalculate their course trajectory, and then re-engage hyperdrive. Therefore, the Empire would be unable to engage in combat maneuvers at velocities faster than light, and would be sitting ducks while adjusting their course. Federation vessels on the other hand, are capable of maneuvers at warp speed. Just as important, if not moreso, their weaponry is capable of being deployed and traveling at warp speed as
Star Trek continues to be a cultural phenomenon because of the timeliness of the philosophies it strives to incorporate in its narratives. Furthermore, the series and its creator, Gene Roddenberry, advocate the core natures of humanity: its innate goodness, the beauty in its diversity, and its curiosity. These advocacies continue to enlighten a new generation of viewers and engender principles of embracing difference and transcending the present to achieve
So why is Star Wars better than Star Trek? Well one is the storyline; of course, that’s the main part of their core. Their storyline makes them what they are. Star Trek has a open story and wide universe,
On a more superficial level, the fact that the novel has been deemed as "science fiction" opens it up to a
Star Wars is series of the fantastic films that depict the political tensions and wars among the representatives of different planets in the distant galaxy. The films include a number of positive heroes and charismatic anti-heroes, such as Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker) and Kylo Ren (Ben Solo). Both personages have a number of similarities and can be described as the typical Byronic characters. Highly ambitious Anakin Skywalker, who was expected to become a powerful Jedi, has joined the dark side and become a villain. Being inspired by the example of Darth Vader, the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa has decided to follow the path of his grandfather.

Harry James Potter is 11 years old when his story is first told. Luke Skywalker is 19 years old when his story is first told. Two iconic fantasy and science-fiction protagonists. Everybody knows that all stories have some sort of structure - there’s an introduction, a problem, multiple story arcs, and much, much more, however, the Harry Potter series and the Star Wars series are extremely similar, especially since the sad truth is that Luke’s and Harry’s stories that aren’t so unique after all.
Star Wars versus Star Trek. Marvel versus DC. Gandalf versus Dumbledore. Batman versus Superman. Almost everyone that could be asked could pick a side on these topics and their even smaller debated parts: Jedi versus Sith, Captain Kirk versus Captain Piccard, etc. Superhero movies are almost always a hit every year for the summer box office. Except superheroes were not always everyone 's favorite, nor socially accepted in America. This was originally subject matter that stayed within the confines of a certain social class, the nerds and geeks. Nerd culture rose within mainstream culture and media through a staunch refusal to be put to the side and belittled when it did hit big. It has stayed largely and long enough so that most people will tell you that superheroes and space pilots and "all culture is nerd culture now." (Rosenberg, Alyssa)
Both of these universes have become very popular through movies, television shows, videogames, and books. Star Trek has been around since 1964. It has had twelve movies with another coming out in 2016 and several TV series. Star Wars has been around since 1983 and has only six movies with another coming out later this year. It has three cartoon TV series and several books that continue the story after the sixth movie. Star Wars has had better videogames than Star Trek and always

Examples are a mode that was basically survive as long as possible which was completely unorthodox as it was something that could’ve been standard. Also

While we're still miles away from building space ships capable of intergalactic travel, there is at least one part of the puzzle that seems to grow ever more accessible with each passing year.
