Most sports require one to be in shape; however, not in all cases. Paintball is one of the exceptions. Compared to the sport of football or soccer, where it takes years to become professional, amateurs can play recreationally without much training because the sport of paintball is relatively easy to understand. There are various versions of paintball; however, the basic objective underlies shooting each player of the opposing team using a marking device, much like the concept of laser tag. Although constantly training is advantageous in the sport of paintball, it is not necessary to be fit. One can simply sit at the starting base while supporting one’s team by communicating with them. This all intrigued me, therefore, I decided to dig deeper on how to become an excellent paintball player by narrowing it down to fundamental skills, strategies and tactics, and equipment choices. I was originally interested in paintball because my brother attended several paintball tournaments both locally and nationally and I thought that the opportunity to travel to these events was incredible. I found this sport significant because it has the ability to bring me once in a lifetime opportunities as well as overall health and fitness maintenance with an athletic hobby. I liked to believe paintball was not only a competitive sport, but also a source for survival tactics. I have been playing for the last three years and I was able to accumulate enough experience to know what to do and what not to. However, I questioned how I could enhance myself each time I set foot on the field. These questions include: how can I improve my aim? Bunkers are positions that shield one from the opposing team’s fire. The most common name for bunkers in the shape of a triangular prism is Dorito. Dorito bunkers are typically lined up on one side of the field whereas a stream of very low bunkers is lined up on the other side of the field, which is referred to as snake. Each Dorito and snake bunker has notches in which each time an opponent physically moves up a notch towards one’s team, a number follows that specific notch. Examples of these call-outs are “Dorito two” and “snake one.” Typically, a field has six big bunkers placed at the left and right corners as well as at the back middle on each side of the field. These are sometimes called Alpha, Bravo, Charlie when naming them left to right. The last primarily known position is called Center 50 in which there is an opponent directly in the center of the field who has the ability to be a threat. Although there are many other bunkers scattered haphazardly throughout the field, they do not have a commonly used bunker name. Other terms include snap shooting (which was mentioned previously), laning/lane, bunkering, and run-and-gun. Laning is when a player shoots a constant stream of paintballs in the direction of an opponent to hit the player when he or she moves to another position.
