Manipulative. Fearsome. Spiteful. These are three characteristics one associates with the White Witch, who is a character from C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. She is said to be part giantess while also being a descendant from Adam’s first wife Lilith. She is an evil witch who has named herself the Queen of Narnia although she is not the true queen at all as she is not even from Narnia but another land. Because of this she is shown to have magic that other inhabitants do not have which she used to help name herself queen. The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is set in England during the 1940’s. During this time World War II was happening, and the air raids in London. During this time England was already in war and was suffering due to all the lives lost so far in the the war. Germany in 1940 and 1941 would blitz England without warning, Blitz is a German word meaning ‘lightning war.’ Not only were air raids happening but we're dealing with problems within their country. They were dealing with rationing, and still trying to get back on their feet from the Great Depression.

Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy go to live with at an old house with a professor because of fires in London. One day, Lucy curiously opens up the wardrobe and finds a secret world called Narnia. Hesitant at first, her siblings join her, and they go on a great journey that ultimately results in them being the queens and kings of Narnia.
To read a story is one thing, to break a story down to the building blocks and search for the hidden meaning the author sewed into his work is completely different. The specific type of work we are looking at during this paper is quest literature, to be more specific we are looking at breaking down this quest literature work to fill in the the seven archetypes of Joseph Campbell 's “ The Hero 's journey”. In C.S.Lewis’s work The Lion The Witch and the Wardrobe he manages to use all seven archetypes and while they are not all clearly defined when you break the text apart you can see that more than one character can fill in for some archetypes. An example of how fearsome the witch can be is how Mr. Beaver had to sneak around while gathering the children because some of the trees were on her side. It seems she will never end her cycle of viciously, violently, and ruthlessly spreading her fear across Narnia. As shown by how she turns those who defy her into stone. It appears as if the inhabitants of Narnia will not stand for it much longer, as there seems to be a plan to put an end to her reign once and for all. Which is as evidently fearsome as she is, the witch strikes fear into the heart of almost everyone she meets.

During the early developments of America, multiple states instituted the practice of owning African-Americans and using them as slaves. Surprisingly, this form of slavery was not only present in the Southern states, but also in the Northern too. Plantation owners from all over found their use in owning slaves, and were even shown taking advantage of the practice. By having ownership of slaves, it often contributed in farming production on plantations and also became useful when it came to voting. Unfortunately, though, the practice was abused by many plantation owners. When looking back at the many accounts written at the time, there seems to be a pattern of how the slaves were treated. Furthermore, the accounts additionally revealed problems that not only existed in the south, but also in the north too. Therefore, by using an account of a traveler visiting America and a plantation owner who owned slaves, it’s able to understood on how the slaves were actually treated within society. These two sources not only reveal a problem amongst the owners, but also reveal a side of the North that many did not know.
