“You are a product of your environment. So choose the environment that will best develop you toward your objective.” (Stone, 1962) The words stated prior by William Clement Stone have never proved to be more accurate. A person’s place of living, whether chosen, suggested, or forced, has a great affect on their future years to come. Depending on a person’s environment, they can succeed or fail; linger around or progress. The further proceedings do not serve the purpose to “knock” or bring shame or favor to one geographical area. Though every state has its pros and cons, one may highly favor one state over the other. In my case, I fancy Texas over Maryland. Texas is one of few states that are known for their delicious bar-b-que and food in general. I love the juicy ribs dripping in bbq sauce with a side of a loaded baked potato, honey baked beans and coleslaw. Nevertheless, when I moved to Maryland, all I could find was imitation Texas bbq restaurants. To this day, ten years after moving to Maryland, I have yet to know what food Maryland is known for; I was told crabs. I truly despise eating crabs because it takes to much effort. Why would anyone want to have to crack the crab leg, separate the shells from the meat repeatedly? When I’m hungry, I don’t want to have to constantly crack crab legs constantly and still be hungry afterwards. With that being said, we will now draw our attention to the offering of such delicious food; hospitality. Have you ever watched a television episode of a series in which a newlywed couple or family moves into a new neighborhood and unexpectedly the doorbell rings and it’s one of the neighbors smiling ear to ear while holding a scrumptious looking homemade cake? Guess what. This is actually done in reality in Texas! Just a little something we like to call “southern hospitality”. Southern hospitality includes, but is not limited to welcoming newcomers, holding doors for women, and cooking enough food for guests that may be around at mealtime (thou not invited).
