In today’s society, racing has become a very popular sport. Whether going to the racing events in various destinations or tuning in on the television, many people support it. There are many different types of racing, however the more popular types are NASCAR and Formula One racing. These two racing styles share a common goal, and that is to cross the finish line in first place. Even with this common goal there are many differences between the two. The culture, rules and regulations, and the races. Formula One racing originated from overseas in Europe, and has now spread to many other countries including Australia, Asia, and South America. Its culture is more classy and elegant. Most of the people involved in Formula One racing are successful and …show more content…
NASCAR has forty-three drivers that race in the events. In Formula One, there are only twenty drivers. The number of races in a NASCAR season is thirty-six, in contrast to Formula One which has only 17 races in a season. Another major difference between the two is the design of the cars. NASCAR vehicles are front-engine stock cars. These cars are heavy, and the weight can help keep the car on the pavement. The design of NASCAR vehicles are also traditional and relatively simple. These stock cars are not very technologically advanced. Formula One vehicles are mid-engine cars, and are very lightweight. Formula One cars only weigh around one-thousand pounds. These Formula One cars are built using advanced technology that makes them aerodynamic to provide more speed while going around the track. The racing tracks differ as well. NASCAR tracks are oval shaped speedways, and Formula One tracks are circuits and are constructed in various designs. Considering NASCAR tracks are oval, the drivers are only turning left. In Formula One, the drivers have to be more cautious to be able to turn left and right around corners, moving at such high
Some say that these races begun to take flight when William France Sr., a mechanic that also raced stock cars, began to create a formal sanctioning institution, regulatory rules, schedule, and a coordinated championship. He began to talk with other prominent races, and they left with the creation of NASCAR on February 21, 1948 (NASCAR). But, the beginnings of this amusing hobby, and now sport, has origins all the way back to the moonshining folk of the backwoods.
Other than the cars themselves, the three series have other comparable factors, such as their backstories. Each Motorsports division started in different regions. They were each started by different individuals or groups of people. According to NASCAR’s website, the sport became more popular after the end of the second World War. In 1947, Bill France formed the first branch of NASCAR or the modern “Monster Energy Series”. Later, in the year 1982, members of NASCAR made a new series, which was given the name the “Late Model Sportsman Division,” which later became the “XFINITY Series.” There is also a third series, the “Craftsman Truck Series,” or the “Camping World Truck Series” that was formed, which uses trucks instead of cars. The NASCAR website explains how the sport started and how it expanded with the two additional series that it added. When the sport started, there was no organization. However, as time went on, and because of men like Bill France, NASCAR became an organized and popular sport. “Founded in 1994, INDYCAR serves as the sanctioning body for the Verizon IndyCar Series... The engines in the racecars of NASCAR are way more different. They have more horsepower, more torque, and a lot more power. According to popularmechanics.com, the engines in Nascar Sprint Cup cars are 90-degree pushrod V8s, just like those that have powered many vehicles on American roads for more than 50 years. But today, the engine under Jimmie Johnson's hood is a custom-made 850-hp 358-cubic-inch thoroughbred that's optimized to run flat-out for no more than 1000 miles. See most street car engines have about 400 to 500 horsepower. Engines in NASCAR have different valve trains, engine blocks, and a different lubrication system. Those make the engines more powerful. The tires in NASCAR are also very different. For one thing, the tires are filled with nitrogen instead of air. That makes the tire wider, and much more harder to pop. They also have a treadless design on them so they get more grip on a dryer track. If they raced on wet tracks, the tires won’t get traction from the track and will spin out. That is why NASCAR stops the races if it rains. So even if the engines don’t really evolve, they still may run on them, but most teams make new engines before every
While you need lots of sponsors with lots of money. In dirt track racing you usually own your own car that you don’t have to spend a lot on because you can go whenever you feel like your sponsors don't make you race. It is also easier to find dirt tracks because of how many their are while nascar only have just over 100 dirt has over 700 and even more worldwide. Dirt track racing is more interesting because it has a lot more variety than nascar because each car is completely different but in nascar their all almost the same but in dirt their all completely different. Dirt track racing is a lot different and a lot more interesting than nascar.
Formula 1 is the top tier of racing. Formula 1 is the ultimate test of speed, endurance, and focus. Teams from all over the world come together to put their drivers and their cars to the test. Formula 1 had a television audience of 425 million people during the 2014 season. Formula 1 racing has not only been a sport for racing enthusiast but has also had a huge impact on automobile competition.
The history of Nascar starts way back in the day when moonshining was hitting the tipping point with all of the bootleggers buy cars and making them go faster, to get away from the police. Bootlegging started when the prohibition
“Covering a one-year period… one of every 500 Thoroughbred horse starts at North American racetracks results in a fatal injury… and about 800 deaths…” (The Horse Fund) Horse racing is a popular sporting event throughout the United States as well as the entire world. Since “the first millennium BC. the first formal race took place in Greece.” (Funk and Wagnalls 6). Horse racing is a “contest of speed between two or more horses, usually Thoroughbreds, which are ridden over a special course… horse racing is one of the most highly organized and commercialized sports.” (Funk and Wagnalls 1) There are many types of horse racing, but flat racing is the most popular type of race that everyone watches. The most known racing event in the United States is the Kentucky Derby, which is broadcasted and watched by thousands of people on the first Saturday of May. The Kentucky Derby is known for the betting that happens to see what horse is going to win that years race. There is also the focus on the outrageous hats that women wear on the day of the event. Though the events such as the Kentucky Derby sounds
People have been racing cars for just over 100 years, but in 1947 NASCAR was formed (“Birth” 1). Stock car racing was super hot with muscle cars the full size performance cars. The Olds 88 dominated the stock car circuit (“Birth” 1). Ford Galaxies, also hot on the track, they were considered the 1964 all around champion (“Goldenage” 4). NASCAR was the roots of hotrods and muscle cars because it provided the means to race cars legally ands safely (“Muscle Cars” 1).
The regional racing series should consist of people who are interested in getting into the racing industry as a driver. The series should be called The Road to NASCAR. The races should be held in the capital of each state, and should coincide with big time races such as Bristol. The idea behind the capital of each state is the fact this this will generally be the largest population for each state and therefore the largest possible number of people to be marketed to. Many companies would be interested in sponsorship opportunities such as car repair centers, car dealerships, and fundraising efforts for causes such as cancer. The regional series should give the winner and runners up a chance to learn from one of the top drivers. If there is a
The typical Indycar fan differs from other motorsports fan because of the difference in marketing and the sponsorship of both sports. In regards to NASCAR reaching levels of popularity in the United States, the sponsors and audience devoted to this sport outnumbers Indycar (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014). NASCAR has worked on expanding the brand and reaching different regions throughout the United States. The fact that NASCAR was able to work out a substantial contract with Fox and ESPN, Indycar has not been able to reach the same level of success.
There’s definitely a big risk, but it comes with an equally as big pay and recognition. 10. First, the fame, everyone (in America) has surely heard of Jeff Gordon or Dale Earnhardt Jr. these are people who are the best of the best in their sport and have the skills to prove it, (Shmoop.com). Then, internationally names like Nico Rosberg or Ken Block can be appreciated. 13. Secondly, the fortune, well as with any field, racing salaries are vastly different. Beginners might bring home 150 to 300 thousand, but the best get paid up to 30 million a year, (Allaboutcareers.com). 12. Third, the family, this can vary from person to person. For example, your wife/husband needs to understand the risk involved and, be willing to work with the ever-changing schedules. Though if you could get past those two things, racing would be a really entertaining career for your spouse to
Pixar created a virtual world of toys by creating Toy Story and later created a virtual world of cars through the box office hit Cars. Lightening McQueen is a showstopper for sure but he is not just one of the main characters or should I say cars that make this an enjoyable movie people both alike and different would watch countless times. The story line is Lightening McQueen’s journey along the way of winning a Piston Cup. Although all of these movie posters of Pixar’s animated movie Cars come from the same movie, these examples show that publishing companies use various scenes, characters and taglines to appeal to different
Formula one is the fastest racing car in the world. It is called the greatest car show in the world. Formula one has a great influence on the people. Millions of people sit in front of the TV set or around the circuit and watch the race. The drivers are often called kings of speed and they show their ability to drive fast every second week of the season.
“Driving in circles” is often one of the first things that comes to mind when someone hears the word racecar driver. However, “driving in circles” is nowhere near a complete explanation of what a racecar driver can do. Most people know racecar drivers drive with the purpose of going fast. Their goal when driving a racecar is to get from point A to point B as fast as possible. They drive endless loops of a racing circuit to improve previous lap times by milliseconds, just to say they were the fastest. This is something that few understand, and racecar drivers have difficulty explaining why this is their passion to others. It’s almost as if they are looking into a different boxcar than others. Sometimes when people think of a racecar driver, they think, “Can’t anyone drive a car?” or “Oh driving in circles like NASCAR? That must be easy.” These answers couldn’t be farther from the reality, and it’s astonishing how unknown the world of auto racing is to many people. Racing is not just driving per se. Racing is the art of driving fast with a bunch of other like-minded idiots, who all risk their lives with the, widely misunderstood, willingness to endanger their life just to say they beat the other guy. Racing and racecar drivers are entirely different from driving on the street in a countless number of ways.
Formula racing is a term that refers to various forms of open wheeled single seater motorsport. Its origin lies in the nomenclature that was adopted by theFIA for all of its post-World War II single seater regulations, or formulae. The best known of these formulæ are Formula One, Formula Two, and Formula Three. Common usage of "formula racing" encompasses other single seater series, including the GP2 Series, which replaced Formula 3000 (which had itself been the effective replacement for Formula Two).
