Comparing The Religions Of Judaism, Islam, And Christianity

The three most practiced monotheistic religions- Christianity, Judaism, and Islam- share a belief in one singular God. Each have many similarities -like believing in one God and following sacred texts- as well as differences, such as different holidays and rituals. Although these three religions share similarities, there are more differences between them. Christianity is a religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ through the holy book called the Bible.

How are they connected? They all share a common belief that there is a God. They also share a belief the Old Testament. They believe in an afterlife and all three religions have a Holy Book. They all believe that Abraham was the first prophet and because of that they are called Abrahamic religions.

Judaism originated close to four thousand years ago in the region of Canaan. It’s heritage traces back to God giving his commandments to Moses on Mt. Sinai. Judaism is based off of the Torah-the Jewish holy book. The Star of David, also known as Shield of David, represents Judaism. In Judaism, women are separate but equal; they believe that women are equal to men, as it states in the Torah, but women aren’t allowed to do the same jobs as men. As for the demographics of Judaism, 13.3 million people in the world are Jewish and the majority of them live in Diaspora. Yom Kippur is the most sacred day of Judaism; in this holiday, Jews fast, pray and repent for 25 hours. Along with Yom Kippur; Chanukkah and the start of Passover are also important in the Jewish holidays. Judaism is similar to Christianity and Islam as they only believe in one God, and Jesus’ crucifixion. Judaism and Islam are strictly monotheistic. Unlike Christianity and Islam, Judaism believes that God has divine revelation and forgiveness. They call their God Yahwen.

Christianity, Judaism, and Islam all have similar origins, development, beliefs, and sacred texts. Contrary to popular belief all three of these religions share more common ground than one would think. The differences are present of course, but the similarities help one understand where all three were derived from and why. All of the religions share the common ground as to the knowledge of Jesus Christ, the belief of monotheism, and “ethical standards required social justice for individuals and for the community” (144). Judaism is the oldest religion out of the three, then falls Christianity, and lastly Islam.

Many of these religions follow a God, or gods. Judaism for example revolves around one God. In document 1, in an excerpt from the book of Exodus, it shows a list of ten rules or, commandments. Number 1 on this list says “I am the Lord your God.” Judaism popped up around 1000 BCE in Mesopotamia. It has very strong ties and resemblances to another major world religion, Islam. This isn’t the only religion that believes in gods. One of the earliest major religions, Zoroastrianism, originating in persia in 6th century BCE, believes that life began with twin spirits, one was the good, one was the evil. They established Life, and non-life. In document 1 and 7, it shows that both of the religions share commandments that its followers should live by. Both of these religions share many commonalities.

All three of these religions started off small and a long time ago. Judaism started a long time before the birth of Jesus Christ. Christianity started after the birth of Christ but was not really known about or taught until after Jerusalem was destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D. Islam was started later on but still a long time ago. It is thought to be started in 622 A.D. by a man known as Muhammad.

Between the religions of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism, there are many similarities and differences that are dealt within each of them. Throughout these religions, we can compare and contrast different aspects of each religion such as some of the basic facts of their histories and some of the religious beliefs each of them have in common and or make them different from each other. The three Abrahamic religions share not just the same Supreme Being but they also share several common themes. Many people view these three religions as separate entities but are more related than most people would expect.

Although Christianity, Islam and Judaism are all religions that grew from the same central idea of one divine god named Abraham in the general time zone of 2500 BC, and in the holy city of Jerusalem, they are all very different from each other. Christianity, Islam and Judaism are all similar religions in some ways but are also very different from each other in other ways.

Ever thought to yourself, “Why do people practice the Judaism, Christianity, and Islamic faith?” or, “What are the similarities and differences between Christianity, Islam, and Judaism?” Well Christianity, Islam and Judaism are all similar religions in some ways but are also very different from each other in other ways as well. Some things that are similar and different are the holy books, the symbol of faith, and the house of worship.

Human beings have always been curious about the meaning and purpose of life. Religions try to answer the curiosity people have about there being a higher source, typically identifying this greater domination as God. Some beliefs teach that there is only one G-d this is defined as a monotheistic religion. Some examples of monotheistic religions are Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Although each sect has a different perspective on teachings and beliefs they have one common thread; the belief in a singular deity.

Islam, a major world religion, founded in Arabia and based on the teachings of Muhammad, who is called the Prophet. One who practices Islam is a Muslim. Muslims follow the Koran, the written revelation brought by Muhammad. The Muslim world population is estimated at more than 1 billion. Islam is the quickest growing religion.

Judaism originated a very long time ago, it is a part of the Bronze Age Polytheistic Ancient Semitic religions. The Jewish calendar goes back more than 5000 years, most scholars date the beginning of the religion of the Israelites to the known founder, Abraham, whose life is generally dated around 2000 to 1800 B.C.E. Abraham came to believe that the universe was the works of a single creator, and taught this to other believers. Therefore, Judaism is the first recorded religion to advocate monotheism, meaning there is only one God. Both Christianity and Islam found some of their roots in Judaism, about 2,000 years after Abraham, Jesus was born into Judaism. Then after Jesus, Muhammad could trace his ancestry back to Abraham. Judaism has three essential parts the written Torah, the recognition of Israel, which are the descendants of Abraham, as uniquely holy people chosen by God, and also it is a requirement that Israel lives in accordance with God's laws as it’s said in the Torah.

Judaism was developed among the ancient Hebrews found in the Middle East. It is considered one of the oldest monotheistic religion. Judaism is told in the first five books of the Hebrew bible (Old Testament). They believe they have a covenant with one God. Jews trace their history back to Abraham but Judaism was found by Moses. Followers of Judaism, focus on the relationship between the land of Israel, mankind and the relationships between the Creator. There is no formal set of beliefs. Followers of Judaism, believe God chose them to set an example of ethical behavior and holiness. Jews keeps God’s laws in exchange for the many good things God has done for them. The first difference between the five religions is how they began, each one experienced some type of outside influence for its beginning. Judaism’s founding father was Abraham, who talked to God and was told by an angel that he would birth a promise son that would spring forth great nations and kings. Who was commanded by God to go to a land that he promised to give Abraham descendants. Judaism was developed from Abraham’s faith in God (Whiston p.34).
