Poseidon wants to claim the clouds in the skies to use to create more powerful and violent storms. However, Zeus gets very upset when he finds out that someone one else is using the clouds.
Zeus: It is in the sky Poseidon: it makes rain.
Zeus: Poseidon, As you cannot see I am the lord of the sky. I should own the clouds because they are in the sky.
Poseidon: Well Zeus, clouds rain water, showing that I should own the clouds.
Zeus: A fair point, but also I am the god of lightning and clouds can create powerful monstrous storms.
Poseidon: When it does storms, it usually rains a lot making me the god of choice to control the clouds.
Zeus: I can make the clouds posses great power and show the mortals who is there creator.
Poseidon: I can combine the

I think he has been cheating on you again.
Hera: AGAIN!!?? AND WHERE WOULD HE BE!?!?
Poseidon: I believe he is on a small island out in the middle of the ocean. This island is heavily forested.
Hera: Thank you for the help. NOW I NEED TO GO PUNISH THAT UNFAITHFUL COWARD. THIS IS THE TENTH DIFFERENT WOMAN THIS MONTH.
Poseidon: I hope you can work something out. Goodbye.
Hera: GOODBYE POSEIDON!
Hera leaves instantly in search of Zeus
Zeus: Who cares about Poseidon, I’ll mate with the water nymphs all I want. He doesn’t deserve to control the storm clouds anyway.
Zeus goes to a thick forest on an isolated island. Hera soon follows and starts to look for Zeus. Hera gets bored and leaves the forest. Zeus then pops out of a bush and mates with a water nymph Aaetha. However, Hera rushes back, but Zeus nowhere to be found, leaving Athena alone with Hera.
Hera: You! You were with Zeus. I knew it.
Aaetha: No, no, no... I will explain everything.
Hera: I shall curse you so that…
Aaetha: Noooo! Curse anybody else but me.
Hera: I then shall curse your friends, the ducks and the sea turtles, along with you. You will no longer be able to see color. You will no longer know when a storm is
Poseidon is a Greek god who was the god or ruler of the sea, horses, and earthquakes. The two Titans named Cronus and his sister Rhea where Poseidon's parents. The symbol of Poseidon and his favorite weapon was the mighty trident. Poseidon gained the power to rule the sea by drawing lots with Zeus and Hades after they defeated the Titans in order to rule Mount Olympus. Triton was one of three son's of Poseidon but his most famous ones of the three were Theseus and Bellerophon.
In Aristophanes the Clouds’, Socrates questions the role of the Gods in human’s everyday lives. Even though he explains to Strepsiades that clouds and rain are created by nature, not God, old Strepsiades misunderstands him and thinks Socrates is inventing new Gods. SOCRATES: “What Zeus! Don’t babble. Zeus doesn’t even exist.” (131). STREPSIADES “ And who is it that compels them to be borne along? Isn’t it Zeus?” (131). SOCRATES “Not in the least. It’s ethereal vortex. (131). STREPSIADES “ Vortex? I hadn’t noticed that Zeus doesn’t exist, and that instead of him Vortex is now King.” (131). Euthyphro believes that the traditional stories about the gods are true, unlike Socrates. “… why I am defendant against the indictments: that whenever someone says such things about the gods, I receive them somehow with annoyance…,” (47). Socrates explains to Euthyphro that if the Gods favor something, that alone does not make it pious. Socrates states he believes in “…sun and moon are the gods, as other human beings go. In Plato’s Apology of Socrates, Socrates says that the gods are considered the highest and most respected beings, and the citizens believe that they should follow the laws that were invented by the gods. With that he
First, Poseidon is the god of the sea, so he works well with water, and “he has a splendid palace beneath the sea.” (Hamilton 23) What I am saying is that if he get’s mad or something like that then he can just go to his palace so he will not hurt the animals if he is mad. When he is
Poseidon creates a fog causing them to meet a troublesome foe, by trapping them in the
Shadow - Zeus is the God of the sky and leader of the Olympians. He has an awful temper, so don’t get on his bad side. He controls the weather and everything in the sky. His symbol of power is a master
Depending on which god a person angered and their situation in life, this hostility could be deadly. For example, Poseidon was the god of the sea but he also had control over earthquakes (Moford, Lenardon, and Shan 171). Odysseus’ famous journey took place mostly on the sea, which put him at the very mercy of this powerful god. However, as controller of both earthquakes and ocean, Poseidon could harm almost any mortal, unless that mortal was aided by another god in the moment of the attack. Other gods possessed similar grand jurisdictions, such as Apollo, the god of the sun and medicine, Hera, goddess of the earth, Hestia, goddess of the hearth’s fire, and Zeus, the god of the sky, among others. Each of these figures reigns over equally important aspects in the life of mortals. Additionally, as most Greeks never met the goddess in myth or in history, the actions of their elements were an even greater sign of their mysterious
Zeus, his name is synonymous with Greek mythology and religion. God of the weather and sky he used his powers of wind, lightning, and thunder to uphold the law and keep order. He ruled Mount Olympus as well as the pantheon of gods who lived there. Watching over mankind he would punish those who defied him and help those who were wronged. However, Zeus did have his flaws. His quick tempered nature combined with his lust for women made him relatable to the common man. From his coming to power until the beginning of Christianity, this complex god would have no equal.
I chose to write about Zeus for my independent project. By the time my paper is written and finished, I can only hope to have discovered more and more information about him than at the beginning of this essay. Some things I do want to remember and learn about him are what made him so great, is he the Greek God’s leader, and what did he accomplish? When somebody speaks about Greek mythology, it seems as though everyone wants to talk about Zeus. Another thing that I hear very often when Zeus is mentioned is the fact that he controls/carries the lightning bolt. That is Zeus’s symbol. I have for a long while been itching to take in more about him yet never thought to consider his history until today.
Thousands of years ago, the ancient Greek civilization had a god for everything that they could have thought of. One such god was Poseidon. Poseidon was the god of the sea and horses (Gil). Symbols that represented Poseidon included the trident and dolphin(Gil). He became one of the most well known of the gods because of his fierce temper and his adulterous ways. Poseidon was also part of many battles, such as the Trojan Wars. (Poseidon: Greek) He also caused many hardships for Odysseus as he returned home from the war.(Gall 49). Poseidon was a lustful (Gall 48) being who showed signs of violence and was also known to hold fierce grudges against those who wronged him (Poseidon).
Zeus’ most significant and well known power was the ability to hold lightning bolts. He could throw them like a javelin at people or gods that did not please him or defied him. He had his winged horse Pegasus carry his lighting bolts and had his eagle pick them up after he threw them. That was not his only power however, Zeus had the ability to control the weather with his temper. When he was in a happy mood the skies would be
Who was Poseidon? “Poseidon was the Olympian god of the sea, earthquakes, floods, drought and horses.” He was officially one of the supreme gods of Mount Olympus along with his brothers Zeus
Poseidon is the ancient Greek god who resembles the power of the untamed, the brutal, and the wild. After the defeat of the Titans, Poseidon drew straws with his brothers and got the middle straw. Therefore, he became the lord of the Sea, earthquakes, and horses. The Romans knew Poseidon as Neptune. He is also associated with clouds, which was essential to agriculture. Poseidon could create springs, floods, and even tidal waves when angered. Besides the sea, Poseidon is also connected with the earth. It is believed that his anger is
The supreme ruler and king of gods, Zeus, is often mentioned as Jupiter and the sender of thunder, lightning, rain, and wind (Britannica.com). “Zeus was the first of the gods and a very imposing figure. Often referred to as ‘the father of gods and men,’ he is a sky god who controls lightning.” (Britannica.com) Although the god is labeled most powerful and the mightiest of all, he is not perfect. Zeus is known for his promiscuous action. Often times he fell in love with one woman after the other and attempted to disguise his infidelity from his wife. Zeus left no woman behind in his crazy love-life, the god married and had children with his sister, Hera and. Hera was not Zeus’ only siblings. He also had two brothers, Poseidon and Hades and another sister named Hestia. His parents are known as Cronus and Rhea. Zeus was not just handed the title “god of the sky,” instead him and his two brothers drew lots. The sea was given to Poseidon, the underworld to Hades, and Zeus was named lord of the sky, rain god, and cloud gatherer. The eagle is considered sacred to this god. Zeus also treasures the oak tree. It is often told that the gods will was revealed by the rustling of the oak tree. (Hamilton 27)
Poseidon, Second in command behind Zeus, had no mercy on any mortal who tried to claim his waters. Poseidon’s background goes all the way back to the first twelve Olympians. Poseidon had many loves but one wife, making him the father of many kids. The role of Poseidon in the heavens was never specific all he had to do was control seas, oceans, rivers, Lakes and streams. When it came to his interaction with the earth and humans, he ruled the oceans and was feared on land. Greece being completely surrounded by water will always have remembrance of Poseidon, the god of the sea.
Poseidon is the most powerful god there is out of the twelve Olympians. Many people prefer to call him poseidon. But many roman people know him as Neptune or Neptunus, which are his roman name. Poseidon is the god of the seas, earthquakes, and horses. Poseidon was one of the supreme gods of Olympus, but he decided to spend most of his time in watery domains.(The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica). He is also the god of earthquakes. The reason he is the god of earthquakes is because the three top gods decided to show
