Josh, I appreciate the feedback. This speech was not my best work due to a combination of anxiety and Murphy’s Law. I have communication in any form of communication that is not face-to-face communication. I have severe anxiety when communicating in any other form. I pronounce words wrong and I have a strong accent that I would normally not have in everyday conversation. I really don’t know how to describe it. As far as sound/video quality is concerned I had a dedicated setup but my microphone decided to quit working. I have ordered two new microphones to avoid that problem in the future.
One of the hardest skills in communications, is creating a thoughtful and engaging speech that not only entertains, but informs the audience. In my opinion, I believe my informative speech about Overfishing was good, but not great. My organization, research, and rehearsal could have been much tighter and some details were overlooked in my excitement when trying to present.
I will look to the feedback and criticisms given in order to improve on my presentation and communication skills for the future.
Finally, one of the main aspects that could have used improvement would be the introduction. The attention getter was not as effective as I had hoped it would be. It didn’t seem to grab anybody’s attention so the speech was already off to a not so great start. While the main topics were introduced it could have been done more effectively instead of just listing of the three main topics. Also the thesis statement could have been more thought out with more information about my
The introduction & attention getter were complete but weren’t very engaging, which in my opinion was my speeches biggest flaw. My speech wasn’t one that as soon as you heard it you gave it your undivided because the importance of they topic in my opinion was very subjective. In my opinion the me employing a very loud, lively attention getter would’ve
One of the things I noticed in my speech was how many times I looked at the screen. I didn’t realize how many times I looked at my prop until I watched myself on video. It was distracting and took away from what I was saying to my audience. Additionally, I feel like I could have improved speaking about the different experiments performed. I feel like they were rushed and I should have stuck to talking about only one or two experiments instead. With my time being rushed, I feel like I couldn’t explain as much of the experiments as I wanted to or as in depth. Lastly, I should have worked on the conclusion for my speech. I wasn’t able to come up with a good conclusion, so it felt as if I left some of the speech left hanging. I mentioned ethical issues performed in the experiments without actually going over it in the speech. Next time, I know I will come up with a solid ending and just wrapping up ideas I already went over in class. I know that for my persuasive speech, I will work on my eye contact, slowing down, and coming up with a solid ending.
I really enjoyed watching the speech that you chose and reading your post. I watched a speech by Samuel Cohen about raising awareness of the devastating disease Alzheimer’s. I think that both of the speakers did a wonderful job in the delivery of their speech. When Samuel Cohen was giving his speech, he was very sober and wasn’t smiling. This is because it wasn’t a story that he should have been happy about telling about unlike the speaker Mandy Len Catron who gave a more upbeat speech. Both speakers used their hands appropriately when giving their speeches and had good use of visual aids to enhance their speeches and to get their points across. Both speeches were very different and I liked watching both of them because they both did a very
The test will be conducted at the 0.05 level of significance. The correlation coefficient indicates a relationship between hours of study and exam anxiety for the sample tested. The r-value of 0.5654 indicates a positive linear correlation. With a 0.05 alpha and a df of 8, the PPMC table gives a value of 0.632. The two-tailed is significant at the 0.05 level of significance and there is a positive correlation between the number of study hours and the anxiety scores of students.
Many people have anxiety. Anxiety disorders are the most common of all mental disorders. There are many different types of anxiety: Generalized, Panic, Social Phobia, Obsessive Compulsive, Post-Traumatic, and Acute Stress. When facing a problem like this, first, we must understand the repressed feeling. Any of these types of anxiety can destroy any thought of preforming an action properly, speaking in public, a deadline, or running into someone. These actions may seem simple, but have a major impact on a person. Experiences of anxiety can come in many ways. When trying to overcome anxiety, we need to decide the cause, when the origin is known, the preparation can begin. I chose to refurbish a AR-15, and to fire the
The speaker made direct eye contact at all times unless his head was moving to place emphasis on what he was saying. Further, the speaker spoke loud enough to be heard and did not require me to turn my volume up super high while struggling to hear him. Additionally, the speaker utilized a good pace. He moved slow enough for me to comprehend everything he was telling me but fast enough so that I did not get bored and distracted. Finally, the speaker alternated his pitch throughout the speech which kept my attention. Overall, besides the previously addressed issues, the delivery of the speech was great! I would, however, suggest having more time of the speech spent face to face with the speaker for a more powerful speech.
The presentation of the topic non-verbal communication was very informative and gave an insight on how one should present themselves during interviews or speeches. The seminar had two guest speakers who were, Peter Johnson, an attorney, and Superintendent Carraway. They both spoke on how non-verbal communication affected their jobs and some tips on public speaking. The two did a very good job on keeping the audience engaged and made it worth their while. There were some things that could have been improved upon, but overall was a good presentation.
All speeches are different and create and new and unique experiences. This informative created a different experience because this time I wasn’t talking about myself and my life. I was talking about something I had to research to know about it wasn’t something that I just knew off the top of my head like I did with my shield speech. The overall experience of giving this speech was completely different. I wasn’t nearly as confident in this speech, but I think it went fairly well. Everybody seemed to really enjoy my speech though. They seemed to find it interesting. The next speech I give I am going to try and make sure that I get a chance to practice more before I go so that I am more confident in my speech. Also so I have more of it memorized and don't have to use my notecards as much and so that I can just go through it and not go over on my time. Sometimes in the real world you'll have to share information in a speech manner. Like if you have to give a presentation at your job some day or in front of a committee of some
Even though this was our class’ first speech, not only did everyone bring exciting topics to discuss, but we were also able to effectively use the conventions of an informative speech. Not everything was perfect yet, as there are still some tweaks or improvements that can be made as we strive to better our public speaking skills. Taking a look at the speeches by Mariapia, Elizabeth, and Ashley I will evaluate their speeches for effective openings, notable transitions, and other achievements in their organization or delivery. In doing so, I will assess the success and potential shortcomings of each speaker in their informative speech, before reflecting on my own speech, in order for the speakers and myself to reflect on our public speaking skills
In regards to the piece that you Murphy’s Law, I felt that the title was appropriate to what you wrote about how your spring break odyssey turned out. The story described how the narrator and his friend Kristen decided to go and meet up with other friends Lana and Barney to Lake Havasu. The trip hits some bumps as they aren’t allowed to join a party because of its exorbitant cost but are then saved by meeting some other fellows that have the same troubles and proceed to use the their money to buy alcohol. The story turning point was when Barney was becoming out of control and Kristen and the narrorator become helpless as their phones and debit cards become useless leaving them at the mercy of a drunk and coke out Barney. The piece is a frank
Now one thing is clear that anxiety is before nothing and that makes it different from fear. it is different from fear because fear has an object. In the case of fear through definitive measures one can remove that particular object of fear but in case of anxiety in the case of angst, no such definitive measures are possible. Because there is no particular object to remove. We are free to choose and also responsible of our decision and have to face the consequences of that decision. No one is responsible for their action if something goes wrong. Although, it is not possible that every choice results dreadful beacause in that condition it is very difficult to make choices. However, it is a fact that freedom remains a condition of every action.
Kylee’s overall delivery was okay to me. She has some problems in her delivery when she delivered her speech. Her volume was good I guess, but I’m not so sure since this is a video and not a face-to-face experience. However, she has to work on her rate. She was going way to quickly through out her speech. She has a lot of useful information, but it was a little hard to for the information in sink. Kylee very needs to pause more, just to allow the audience sink in the information. The articulation was fine. The vocal variety was okay, but I would to hear it a bit in a conversation way. Kylee do not make that much eye contact, in fact all she did was do quick glances and not that much too. She relied on her cards a lot, telling me that she is not that familiar with her material and didn’t practice that much. Kylee have to learn to rely on her cards less and make more eye contact. Her body position was okay,
