Imagine being bullied every day of your life? Now imagine being the bully. Sounds terrible, right? While bullies can be different in so many ways, Draco and Julian are both bullies who actually have a lot in common, they both bully people to win the crowd. In the book Wonder, by R.J. Palacio Julian bullies Jack Will and Auggie. While in the Harry Potter series (books 4, 6 and 7) by J.K. Rowling Draco bullies Harry Potter. Draco and Julian don’t just bully people for fun though, and while it’s still not right they bully people because they’re pressured and because they want to impress people to become popular. Also they just simply think it’s fun. In the story Wonder Julian bullies Auggie by asking him if he likes Darth Sidious, a star wars
And boy will I tell you Julian deserved it. With all the stuff Julian puts Auggie through Julian deserved worse. On page 267 Amos stood up for Auggie by saying, “ Leave him alone dude.” It was really strange for Amos to do this since he was on Julian’s side for awhile.
Bullying is when a person or group frequently harms someone who is weaker or more vulnerable then themselves. They do this by means of physical, verbal, or mental abuse. Bullies can be male, female, young or old. The nature of a bully depends on many factors such as sex, age, and past experiences. Depending on the nature of the bully, their actions can have many negative effects on others. Bullies display many characteristics such as aggression, rivalry, and competitive behavior. Bullying occurs in many different places, a good example is in the novel The Lord of the Flies. Jack, the antagonist in this novel, displays many characteristics of a bully. Many children have been
One example of Julian bullying Auggie is when he kept putting mean notes in Auggie’s locker. I know that Julian is a bully because if he wasn’t a bully he might have actually been friends with Auggie. Another example of Julian bullying Auggie is when he was calling him names like a “freak” and he also started “the plague” just to be mean to Auggie. I know that Julian is a bully because he would not have started the plague or kept calling him a freak. This proves that Julian is a bully.
In the stories Wonder by R.J Palacio, and The Fight by Adam Bagdasarian, Adam from The Fight is similar to Julian in the book Wonder. and Julian are similar in many ways. Both of them have the same actions, their both powerful, and they our the same at school.
Before Auggie went to school, he didn’t want anyone to see his face because he was embarrassed by it. An example of this is shown in part one on Auggie’s first day of school, where he said, “I went straight to room 301 on the third floor. Now I was glad I’d gone on that little tour, because I knew exactly where to go and didn’t have to look up once.” This shows Auggie was very shy and ashamed of his face before he started school. In part six of Wonder, Auggie stated, ““Did you know the guy who created Ugly dolls based them on me.” Then she to Ellie and some of the other girls what I had just said, and they all thought it was funny, too.” This quote shows Auggie was becoming less shy and more outgoing, which created a positive impact on his
The theme of Wonder shows the reader to be loving and kind no matter how the person acts or looks. R.J. Palacio, the author of Wonder shows in the story that students at Beecher Prep, Auggie’s school make fun of him. According to the text they call him names such as by “rat boy, freak, monster, freddy krueger, E.T., gross-out, lizard face, and mutant.” This quote shows how hurtful names can be. They leave ugly and nasty notes in his locker. On the other hand, there are a few students that stand up for him and help him through the hard times. Two students, Jack and Julian got into a fist fight because Jack had gotten stuck with Auggie and Julian wanted to change that since he thought Jack was bummed about being with him. Julian asked Jack “do
Bullying is bound to happen anywhere at any time but occurs mostly within school limits. Kathleen Winkler defines bulling in her book, Bullying, as “...any kind of ongoing physical or verbal mistreatment, done with the intent to harm, where there is an imbalance of power between bully and victim” (Winkler 14). Bullying has an extremely important impact on one’s everyday life and can affect their life negatively getting to the point where they can no longer take the blow. To try and prevent bullying from taking place in schools, one needs to know how bullying effects a person, what the role of each person involved in the situation is, and have knowledge of specific methods on how to prevent it. Bullying in schools is a serious problem and a handful of school do their part to prevent it; others, not as much, which means there is room for improvements.
Auggie shows he is a fighter and really strong. He is always being bullied by many people until the end when everyone is trying to be his friend. After what happened when amos called him little dude after the fight with the seventh graders. Everyone thought
“Youth who participate in bullying are in some way socially vulnerable and use bullying as an expression of power” (“What is Bullying”). Some kids bully because of family problems, personal experiences, or even just to get anger and frustration out. From the book Lord of the Flies this is an example of bullying, “He took a step, and able to at least hit someone, stuck his fist into Piggy’s stomach” (Golding 71). Physical bullying from the character Jack to Piggy, the character that is most bullied. While physical bullying is a big part of the novel Lord of the Flies there are a couple of other types of bullying that are also
Tushman, to take a tour of the campus. When Auggie arrives Mr. Tushman introduces himself and asks Auggie some questions. Then he says that he has brought in three good students to give August the tour. When the students walk into the room August can see the look of shock on their faces. The girl changes her face back to a friendly smile and introduces herself as Charlotte. Auggie thinks Charlotte seems nice. One of the boys smiles and tells Auggie is name is Jack-Will and says the other boy’s name is Julian. Julian doesn’t seem as friendly as the other two. He is the antagonist of the
At the start of the story, Auggie was rather immature for his age, babyish as he had put it on page eight and nine. “I sat in her lap like I was a baby...I made my voice sound a little babyish.” This was well before his school experience, when he was used to everything going his way. Yet, this behavior faded after being sent to school. That was when he decided he was old enough to sleep in a place that wasn’t home, by himself. He even gave his mom his
Throughout the whole book, he really is (for lack of a better word) a huge jerk! Not only does he bully Auggie but also he bullies Jack, & even is rude to many of his other classmates, who really have not done anything wrong to him. However, I am a big believer in that there is some good in everyone, even when you cannot always see it. I really do believe that Julian
In the novel, Wonder, in pages 1-311, by R.J. Palacio, Auggie Pullman, a boy that had multiple surgeries due to his deformed cleft palate conquers the world with his smile and later his confidence. In this book Auggie goes to school for the very first time. Over time, Auggie learns how to appreciate who he is, and he shows others [kids & adults] that having a deformed face is not going to stop him from what he wants to achieve in life. Later on in his life, he faces the loss of his beloved dog named Daisy and many family problems such as his parent’s divorce and his dad’s new little family that is beginning. Overall R.J. tries to show kids like Auggie that they are meaningful in some way, and they are beyond amazing and strong.
Every day parents send their children to school, assuming they will be safe. Although many are safe, there are also many that are bullied on a daily basis. In reviewing the definition of the word “bullied,” it fundamentally is unwanted aggressive or harmful behavior with a perceived power imbalance that is directed onto those individuals that are weaker to intimidate them to gain something they want (www.stopbullying.com, 2012).
What appears to be bullying is not always bullying. There is this misconception that when someone disagrees with another person or is hurtful towards that person, bullying always seems to be what they say is going on. Although statistics shows that one in four kids are bullied, all aggressive actions are not bullying. If a person has self-esteem and self confidence in themselves and not let others tear you down the imbalance of power is balanced. Bullies have more power over their victims and always want to be on top. They enjoy displaying the power they have over their victim.
