All throughout history there are many documentations of different cultures and their many gods and goddesses. Many of these cultures did not have just one god or goddess, they had several. In ancient Greece there are said to be twelve Olympian Gods and Goddesses that preside in Mount Olympus. Although there are many different variations and myths, there are the main twelve Olympians: Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Athena, Artemis, Apollo, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Ares, and Hermes. He became ruler of the sea when he drew lots with Zeus and Hades for the throne. Because he is the god of all water, he is worshipped by seamen. Poseidon was married to the sea nymph Amphitrite, who is the granddaughter of Oceanus. (1) He was second in power when it comes to the throne. Even though Poseidon was part of the Olympians, he mostly stayed in his home of water. (2) He is said to wield a trident that can cause earthquakes and terrible tsunamis. He was not welcomed by men and gods. Because men feared him, he was given the name Plouton. He was given this name so people would not have to say his name out loud for fear that they would die. It is said that Hades kidnapped her and forced her to join him in the underworld. She was the oldest daughter of Cronos and Rhea, before she was eaten by her father, along with her siblings; Demeter, Hades, Poseidon, Hera, and Zeus.
