So many people are talking about whether or not the Confederate Flag is racist, and whether or not it should be banned in the U.S. Why are so many people even considering it? The Confederate Flag is definitely not racist. It represents a time of racism and discrimination, but does that truly mean that the flag itself is racist? Just because the flag represents the Confederate States of America, the slave states, it doesn’t mean that the flag is blatantly racist. The flag is only a symbol, a piece meant to represent that time. It doesn’t have anything to do with what happened in that time, more just something to represent that cause. Simply looking at it from a factual standpoint, the flag does not represent legitimate racism, rather the opinion of …show more content…
This was the Confederacy's tactic, flashing a flag that was followed by destruction. It’s bright colors were meant to be visible from anywhere on the battlefield. Although this flag was used throughout the war, all it was was a visual effect. It did not speak about racism, act for racism, or show racism. It was only created for show, nothing else. It was merely an irrelevant piece of cloth that was waved in the air during battle.
Banning the flag would do nothing, it wouldn’t prevent hate crimes against African Americans, nor would it give white supremacists any less ability to do harm. All it would do is erase a piece of our history’s image, regardless of how it makes us as Americans look. The Confederate Flag does easily give an image of hatred and violence, which is what was intended when it was first designed and created. By banning the flag, you would easily give a passage for more violence from white supremacists. Many accusatory claims could include the free speech argument, as well as the racist swings at any minority near. Any possible way of removing the flag would prove to be obsolete, as arguments from several parties would both delay the

So why get rid of this flag? Being a nation that prohibits slavery in written law, some Americans who continue to believe the false rumor that the flag represents slavery and racism or are less educated with the history behind the flag and want to get rid of it. Our society has represented the Confederate flag in a disrespectful manner and needs to change that.
Yes, the confederate flag shown in the public properties should be banned because they Symbolizes racism and inequality for many of the people basically in the north. To most of the people it symbolizes the time of slavery which was acceptable at the time. And there is no real purpose of showing it on these properties.
From the 1860's to the 2000's a lot has happened with war and people's opinions on many things , Stories are getting jumbled up including this flag’s history because it has been in history for so long and people are adding their opinions that are ridiculous and that may also be one of the things that has influenced people's thoughts on the flag and not only that but the flag came from a very rough time in history and in ways it is very understanding that people got their thoughts influenced and that's why we should should take the time and help them have a better understanding on the confederate flags meaning. The rebel flag has and will always be bashed because of its history, but it is not completely racist and is not intended to be used to show hatred because of the color of someone's skin, it was the people who got a hold of the flag and flew it on their beliefs and that's one of the leading causes to the conflict on the flags meaning. The confederate flag is 154 years
The Confederate Battle flag is one of the most recognized symbols in the United States. It is not always a welcome symbol in today’s society. Take for instance the state of South Carolina having to remove it from its statehouse on April 12, 2000. The reason it is not always welcome is because people often misinterpret its true meaning. It is not a symbol of hatred but, a symbol of southern pride and honor. The pride and honor of all the men and women who carried it the flag into battle fighting for what they believed in, Southern independence.
Although the Confederate flag historically represented southern heritage, it has become a symbol of racism because it was used as a symbol of being pro-slavery and anti-civil rights. When a recent study was done on the views on the Confederate flag, most people checked the box that said "unmarked" which means either they just do

very legitimately be seen as a harmful form of free speech. However in present day, the confederate flag, for the most part does not carry the same meaning or same threat. Many people, who express themselves through the confederate flag as a symbol, do so as a form of showing southern pride or southern heritage. The current symbol of the confederate flag does not display the same form of harm as it did in history. The current flag does not physically harm anyone nor does it present a credible threat that could morally harm someone through fear. This form of free speech does not cause true harm to individual liberties of the people who see the flag. The symbolism of the flag is objective and feeling offended by the flag is based on interpretation. A specific statement of hatred that can be reasonably interpreted as a credible threat is not a form of free speech. In the scenario when someone 's free speech can be reasonably viewed as a threat to another person 's safety, there may be interference. In a scenario where a person has a credible fear because of free speech, then there is a clear infringement on persona liberty. The ability to live life without fear is an individual liberty that should be protected. Fear is an infringement of the right to live and the right to liberty. If someone feels their life is threatened by something, then both their right to life, and right to individual liberty are compromised. Compared to simply being offended by something, which cannot
The first official confederate flag was made in 1861 for use of the Confederate states. The main reason for the southern states seceding at the time was because of how they wanted to keep slavery. The flag has started to become popular as a symbol of hate and racism in the modern day. This type of thing should not be aloud to be flown in public buildings and should be kept out of schools.
The problem we are facing today is whether or not the confederate flag is a symbol of hate and racism of just some peoples misunderstanding of the meaning of the flag it’s self. I think meaning of the flag is simple and straightforward ,it represents the Confederate side in the civil war. I do not think the confederate flag should be banned on private or public property for a few reasons .One reason is that the civil war a huge mark on our history that needs to be remembered. Another reason would be that the civil war was not about slavery. The man that Started this big debate Dylann Roof was completely crazy.
The confederate flag shouldn’t be taken down, but, if taken down shouldn’t be forgotten in the South.First of all, the confederate flag represents the history of South Carolina and the past and present . Second of all, even if the flag is taken down, the flag should be placed in a museum and the people of South Carolina should vote.Lastly, some people see the confederate flag has a racist flag, but, on the other side people think it represents the civil war and the people that died during that time. Some people believe, that the confederate flag represents racism, however, you could say that the flag represents the civil war and the people that died during that time.
Confederate flags symbolise different things to others. One may say, “It shows slavery and persecution” and others say “It is pride of southern heritage”. More so today, people will see it as persecution, and believe it is wrong to wield around the flag of the nation, who pursued one of America’s greatest shames.
Battle flags were used during the Civil War to build morale within the soldiers, and remind soldiers of what they were fighting for. These soldiers would die fighting to make sure their flag wasn’t taken by the enemy. Unlike their southern states, the Union did not adopt the trend to have battle flags, instead the Union mainly flew the American Flag. The Confederate States of America (CSA) had three main flags during this war. These flags included the first flag, which was the “Stars and Bars”.
The author mentioned that some citizens are still perturbed by the Confederate flag. While the number is slowly waning, many citizens were a part of the civil rights movement. They watched racist people protest against them using the flag as a symbol of racism, oppression, and hatred. To some, the flag may serve as a permanent reminder that racism is not truly dead in America.
