W. Johnson and T. Johnson informs, “The first is that by teaching students the skills, competencies, conceptual understandings, attitudes, and values necessary to resolve conflicts constructively, a safe and productive learning climate will be created.” Once students have mastered the competencies and attitudes they need to resolve conflicts, they will then have to face their own conflicts rather than avoid them. Through this process there will be both immediate and long-term goals.

My main intention is to persuade the audience on the topic that those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it and to pass year 12. The violent encounters of the past contain valuable lessons about resolving conflict. This writing is to be directed at the people reading it, which will be the general audience that doesn’t really understand the lessons of past and present conflict. Based on real world examples, and examples from the crucible. The style of writing is an expository.

For centuries, violence has been the go to way to settle conflicts, but it has also been very controversial throughout the years. While some say war is important in order to maintain our freedom, it is actually a very unnecessary and destructive way of settling conflicts because it kills so many innocent people and it hardly ever accomplishes anything for such a hefty price.

Conflict is natural it's how it is handled that creates a positive or negative outcome. If handled successfully, conflict leads to positive change, communication, and a great learning experience; if handled ineffectively, conflict can progress and evolve into physical violence, bullying and emotional pain (Bickmore, 2011). Conflict resolution or management refers to processes and programs that teach individuals concepts and skills for preventing, managing, and resolving conflicts non-violently (Holton, 2003). Conflict management programs in schools can teach effective communication, life skills, mutually beneficial negotiation strategies, and violence prevention strategies (Greene, 2011). Such programs are very effective in elementary, middle and high schools to help students, teachers, education administrators and parents resolve conflicts effectively.

As nurses, it is imperative that we have skills to deal with conflict we encounter throughout the day. Some conflicts are easily handled with simple solutions; other disagreements can persist for weeks or even months and never be handled in a proper way to resolve the situation. The later kind of situation can create resentment, anger, and animosity between employees or colleagues. In this paper I will describe a conflict situation with resolution strategies used by the confronter, discuss other ways to resolve the conflict, and discuss the conflict theory most beneficial to use with a diverse group of people.

The conflict perspective focus is on society based on conflicts and tensions between social groups. The conflict perspective grew by Karl Marx, whom viewed the society as, “a struggle between social classes” (36). This perspective looks at the ways which the government or socially powerful groups shape the lives of others. One example is, the introduction of machines in the work field. The article that I found is a father who jumped off a 100-foot bridge while holding his two children in his arms. Myatt (2012) states that conflict in the workplace is unavoidable; if left unresolved, workplace conflict may result in loss of productivity and the creation of barriers that can inhibit creativity, cooperation, and collaboration. In a world where violence is habitual, inevitably being used as the answer or defensive take on conflict, it is abolishing all signs of harmony, compassion and unity to each other. This is apparent as it overcrowds the daily newsfeed with reoccurring articles about conflict and its detrimental effects on society. History confirms, when violence is used by either the government or by the people, the other party in countries which are occupied by foreign powers generally fight back. It seems that even with the historic and much emphasised teachings of Dalai Lama, Gandhi and Nelson Mandela; to use non-violent ways of protest, there is still a proliferation of violence. It seems that the world is still turning its face and accepting violence as an ordinary act. This is unhealthy and unacceptable in countless ways.

Each conflict has a reason behind it. these conflicts usually occur when two or more individuals or groups feel they have irreconcilable differences, or they feel that there needs, interests or wants are threatened by the existence of the other groups demands. Hence clashes become inevitable. People all over the world, have different perspectives on life, and its problems, depending upon the environment, in which they have lived.
