Conflict Perspectives The idea of whom a war, conflict, or battle affects is a subject of relative perspective. The idea of who has the right to write about it further divides the field. One may be inclined to think only those who have directly engaged in combat should write about it. This view is misguided and ill placed to say the least. It is the responsibility of anyone capable, directly engaged or otherwise collaterally affected by war to capture the stories and lessons of a conflict. Without these collections derived from multiple sources and experiences, the world would have no long-standing recollection of the past and consequently no vision for the future. It is imperative as a civilized and modern society capable of great good and harm we record our collective experience of war. We accomplish this by a common respect and acceptance of all perspectives. People, communities, states, and nations touched by war must write and share the experience of sacrifice, loyalty, prejudice, duty, horror, respect, honor, and hardship. The ancillary viewpoints to a war and their unique life experience qualify them to offer unique insight into the many facets of conflict; the human condition, the struggles within, sheer will, commitment to an ideal, great military feats, or grievous failures for the betterment of mankind. People write about these things so we don’t repeat our mistakes. It is these stories of war written by a diverse background of contributors that captures our mistakes and equally our successes. Future generations must heed the hard earned tales of the many who have sacrificed so much and suppress the inclination to ignore what we have
