Scenario 2: The second conflict problem is that the senior members on the new team have been sloughing off the paper work and giving it to the new guys. At first it was not an issue because we could keep up with the workload, but now we are starting to fall behind on top of all these calls. Now the problem is the sergeant is coming down on us because we can not keep up with the workload, and he is suggesting we should do over time without pay to catch up. The type of conflict here would be the threat to social identity because you do not want to call out the senior members saying you can not handle the work load, and also you don’t want to tell your sergeant you can not do it. At the same time we can not keep up with the workload and we also do not want to put in unpaid overtime. The senior members do not want to take these calls because they want to have relaxed days at work so they are appearing busy so we …show more content…
If it continued to happen I would talk to the other members of my team and tell them I can not keep up with all the work because it is simply too much for one person to handle. I would explain that I am falling behind and the sergeant is starting to get irritated that I am falling behind and I should put in unpaid overtime. I would then wait a few weeks to see if things got resolved. If they kept sloughing off the work load I would pull the sergeant aside at some point and talk to him about how they have been acting busy to reduce the number of calls they go to and I have to pick them up. The reason I am falling behind is because I have to do my normal work and on top of that I am starting to pick up some of their work. I would try not to involve a third party unless I had no choice and things were not starting to get
In this paper I will discuss the conflict that is occurring at General Hospital, the conflict management styles that are evident in the case, and how General Hospital could have used teams to address the cost reductions needed to stay competitive. I will also describe how the CEO of General Hospital, Mike Hammer can us negotiation skills to get buy-in for the cost reductions and finally I will recommend a strategy for Hammer to resolve the problem.
In general, conflict theory is to explain the conflict between authority groups and powerless groups through the uneven distribution of power and resources in society (Lai, 2013). It is based entirely in power and how those in power do all they can to hold the majority of the population down and to keep them from gaining power, so as to secure their own position. Conflict theorists all assume that the existing social order is not a product of consensus and mutual benefit but rather a function of power differentials in society. These perspectives recognize that societal resources are limited and contend that opposing groups are in a constant struggle for a greater share of the resources and power that comes with them. As groups struggle to gain
Family violence, I believe can mean different things to different people. Based on what I read, family violence is an act of physical abuse, which causes injuries between members who are related somehow. The violence can also be psychological and mental. There has been great debate however on what constitutes family. It does not necessarily mean related by marriage or blood. It can also be between partners of any kind. I feel the term should be more classified as relationship or intimate as the book states. Violence is to give a broader variance to the subject. The most accurate and reliable way to measure family violence is by using the Conflict Tactic Scale (CTS). This method measures 3 variables: use of rational discussion and agreement, use of verbal/nonverbal expressions of hostility, and use of physical force or violence. The CTS is deemed to be more reliable due to the sampling procedure, the expansive numbers The CTS is deemed to be more reliable due to the sampling procedure, the expansive number of respondents and the validity of the CTS as a measuring device. The theory that offers the most hope of understanding family violence in my opinion is the social learning
For centuries, violence has been the go to way to settle conflicts, but it has also been very controversial throughout the years. While some say war is important in order to maintain our freedom, it is actually a very unnecessary and destructive way of settling conflicts because it kills so many innocent people and it hardly ever accomplishes anything for such a hefty price.
In this theory analysis, I will discuss two theories to explain why officers commit callous acts, why they tend to use excessive force against certain types of citizens and why there are only a few officers who perform these acts. Over the years police departments have received a considerable amount of public scrutiny due to their use of excessive force. As discussed before, police serve a vital part in society as prosecutors; however, police brutality is very common. One may ask, why do some law enforcement officers participate in abusive behavior against citizens, despite knowing their obligation to ensure the public safety? Using two theories, social conflict and control balance I will attempt answer that question.
I feel like if you create a dialogue about the planning process, orders process, and daily tasks, it will help resolve some of the concerns, issues. What perspectives and questions do they have? It is the same in when you are operating in a joint environment. I had a commander in Iraq in 2007; he was superb at establishing effective collaboration with our foreign partners. The commander’s
I also see a problem when it comes to trust and teamwork. Our division S4 section has an adversarial relationship with
Each member of the team is given a certain role that performs unique tasks that aid the collective team in reaching their goal. If a team member lacks discipline and is unable to follow instructions, the weight of that person's work falls on the rest of the team. The military is no exception to this, when a team leader fails to follow instructions, the squad leader must cover down. When the squad leader covers down, it causes additional strain on the platoon sergeant and First Sergeant. Every part of the team, no matter how small it is compared to the big picture, has a specific role in ensuring the entire team reaches its goals. The nature of the military does not make it immune to this, but in fact makes it more even more critical every soldier follows
Conflict perspective- Ms. Johnson is experiencing the conflict perspective, due to the kids moving in with her. She is used to living alone and living on a very conservative budget to support herself. Eventually, with Ron and Rosalind coming to live her living arrangements and financially will drastically change. Ms. Johnson is feeling a little of psychodynamic perspective also with the kids living with her. She expresses to the social worker that they are driving her a little crazy. Fortunately, Shirley enrolled the kids in preschool before she was sent to prison. This gives Ron and Rosalind a social support. They will be in a safe environment and they will be learning things to help prepare them for school. The kid’s physical and cognitive
The Types of Conflict In scenario two there are two three of conflict. Inter-group conflict is relevant in this situation because having the member “slough” off calls and paper work on the younger, new officer. This creates conflict between the young officer and fellow officers; as well as the young officer and his superior. The second type of conflict is
Conflict is a fact of life - for individuals, organizations, and societies. The costs of conflict are well-documented - high turnover, grievances and lawsuits, absenteeism, divorce, dysfunctional families, prejudice, fear. What many people don't realize is that well-managed conflict can actually be a force for positive change.
Introduction This case study will analyze my understanding of conflict management as well as getting a sense of my style of conflict management. During this case study, I will apply my working knowledge of resolving conflicts within the workplace as well as using the articles available through the required reading for Unit II to aid in developing a process to resolve the conflict from the scenario of my choosing. For this case study, I have chosen to use scenario #1 with respect to handling a workplace investigation as well as understanding various laws, steps needed for notifying proper agencies and people as well as listing investigation procedures used during the conflict management investigation. Scenario Chosen When choosing a scenario
With this extremely diverse group and the lack of a formal structure, one can see how conflict can and will easily arise. The company is developing a “top-of-the-range laptop scheduled to launch in two-weeks’ time,” but Jason wants the timetable pushed back until all of the glitches are worked out. Don, on the other hand, is adamant about keeping the current launch date do in part to the spokesperson he procured who will not be available during the time frame Jason has suggested. This issue has caused a major break in the already fragile working environment.
Conflict theory is the theory that human behavior in social contexts is the result of conflicts between competing groups, as different social groups, be they class-, gender- or race-defined, have unequal power and access to power, yet all groups compete for limited resources. This inevitably gives rise to tension and conflict, albeit often of the subtle variety, as oftentimes the conflicts between groups have been institutionalized in society to such a degree that the conflicts and tensions are such an expected part of society that the conflict, and inequality, itself disappears from public sight, and consciousness. For example, an adherent of a world systems theory of conflict would point to the global competition for resources, particularly the inequality between rich and poor nations struggling to provide the basic necessities of life to their inhabitants, as evidence of global conflict. Conflict theories seek to explain the interactions of groups within society, and assert that social order is preserved involuntarily through the exercise of power one social class holds over another (Lindsey, 2010, 7). The conflict between groups is not always obvious or apparent, so it must be unraveled and examined in order to identify and establish the impact of such conflict on society as a whole, as well as individual members and social groupings.
Conflicts are more common than not in this day and age. You can have a conflict in a work or school environment over anything. In order to fix most conflicts there has to be an open communication. Lack of communication can cause more problems than fix them.
