Introduction In a democratic system like India, the role played by the judiciary is of paramount prominence. The judiciary, through its immaculate reasoning ability helps to keep a democracy proficiently running, and this is perhaps one of the causes why the Independence of the judiciary is the cornerstone of India’s democracy. Transparency and accountability- these are two fundamental words which help in instituting a system of good governance in any country. Statistics and studies have shown that where there exists a veil of secrecy, there exists corruption. And as depressing as it is, the one body which adjudicates on corruption and lays down guidelines to prevent such corrupt activities has been affected by corruption itself. The reason why the collegium system was criticized and the government wanted to remove it was this very reason; it was injected and filled with corruption. The collegium system had no room for transparency, thus it eventually led to activities of corruption and nepotism taking place. Such acts of corruption, nepotism etc. would in the long run affect the judiciary and the stability of the government. The NJAC Act was introduced in the light of these events to overcome these issues and to provide a more dependable and stable mechanism to the appointment of judges to the High Court and the Supreme Court of India. After the National Judicial Commission Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on August 11, 2014 by the Hon’ble Law minister Mr. Ravi
Tulia, a small town in Texas of just under five-thousand people, is a frightening example of how the judicial system is governed solely by racism as well as one corrupt man’s word. In 1999, nearly ten percent of the town’s African American population was arrested in a single drug bust. Of the forty-six people arrested, thirty-eight were African-American, furthermore all were convicted. The remaining seven arrested where know to associate more with the black community than the white in Tulia as well. With the towns income levels averaging at or below the poverty line, most arrested could not afford to hire a good attorney that cared or had the time to care, left therefore with one provided by the state. Consequently, convictions were up to ninety years in jail for allegedly selling three and a half grams, more commonly known as an eight ball, of cocaine in drug-free zones. In was only on appeals, that the convictions where revoked on insubstantial evidence.
The Progress movement or as many refer to as the Progressive era, was a time frame where Americans joined in varying groups to advocate reform across the United States. To elaborate, Progressives believed in widespread change for child labor, industrialization, government, racial reform, and women’s rights. Countless stories of corruption in these areas were brought to light in the Progressive era mostly due to the published writings of Muckrakers. Muckrakers, were journalists who wrote for popular magazines that attempted to expose corrupt political activities from their investigative journalism. Furthermore, I will discuss and compare these groups and their attempts for changes in the rights of child labor, women, acknowledgment of corrupt government practices, racial relations, and industrialization reform.
I Think corruption starts within organizations is when There are no authority checks and balances that effects the mindset and integrity of The employees who are in high management positions and also working within the any department of a government sector or business. With the economy growing in many states corruption decreases because jobs are able to pay people well and not below what the job position requires. Many factors play when it comes to corruption because it starts from home so a family or person can live well and a major factor can be the strength of the state presidency office if, the presidency for the state is not strong and showing good change to help the state in bad times people start to lose motivation and practices that things will get better and decide to take things in their own hands as for corruption.
Upton Sinclair’s book the Jungle was about a Latvian family who decided to immigrate to America. They believed that America was a place to go and build wealth and thrive. When they arrive, they quickly realize that the great America is not all it’s described to be. The men in power are corrupt, the living conditions are deplorable, the area is overpopulated and there weren’t enough jobs for everyone. The jobs that were available were hard, and the factories were filthy. People often became ill and did not have enough money for doctors because they were underpaid. Sinclair wrote this book to open the eyes of the American public, and to finally incite change for the poverty stricken immigrants.
In The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, the Salem court gradually transformed from its original judicial goals to corruption, which strengthened Miller’s argument of the susceptibility of legal systems to ungodliness. Since Miller was suddenly listed as a sinner due to an accusation, he wrote this play as a commentary to the Puritan society and the corruption of officials. Situational irony was heavily utilized to contrast the original goals of a just theocracy to the resulting court corruption. In the beginning, the court strived to achieve equity and fairly punish sinners. However, the court then used the concept of “devil” to manipulate anyone
In the American version of a democratic system, a handful of extremely wealthy individuals and large corporations control the political system. By "funding" or bribing the candidates, they directly influence the election and nominations of presidents, governors, senators and congress members. The money is used for campaign staff, door to door voting operations, and television advertising. The continued influence of the wealthy violates the basic principle of democratic political equality. This cynical political campaign has become part of the democratic system that the politicians are not even required to justify their action. Even though a truly democratic system is too perfect to exist, a corrupted political system destroys the hope for a system that has the public's interest in mind.
For my weekly journal, I decided to talk about Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. This act was established in 1970 by the congress to prevent organized crime in the United States. One of the cases that I found online talks about two companies Allstate Insurance Company and Providence chiropractic office. Providence Chiropractic violated the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act so Allstate Insurance Company decided to sue them. Allstate Company accused them for misrepresenting medical records to lift insurance claims. The owner submitted false bills looking for installment for treatment that was never provided. Allstate claims that the three women that were involved in this crime intentionally and
South in the former confederate states for their own financial and political gain (Black 1). According to Britannica, This created corrupt ripples throughout the southern states typically involving financial schemes left largely unchecked due to the turmoil in that region (Britannica 1). These cases are really the first major occurrences in which we see blatant corruption in American history linked to money and poor judgement by elected officials. This is not democratic capitalism by any means this is abuses of power. According to Bob Burnett, “Democratic capitalism…These countries feature strong judicial systems, robust civil rights, a comprehensive safety net, and a progressive tax system” (Burnett 1). We as a nation didn’t have control of special interest back then we don’t even have control now with the policies we currently have in place to regulate business and advance us all.
How would one “fix” the United States of America? Quite obviously, the issues and corruptions within America cannot simply be fixed by a single solution. The best answer to a question of this capacity is an answer which targets pressing issues individually; perhaps, addressing ways to improve America given its current state if government and society. In order to improve America, reforms to campaign contribution and lobbyist need to be made which will result in refinement in the overall health of the county.
What is one world problem that can be reduced drastically by citizens of the world? That would be political and governmental corruption. Some countries it may be easier to have a impact than others like in America and that is why as an American citizen taking the most steps that we can to help this problem is not just our right but our duty. In the United States contrary to the average citizens conditioning towards the government corruption isn’t really as bad compared to many countries. But no matter the size a problem it remains what it is, a problem. Through the research that I have done I believe there is many ways as a people we can reduce the substantial issue around the world. It will take a great deal of help from law makers, politicians, teachers, the media, and most importantly the everyday citizen. In order to work towards a solution it is imperative to have a sound background and prospective from a world view.
The main thing the writer is saying is that power can be corruptive. At the beginning of the book, Major calls all the animals to a meeting to tell the animals of the need for a rebellion against humans. The animals scare Jones away from the farm and the two boars, Snowball and Napoleon, become leaders of the farm and rebellion. Through his actions of getting rid of Snowball and treating himself better than the rest of the animals, we start to see Napoleon quickly becoming greedy for power. Napoleon and the pigs move into the farm house, stop working, and quickly become very human-like. Napoleon uses dogs to get rid of those who question his power. The corruption of the principles of “Animalism” is shown by the changing of the Seven Commandments,
Politics is fueled by corruption. It causes government involved citizens to over use their power into manipulating others to achieve what they want. In All the King’s Men, written by Robert Pen Warren, Warren distributes politics to show how Willie Stark transformed. His character gradually deteriorates as a person throughout the political novel leading up to his death. Warren writes to exemplify politics and how it ruined lives of well-rounded people. Warren demonstrates the role of politics as evil because he wants to prove the corrupted doings of politics. Novel, All the King’s Men, Willie Stark is slowly, but thoroughly corrupted by multiple political instances that ultimately lead to his death.

Throughout history, the criminal justice has had different ideologies. Back when the first Americans settled their system was based on Mens Reas (guilty mind) and now it is based on the mindset of “get tough on crime” (The Evolution, n.d, para. 3 and 8). As the ideologies of this system have changed, the purpose has remained the same. The purpose is to control crime and to penalize the guilty. Flaws can often be found in this system especially if they accuse someone of a wrong crime, don’t give them a fair trial, people plead guilty because they cannot make bail, and so on (Johnson, 2014, para. 7). Through these flaws, people view this system as being corrupt and ultimately end up not believing in the system. The criminal justice system plays a vital role in our country today and it needs help to not follow along the path of corruption.
In recent years, the use of Suspension and Debarment as an anti corruption and anti collusion tool has gained traction in major procurement bodies around the world. The objective of such actions is to sanitize the procurement process by getting rid of bad players and also to set an example of such bad players. Another goal, as an extension, is to instigate corporate reforms and good corporate governance among suppliers and contractors and generally among players in the procurement process.
