Introduction What is cosmetology? Cosmetology is a place where men and women can get treatments for their hair. To become a cosmetologist you will need a license and you will need many different skills. A cosmetologist is someone who enjoy communicating, hands on activity, and creativity. What does a cosmetologist do? According to Mary Jones, who works at Great Clips, cosmetologist duty is to give client treatments, style options, wash, condition, color hair, cut, trim, dry, and style the client hair. Career Area I have always had an interest in cosmetology. In my childhood, I used baby dolls as my clients. I would cut, comb, brush, wash, and style their hair. When I was 12 years old, I would touch the hair of my family members. One reason why I wanted to do hair is I would always watch my aunt do all these different kinds of styles to people’s hair. There are career opportunities for people interested in the science, the health, and the aesthetics of human hair. Of the many career opportunities available, the three of focus for this paper will be a hair stylist in the film and/or fashion industry; a cosmetic scientist that specializes in hair; and the executive producer of an international hair show.

Some salons will let cosmetologist rent a section of the salon for a certain price, so they are their own boss. Most people get into cosmetology because they like making people feel good about themselves. A student that graduated from Fullerton College said, “I love when a client looks in a mirror and is brought to tears because she did not know she could look so beautiful, that's why I do my job, it is extremely gratifying to realize I am responsible for making someone feel better about themselves after leaving my chair.” Hairdressers and cosmetologists often build a friendship connection with their client, some clients use appointments to relax and unwind and see their stylist as a friend for an hour.

They often work in salons, spas, barber shops, sometimes work from home, or they can even travel to their clients if they are well known by celebrities.
