Cosmetology in High School
High schools around the United States should provide students who are willing to pursue their cosmetology careers an opportunity to earn their licenses. Starting from their junior year until they graduated high school.
As of most School, the county, and Board refuses to offer the students more workforce training. “According to the U.S. Board of Labor statistics, 825,000 people work in the cosmetology industry as barbers, skin care specialists, hair stylists and nail technicians. While cosmetology is big business in large, densely populated cities and states, even the smallest towns can have at least one barber shop or salon. As cosmetologists continue to train for new and in-demand techniques, their services are considered important by many members of society today.”

Additional options that are best for the students in high school who plans on pursuing their career in cosmetology which is more expensive are Online Cosmetology Classes, which most are self-paced and another option is to take part-time cosmetology programs. There are a lot of steps in getting education and training for a career in Cosmetology. The minimum education level required for this career is postsecondary training. There is no such thing as maximum training in cosmetology because a person can keep training after receiving the credentials necessary to start a career in cosmetology. ‘Cosmetology programs generally grant certificates, diplomas or associate's degrees, rather than bachelor's degrees’ (Bachelor’s). All the education necessary is a high school diploma, cosmetology diploma, and a certificate or associate's degree program. The education needed for cosmetology can range anywhere from 9 months to 2 years. The minimal amount for this education in cosmetology is from $5,000 to $10,000. Career and Technical Education (CTE) or “vocational education” provides preparation and skill building for careers. Some high school students will enter the workforce without additional training, but many will receive secondary CTE professional certifications. The goal of CTE is to connect students with growing industries in the American economy and give them the skills and training required for long-term success. However, little is known about CTE. Therefore, students lack access to high-quality secondary CTE.
In order to become a cosmetologist, I will have to take certain steps. According to Bureau of Labor Statistics, I must graduate from a state-licensed barber or cosmetology school. I must also have a high school diploma or equivalent. The ages vary from state to a state of how old I have to be to attend a hair school. Most states require that I to be at least 17 or 18 to apply. There are some states that will allow enrollment at the age of 16.After I have graduated from a state-approved training I will be required to take a test.The test will be a written test and/or in some cases it may be a test of styling skills or an oral exam. When I graduate from high school, I plan on going to college for Cosmetology, and if you are not aware of what that is it is basically when you do hair, and get paid. Cosmetology is a very interesting career. You will learn many things from taking up that career.
Ever since I was in 8th grade I knew I wanted to become a Cosmetologist. Even when I was a little kid I loved getting my hair done. I had my Mamaw style it for me everyday. Then as I got older, I started dying my hair. The first time I dyed it was in fifth grade and I got blonde highlights from my natural hair color a very light brown, almost blonde. Then the next year in sixth grade I got red lowlights. From then I got more blonde in my hair in seventh and eighth grade, but I also dyed it maroon too. Point being is that I’m obsessed with different hair colors and hairstyles. For the near future my goal is to attend Kaye’s beauty college. I want to go there my Junior and Senior year of high school. I want to go early so I can get a head start of other people wanting to become a cosmetologist too. I will have an advantage by graduating hair and high school at the same time. I want to be a cosmetologist because I love doing mine and other peoples hair and makeup. When I first made this decision I had people questioned me if that's really what I wanted to be.
But, this can vary depending on what program you choose. Certificate programs can be completed in 9-12 months. On the other hand, an Associate’s program requires 18-24 months of training. The last portion of the training is clock hours required for licensure, which takes place in a real work environment. A college I would consider attending is College of Hair Design located in Lincoln, Nebraska. At this selected college, a cosmetology program provides 2,100 hours of education to prepare for the Nebraska State Cosmetology Board Exam so students are able to obtain their cosmetology license. The average salary for cosmetologists is $24,260, but it can go up to $49,050 with more experience. Cosmetology graduates will able to apply for licensure or registration in Florida as a cosmetologist & esthetician. The Cosmetology curriculum is designed to qualify students for the Cosmetology Licensing Examination.
I love makeup! This passion in my life has made me consider a career as a cosmetologist. I love the way makeup and doing my hair makes me feel, I feel so much more confident in myself when I wear makeup and do my hair. I am very interested in this career because I would love to make other people feel confident. I always see cosmetologist in salons doing someone's hair and just seeing how happy the person gets when their get their hair done, the cosmetologist most likely feels so good after making someone happy with their hair, makeup or skin if they are doing facials.
