Religion was created for explaining how the world was created before science came about. No one really has proof or evidence on how the world was created there is only myths and theories on how the planet earth came about. There are all sorts of religious creation stories on how the world was created and they all seem to have close similarities but also major differences. Stories like the Genesis and Amaterasu (Japanese Creation) have close comparisons, but also have differences as well. These types of myth reveal on what these cultures found to be important and the meaning of life.
In the Genesis the world is created by only one God he is the “Creator and source of all life,” (Gottlieb 1) . He creates the world by speaking into the darkness. An example on how God uses his voice by creating the world is by saying ““Let there be light,” and then there was light.”” (Moses 1:3). This God created the earth in seven days, which is why there are 7 days out of the week. Each day he created something different like the light, the sky, living creatures, and et cetera. On the seventh day God talks about how he rested from all the work he had done. This is why people that are Christians worship usually on a Sunday. In the Genesis, God creates a man out of dust and forms a woman out of the man’s rib. God places the seeds of humankind in the Garden of Eden, he names the man Adam and names the women Eve. God creates them so “They could eat freely from all but one of the trees,” (Gray
Every religion has its own aspects on how it thinks the world was created. Each one of those thoughts are allied in some kind of way. People have always needed to have a reason for the creation of the earth. No one knows personally, but there are myths. Various Native American tribes have written and recorded how they believe this heavenly body was originated.
Through out our lives we will all at some point seek for answers of the questions we have about life itself, but no one has ever got the true answer. No one knows why they were really put on the earth or what the point of life is or why there is good and evil. Religion try to answer some of these questions. A common question is who or what is god. Religion sets lifestyles for people to follow, it makes path ways in attempts to try answer these questions and these are what people live by.
Genesis 1-3 contains the creation story, so the origin of the earth. Describing events before human existence it cannot be a report of historical events. By definition, the creation story is a myth, as its topic is “beyond anyone’s experience or total understanding” (Ralph & Walters, 2001). To fully understand the story, one must consider the ancient context of the time Genesis was written. Documented after the Babylonian exile, the first creation story aims to re-establish the beliefs of the Israelites. While being held captive in Babylon, Judahites were confronted with beliefs opposing to their own. For instance, Enuma Elish, the Babylonian creation story, displays the faith in a good spirit, but bad matter. On the contrary, Israelites believed in the goodness of all. Furthermore, Babylonians assumed that humans were, at their core, not good. Genesis was therefore written as a contrast to Enuma Elish, emphasising and reaffirming the Israelites’ believe of humans being good, because they were created in the image of God (Ralph & Walters, 2001). A fundamentalist point of view does not take the beliefs of the time into account. It is impossible to fully appreciate the distinct theology of Genesis without considering Enuma Elish and other ancient narratives. Another major distinction between a fundamentalist and contextualist interpretation of the first creation story is how the cultural setting of the author determines the narrative. Contextualists correctly understand that the origin of Sabbath is due to the workweek structure of the author’s society. Contrasting, fundamentalists presume that because the story presents God’s point of view, Sabbath must originate from God resting on the seventh day. Misinterpreting these details leads to misunderstanding the relationship between God and humans. God had to work through human authors to pass on knowledge and insight
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. …the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the spirit of God was hovering over the waters.” In the Christian faith the world was created by God in the sequence of seven days. Throughout those days he made light and darkness, water and sky; he made the animals of the water and the animals
Religion is one of the greatest creations of mankind. Human beings are different from any other animals because of their ability to think and to create. When man evolved to form societies or countries, when they need to understand better the world around them, religions were created naturally.
In order to explain creation, the Hebrews follow what the bible says and turn to God. Within this culture it is said that God created the world in seven days. During these seven days, God created the light, sky, land, oceans, plants, sun, moon, stars, birds, fish, sea creatures, land animals, and people. On the seventh day God rested and looked down in amazement at all he had created. Today, people worship God and follow his ten commandments in their lives. Even though there are many new religions that have branched off
Almost all religions around the world are based on a belief. Almost every religion have certain rules and principles that order together within a society: Many people misunderstand and misinterpret the holy texts the Bible, Quran, Torah, and others fabricate. Religion is defined as faith to a higher being who one believes has created us. It has also been used as laws through history to stop the committing of crimes. In many religions, the consequences of breaking rules and regulations of the religion are burning in the pit of hell. Religion is man-made and was created for many reasons but mainly to keep peace and justice in the world. But the words can be manipulated and used as an excuse to start wars on this planet. This caused many to believe that the world would be a better place without religion.
In Genesis, the first book of The Bible the Christian and Jewish creation story is told. God spoke and his Word was done. He made the heavens and the earth. He made light and drove away the dark. On the earth he created the waters and lands and man and beast.
Religion forms as a method for dealing with life and the world it makes up. It answers the questions that are beyond science and logic. It eliminates the question of "Why?", and brings the fellow believers together to cope with the community and personal problems. People come to religion to find stability, a sense of understanding, and help from other believers. These are the needs that religion fulfills.
Judeo Christian beliefs hold that, in the first chapter of Genesis, God created the world in six days, while resting on the seventh. One the first day God created the heavens and the earth, the day and the night, and a dome separating the earth from the sky. On the second day, God created the land and the seas. On the third day, He created the plants that bear seeds and fruit that bears fruit with seeds in it. On the fourth day, He created the sun and the moon and the stars. On the fifth day, God created animals to inhabit the water and birds to fly beneath the dome, blessing them to be fruitful and multiply in the water and under the dome. On the sixth day, God created wild animals and tame animals and crawling things to inhabit the earth. He also created human beings, both male and female, in His image. On the seventh day, he rested.
In most cultures and myths most people seems to agree on that the animals and creatures of this world, were here way before humans ever existed. The different ideas of ways of how humans are created are very different but yet most cultures do agree that animals were here before humans. Some of these creation myths also believe that an animal was honored by the creator or God to help create this world. Two creation myths that seem to agree on more things about the creation with animals are from Siberia and North America. Neither one of these cultures or tribes are from the same time period or location, yet their views are so similar.
The early chapters of Genesis assumes that God exists, and they describe a beginning that only God could know. These chapters tell us about the creation of the world as we know it. The natural world was created by God in six days. In these six days God created light, sky, sea, land, and living things (Genesis 1). “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1 NKJV).
Beginning with the first chapter in the Book of Genesis, 1:1-31 through to 2:1-3, which is the most recognized Hebrew and Christian version of the Creation story. On the first day God creates heaven, Earth, day and night. Then on the second day the skies and oceans are formed. Next on the third day is the creation of dry land, vegetation and fruit trees. This is followed on the fourth day with the formation of the sun, moon and stars. On the fifth day all creatures that swim along with all creatures that fly are created. Finally, on the sixth day God creates all of the other remaining creatures and animals that will live on the earth as well as man and woman. Afterwards, with all of his work completed God takes a rest on the seventh day.
Religion has been important to mankind since he discovered that he could think. Especially when the questions arose on where man came from. Thus, the invention of a supreme being and ideas on how man came about. In a time before scientific discovery, man had tales of the beginning of life on Earth. The stories were passed down from generation to generation and each corner of the world had their own take on how life was created.
Christians may disagree amongst themselves on how the universe and the earth were created, but the communal belief between the groups is that God created everything. The timeline and the process in which it was done are debated between the various groups of Christianity. In Genesis we discover that it takes God six days to create the earth, heaven, universe, and all the species found on Earth (Genesis 1-2). In the beginning God is introduced as the creator and he reins supreme over his creations. Later on in the Bible God’s attributes and characteristics are presented to the reader. In addition to being the creator he is also all knowing, enteral, loving, compassionate, forgiving, and good (Diffey, 2014,). In Christianity God is the Father and mankind is referred too as his flock. God enjoys walking with, conversing, and tending to his flock. God created
