Was it really worth it, going this far. Shivering, Jonas, with Gabriel in his lap, gave the rusted sled a small push, feeling the frosted snow that laid lightly over the hill melt in his fingers. It was freezing, getting harder and harder to breathe, seeing his breath in front of him every time he exhaled. He took a glance at Gabriel as they went down, looking into the soft eyes with light tears dripping down his reddened cheeks. Jonas held onto Gabriel, as the sled went down swiftly over the white snow. He wished that he would have perceived a little more warmth from the Giver that would give him a little more strength. He and Gabriel were getting colder, making them more weak, with their hands freezing and their toes all numb. They were
The forest had gone.... and the Witch looked much younger. Audette opened her eyes and had found herself upon a brow of white lilies. The shape of the shrouded old woman seemed changed. Having turned around, and opened her mantle to the tearing gusts, Meliza revealed to the young lady two streams of shinging blackness and smooth white flesh. Audette stopped in her tracks.
E.M Forster said "A work of literature must provide more than factual accuracy or vivid physical reality... it must tell us more than we already know," meaning that literature doesn't need factual information to mean something to the audience, and I agree. "The Giver" by Lois Lowry supports this claim, because it is fictional, and still provides emotional appeals. This novel is a good example of how literature can be effective while being fictional. It is based in a futuristic dystopian society. By examining all of the flaws in society today, it shows that there is room for improvement without being controversial. Lowry wrote the book to give us a general idea of his opinion on issues in modern society, and to foreshadow the larger issues that will eventually be created.
Jonas finally reached the end of the enormous hill that never seemed to end. He began to take lurching steps in the deep snow and continued to march forward even with the ongoing swirling winds and harsh snow. Despite all of this Jonas was more determined than ever since he could see the lights come closer with each staggering step. Grabbing Gabriel tightly he felt at peace as he felt Gabe’s steady heart beat reassuring him he’s safe. As the night sky became darker Jonas realized that the snow stopped and it was much easier to walk now. As Jonas continued houses decorated in reds, greens and blues came into his view but, they were still quite a distance away. He also had to get through a maze of trees to get there. Jonas walked carefully amongst them as he protected Gabriel from their sharp edges.
“I don’t think you want to hear what I have to say about the way you treat me, now go home and look after your daughter, she needs you,” Silvia demanded, shrugging Walker’s arm off of her body.
Sue froze where she stood, frozen for what must have felt like hours. “You mean, he waited all of this time to paint his masterpiece and not only did he paint it for me but – he used his life to paint it.” Sue was overwhelmed at the thought, she was the reason Mr. Behrman had gone out that night, she was the reason he had passed away. “I caused his demise, my own selfishness did this!” Sue cried. Johnsy quickly took hold of Sue’s hands and said to her: “No darling, you did just the opposite, you showed Mr. Behrman what he had been looking for, for these years. You inspired his masterpiece!” Understanding then that Mr. Behrman’s sacrifice for her, was no sacrifice at all, his dream had been fulfilled and he had continued his journey. At that
The sled slowed as they reached the bottom of the hill. Jonas stood up trying to get to the house that was straight ahead of him. It took all his strength to keep walking. He was so bitterly cold he would have thought he was frozen. The only thing that kept him going was the thought that he could save Gabriel. Give him a life that he himself didn’t have. Each agonizing step he thought he would die ,but he made it to the house ,his only hope of survival. He transmitted his warmest memory to Gabriel with the only strength he had left. Jonas saw the door open as everything went dark.
For the first time, he heard something that he knew to be music. He heard people singing. Jonas, now at the bottom of the hill with Gabriel shivering in his arms, trudged through the snow towards the small dwelling made of some strange material, from which the music emitted from. As he made his way through the dense snow, Gabriel clung closer, hoping to become warmer, to live longer. Once, Jonas reached the front of the dwelling he could feel warmth and love in his body, just like from the memory of Christmas. Jonas huddled Gabriel in his feelings of warmth and love and knocked on the door of the dwelling. An old woman answered the door, with a gleeful smile on her face, ushering Jonas to come in.
Jonas felt the cold snow biting his nose. The cold wind howling, trees croaking, and...and the sound of music was in his ears. He knew that it was real, and that it was coming from that log cabin that was now right in front of him. He tried to stand up but he was just too weak. He just fell down on the cold, wet, snow. He had given all his warm memories to gabriel just to keep him alive. Then it all went black.
But it was different, it was a memory of his own. Trying to keep themselves warm in the cold weather, Jonas struggled to see through the swirling white snow, but sense warmth and life ahead. Reaching the top of the hill, he saw a sled waiting for him. He got on with Gabe, tugging on the ropes and hugging him close. The snow soon became soft and powdery with no ice, no chance of falling, and no pain. He took a leap of faith and started going down, still holding Gabe tight
‘Breathe, just breathe. It's nothing more than a dark alley and you're not afraid of the dark - Come on!' Elena tried to calm herself and she inhaled a deep breath before she forced her legs to move. It was true: Elena Gilbert was not afraid of the dark, but there was something about this place that made her feel anything but safe. I took of my tunic once more. I lay down on the cold, hard bed. The gentle touch of The Giver's hand came down at me. This time his hands were not hot nor cold. I then start to see the bright light of the sun come down at me, but a tree lays right in front of the rays of heat blocking the brightness of the light. I start to hear a faint buzz, getting louder as I walk closer to the tree. Out comes a yellow and black striped little flying bug. I finally dig deep enough and suddenly think of a word, bee. I get closer to the bee. It comes right up to me seeking something. It just lays there on my shaking arm as it gets close to my elbow. All of the sudden it flies up in the air, coming down back at my arm like a bullet. A sharp pain goes up and
“Get her” they yelled. The girl kept running through the mountains. She ran fast dodging trees and rocks with them on her tail. She tripped over a rock and landed in a stream. The boys stood over her, panting. “Get up” he said but, she just sat there, looking scared out of her mind. “I said get up!” one of the boys yelled. The girl stood up, getting ready to run again. “Now come here, Kaley” hs said, acting much calmer now. “Now!” He said. Kaley was taking no chances so she started to run again. “Shit!” he yelled, running after her. It wasn’t long until he caught her again. “Where are you going?” he said. His friends ran up and grabbed her arms. Kaley couldn’t run anymore. She waited for the beating that was sure to come. “Dad’s right, you
As the sled reached it’s destination Jonas found himself looking down at Gabe, he felt weak. Nauseated, the last thing he saw was the snow filled cotton balls in the sky. Gabriel was still conscious, however he was beginning to have frostbite on three of his fingers and all of his toes. He whimpered in pain waiting on someone to soothe it and bring him peace. The snowfall forcefully entered Jonas’s jacket suddenly waking him up. Gabrielle was sitting next to him continuously screaming. Jonas instinctively picked up gabe and tried to find the problem. Looking all over Gabe, Jonas finally went to his hands realizing the issue. Jonas gave Gabe his socks and took his toboggan off and wrapped it around his hands. Gabe refused at first then

could bring the supplies in. The man in black used this opportunity to quickly open the door of the rig and closed it as if there was a baby on the other side. The man then slowly tiptoed with his feet slowly sinking into the sand as he silently worked his way to the post office next door to the shop. He then walked in and managed to walk his way up the precarious, slightly decaying steps leading to the attic.
