The Lybythian

Chapter One The grace and fluidity of the girls body was so impressive, the movement came naturally. Step, punch, kick, block, she looked like a dancer who had finally perfected a routine, but this was just her warm up, no wonder she had become an apprentice so early. The girl’s name is Maryzallia. Maryzallia is very young for her ranking; generally apprentices are 20-22 years of age. Maryzallia is 18, and only supposed to be a junior or even a pupil. Eventually she could go on, to be a graduate and then a master. She could become the Battlemaster as well, but she didn’t think so. NO! It wasn’t his time!” she shrieked to the heavens. Frantically she crawled over to his body, cradling him in her arms. She cried out:
“ What have we done to deserve this brutality?” Larciet had arrived, saw the boy and understood what it meant. He looked at Maryzallia, her face placid, obviously covering up the horror in her mind. She pulled the note off of the arrow, and walked mechanically over to him showing no emotion.
“ Master, I… I was too late.” She sighed, and handed him the note. He read it, and his face fell even more than it already had.
“What is it? Is there going to be a war? What’s going on?” She needed answers.
“I will explain it all later, but for now you have advanced to graduate. This means that you have access to everything the masters have, but you are too young to take on an apprentice and go on solo missions. I know you are confused, but I have to deal with other things right now.”
“Okay, I will go pack my possessions.” She walked away with no intention of packing; she needed to tell Olive the bad news. It would be difficult, but she had a right to know.
