I’m a sceptical of closed minds, mainly, how can you know things if you are not looking? A critical thinker is someone who thinks creatively, smart and out of the box. This essay will define the term critical thinking according to different authors who wrote about critical thinking in their journals, secondly will discuss the characteristics of a critical thinker, furthermore examine why is critical thinking important and the benefits. As Paul and Elder point out, critical thinking is self-guided and self-disciplined thinking that assists us in reasoning in a fairminded way (FOCT, 2017). It allows us as humans to live a conscious and consistent life where rationality, reasonability and empathy and present when faced with problems. Think deeply! Think and keep thinking. Still, not everyone who thinks or thinks deeply is actually critical thinking. You can be highly intelligent or have vast knowledge but that doesn’t mean that you can think critically. Using intelligence and knowledge to reach one’s rationale viewpoint and objective in what a critical thinker does. The opinions and beliefs of a critical thinker stand on firmer ground. Better decisions and problems solving are more credible and supported by reasons and facts instead of false information and statements.

Throughout the years, Critical Thinkers have learned ways to become effective when it comes to decision making and problem solving. Critical Thinking requires you to actively use your mind to mentally process thoughts and listen to ways to learn different ideas. Some people may lack the ability to apply critical thinking which inhibits thinking independently and open mindedly. This literature will examine several ways to become an effective critical thinker. This paper will determine what critical thinking really consists of, and ways to develop you're critical thinking in order to make a quick problem solving solution and decisions. It will also compare the effectiveness of a critical thinker versus a non-critical thinker.
Implementing critical thinking into the working environment is a very useful tool. Rick D. Rudd (2007) states that, "Individuals who can think critically are invaluable as employees, leaders and members of society (Rudd, 2007)." The ability to solve problems at work by breaking the problem down to a step by step solution makes a quality employee. Companies tend to consider employees with critical thinking skills as a valuable asset to the company.
When I think of critical thinking and how I would define it, the simplest definition is having the ability to solve or argue and issue by using unbiased, evidenced backed ideas. In any profession, a person must have the ability to solve problems and work with others. Having a biased opinion and not including other’s ideas and opinions into your own thought forces you to not have an open mind and limits expanded knowledge. In my career I have had to engage in multiple interviews. One of the things I found interesting in all of them was the focus on individuals ability to use critical thinking to solve complex, challenging issues. Critical thinking is utilized by a person who might be having a problem, a need to find a solution. A critical thinker first has to find ways to confront the issues in order to find the best solution.
