In science, evolution is one of the basic templates to understand the biology of an organism or ecological unit. Changes in that ecosystem cause adaptations to occur in species, if there is time. With human intervention (pollution, climate change, deforestation, etc.) many species do not have time to adapt, and therefore move to a new environment or become extinct.
It is the change in inherited traits of a population through a process called natural selection in which only the strongest traits are appropriately adapted to the environment, thus those traits from parents who live longer and are healthier are passed down to future generations. Evolution is the product of two opposing forces: variation in traits and mutation (Futuyma, Evolution). Darwin's views convinced the scientific, and many others, that the world was not static. Instead, life is and has been continually evolving. One cannot imagine how much of a paradigm shift this was it turned religion and philosophy around to the point that even in the 20th and 21st centuries the idea is considered so dangerous that it should be regulated in its dissemination, especially to children. Some see this explanation of life as the central organizing force that allows for complexity. Darwin's natural selection is such a process that accounts for evolution to the point of both human minds and societies. Common descent is organisms are descended from one, or several common ancestors and have diversified from this original stock. Species multiply is the diversification of life involving populations of one species diverging until they become two separate species; this has probably occurred billions of times on earth. Gradualism is evolutionary change occurring through incremental small changes within populations; new species are not created suddenly. Animals and plants of all sorts undergo changes through natural selection. The peacock is a unique animal that stood out to me that undergoes natural selection.

Some reasons why beaks were thought to be so useful for testing Darwin’s theory of natural selection was because it seemed that the more favorable variations in their beaks will be passed down. Another reason was because there were more variations in the beaks depending what the finches ate so he could study a variety of beaks.
