I am applying to the Walden M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program. I plan to practice as a licensed professional in counseling and Higher Education. I have always wanted to be a Clinical Mental Health Psychologist, working with individuals to help improve their mental and emotional health is something that I am committed to. Starting this program now is the best time because the information that I learned from my undergrad career would help me to be more successful in my grad career by learning more but at an advanced level. Once I receive my degree I plan to go back to school to get my doctorate degree in psychology, and utilize the skills that I have learned to open my own private practice that helps individuals who suffer with mental and emotional disabilities, within my practice I plan to let each individual patient talk about their issues and come up with a strategic plan for treatment. I am currently in my final year studying a Bachelor of Business majoring in Management and Logistics. I completed my high school education at a well respected school in Brisbane and received good grades, however, I was unsure of what career path I wanted to follow. I was accepted into a Bachelor of Business but deferred University to work as a retail assistant and travel. I decided to change my course of action and applied for a position for a Bachelor of Nursing. I was accepted and completed 1.5 years of the degree. However, as we run a family business, a dealer of new and used commercial trucks and trailers, my father encouraged me to transfer back into a Bachelor of Business to further my education as a business graduate. Once I transferred into the Bachelor of Business program, I commenced work as a Store Person in one of our warehouses. As I furthered my education and sustained unrelated injuries, which prevented me from working in the position, I was transferred into the Parts department to work as a Parts Administration Assistant. I soon moved down the Gold Coast and transferred from Nathan campus to Gold Coast campus to continue my studies. I commenced a new position as Online Store Coordinator and Marketing Assistant at our Yatala branch.

I am what would be considered a non-traditional applicant for medical school. As an undergraduate I did not know I wanted to be a physician, and I chose to major in electrical engineering. I have spent several years out of school employed in a professional environment working as a team member and utilizing my critical thinking skills. I have had experiences both professionally and personally beyond what the typical medical school applicant may have had. There are various steps I have taken since the last application cycle to strengthen my application. For instance, through taking an anatomical kinesiology course, a developmental psychology course, re-taking the prerequisite biology I and II courses, and gaining hands on experience by working as a physical therapy aide. I made myself available to prospective students. I believe people are more likely to carry out a plan when it is written down and with expected timeline for completion. My motto is that actions speaks louder than words, and when a young person approached me about a career guidance, usually I give out an empty binder with sheet protectors. They need to write down their goals with timeline of when to accomplish that goals. They are required to bring the binder to our future meetings. Some appreciate my style, others are intimidated. My goal is to continue to reach out and mentor young minorities and help develop their interest in medicine. Pine City School District has 214 full time employees and 20 part time employees (H. Marie, personal communication, November 17, 2017). Of these employees positions include district office employees, principals, office staff, teachers, nurses, paraprofessionals, and janitorial staff (H. Marie, personal communication, November 17, 2017). The district office employees are working on behalf of the entire school district by making decisions for the whole of the district. They are the hub of the schools taking calls in regards to community education, food service, finances, and education needs. The principals are at each school and they over see the school as a whole. They work in the best interest of their students and staff.
