David Beckham David Robert Joseph Beckham OBE (born May 2, 1975) is an English footballer born in Leytonstone, London. He is a midfielder for Real Madrid and captain of the English national team. He is noted for the quality of his crossing and ability to hit free-kicks and corners, particularly at long-range free-kicks and also for his marriage to a Spice Girl. He has played most of his career for Manchester United. Although there are arguably many better current players in world football none are as famous. Manchester United 1995-2003 Beckham first signed a YTS (youth training scheme) contract (this is similar to an apprenticeship) with United in 1991, and made his League debut in 1995, aged 19. The next year he helped the side to the …show more content…
His leadership, mainly by example due to his fitness and workrate helped England to qualify for the 2002 World Cup Finals and the 1-5 defeat of Germany in Munich during a qualifier (a pivotal event for English football fans). The final step in Beckham's conversion from villain to hero happened in England's 2-2 draw against Greece. Needing only one point from the match in order to qualify for the World Cup, Beckham dragged an otherwise poor England side to qualification with sheer determination and a perfectly executed, last-minute free kick. Meanwhile, taking the role of captain seems to have helped mature him, in both skill and temperament. Beckham played in all England's matches at Euro 2004, but failed to shine. He had his penalty saved by former Manchester United team-mate Fabien Barthez in his side's 2-1 defeat to France in their opening group game. Then, when England's Quarter-Final against hosts Portugal went to a penalty shootout, he was the first England player to attempt a shot. Beckham fired his shot far over the crossbar and England went on to lose the shoot-out 6-5 after Englishman Darius Vassell also missed. Beckham later blamed the miss on the poor state of the pitch, the British press blamed referee

Thomas Becket (also known as Thomas à Becket, although many people consider this incorrect)[1] was born in London sometime between 1115 and 1120, though most authorities agree that he was born December 21, 1118, at Cheapside, to Gilbert of Thierceville, Normandy, and Rosea or Matilda of Caen. His parents were of the upper-middle class near Rouen, and Thomas never knew hardship as a child.
What you want in comparison to what your family expects form you is a common disagreement through most family households. In the movie ‘Bend it like Beckham’ we saw the conflict between jess and her parents on how they feel and what they want for her, how jess sees the situation and how it is resolved. Throughout Jess’s journey she is constantly pulled in what she truly wants and what here family/culture expects (internal conflict).
The place was Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Day was Friday, August 7, 1987. On this day, a man, Troy, and a woman, Trina, rejoiced in the birth of their first born child, a son. A son that would soon choose to live, eat, and breathe hockey. A child, unknown at the time, who would soon take the National Hockey League by storm. Ricardo Kaka, renowned AC Milan/Real Madrid player and native Brazilian, he is one of the most openly religious players in soccer and has contributed much of his personal funds to founding churches and supporting charities. Furthermore, Ricardo Kaka demonstrates a level of humility not often seen in the sporting world especially at the level he has competed at and the awards that he has received. After receiving the Ballon D’Or, the highest individual award in soccer, in 2007 (the last player to do so since the Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo winning streak) he attributed the skills

My two texts are “The Namesake” and “Bend it like Beckham”. Our prescribed text, Jhumpa Lahiris “The Namesake” explores the link to belonging in detail. The emphasis is on Gogol Ganguli. Gogol struggles with a sense of belonging to his family and his Bengali culture and heritage throughout his life in the course of the novel. Born and raised in the U.S., while his parents spent their entire life in India following Bengali culture and practices and moved on to America as young adults. Gogol must try to find a sense of belonging as he deals with trying to belong in American society, while following his Bengali traditions. This shares many similarities with Jesmindar Bhamra, the main character in my related text, “Bend it Like Beckham”. The
In the 1740s the Puritan faith experienced mass revival. A major pillar in said revival was the sermon Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God by Jonathan Edwards. It was a message so frightening, hysteria was reported amongst its audience. Besides being the trope-maker of ‘fire and brimstone’ sermons, what made it so effective? Three things: the delivery of the message, the analogies and examples throughout the speech, and Edwards’ use of human psychology to sway his audience to his goal.
After Cristiano’s spell in Manchester, he made a record setting transfer to Real Madrid in 2009. He was ready for a change and stated that he wants to play a different style of football and face a new challenge. Striving to be the greatest, Cristiano set out to Spain looking to break new records and pick up his second Ballon D’or after winning it the first time that previous year. This chapter in his life brought him head to head with his rival Lionel Messi, who is also a contender for the Player of the Year Award. In fact, Messi went on to win the award 4 consecutive years after Ronaldo picked it up for the first time. This fueled Ronaldo do impeccable things on the football pitch. He set club and league records in 2014, just 5 years after arriving in Madrid. He became the all-time leading goal scorer for his club and the player with the most hat-tricks in the history of the league. This helped him to win the Ballon D’or for the 2nd time in 2013 and to him it was the most meaningful award yet.
To Cristiano's fortune Manchester United was in dire need of a midfielder after superstar David Beckhman left to play for Real Madrid. The void created by Beckham was huge and Manchester United had to fill it up with a superstar who could take them to the promised land. After a lot of speculation and drama surrounding the replacement, Manchester United finally signed Cristiano Ronaldo after his stint with Sporting CP ended in 2003.From the very day Cristiano signed with Manchester United, his football career took off and hasn't slowed since. In the same year he also made his debut for the national team of Portugal playing in a match against Kazakhstan. In the following year, Ronaldo put up one of his best performances. In the World Cup qualifying games the superstar midfielder scored 7 goals and made his presence felt in the Portuguese national team. Only a year later in 2005, Cristiano Ronaldo netted 11 goals for his country in 25 appearances. Although the up and coming superstar was making waves in the international football stage, controversy hit in the 2006 World Cup and it involved someone that was closely linked to him at his club Manchester United.
