There are three reasons for siding for the death penalty: Incapacitate, deterrence, and revenge. Incapacitation removes those who do harm upon a society and ultimately it gets rid of a ‘bad person’ without giving them a chance to parole and continue their crimes. In addition, this promotes deterrence within a community and stops crimes before they even happen. However, some people do question if deterrence even works, in theory the probability of the death penalty should stop serious crime altogether but that only accounts for those criminals who are planning the crime and have time to think about the possible consequences. Those crimes that are committed in the ‘heat of the moment’ will never have any real deterrence. Revenge is another reason
The death penalty is the only suitable punishment for murderers. The death penalty insures that criminals know that if they kill they will be killed, and they are going to receive a harsh punishment. Also it could be cheaper than sentencing a prisoner to life in prison. People feel that the death penalty is too harsh of a punishment. Which that would be a harsh punishment but they took another human's life. So they need to have a harsh punishment so people know they can not get away with murder. The death penalty insures that a murderer won’t kill again.
The death penalty is an overkill of our society’s morality. Our humanity will be lost if we allow the death penalty. Humanity consists of our ability to have moral considerations towards life which is looking at more than just happiness that utilitarians tend to do. Innocence, being understanding, valuing people and things in life, and being virtuosic are views that keeps our humanity. There comes a time when people act off of emotions and decide to push away their morals. Some may consider killing someone for their crime, but that makes us just as bad as them. Now, we are the killer. People have impulses that can become irrational and
Now many would think what type of pros can you receive the death penalty? One pro would be retribution this is just to make sure that the person takes full reasonability of the crime they committed and know that they are being punished for it. The next one would be deterrence which will help them understand that they should engage in no form of a crime because of the consequences behind it, however, I don’t believe that it actually works all the time because many individuals learn the consequences of a crime in elementary school from DARE. Less damage is adopted to prevent more now this can mean different levels to many. Well, a criminal is like the flu, they are an airborne virus to society. They affect everyone’s life rather they realize it or not. The death penalty is actually cheaper than what people think. Society pays less for individual who are sentenced death than those who are not. The death penalty eliminates all the negative on society if a person kills someone we never have to worry about that person again because they will be put to death and never have a chance to hurt society
The idea of capital punishment deterring crime is difficult to determine; some could rationalize that the death penalty should in theory stop potential murders from committing crimes. However, this rationalization has never been concretely proven. The research into capital punishment’s effect on deterrence is immense; however, the majority of research on this issue has differential findings. Although some research suggests conclusively that capital punishment deters crime, others found that it fails to do this. Understanding deterrence, the death penalty, and the results of
Ever since the beginning of time man has committed crimes. Crimes were described as acts which go against the social and moral norms of society and people. People have learned to deal with these crimes in many different ways. One of the most used forms of dealing with crime is punishing those who commit crimes. There are numerous ways in which people have punished those who commit crimes throughout history from making the criminal pay fines to banishing them from the community. However, in modern times, there are fewer acceptable forms of punishment that are used. For very unserious crimes, governments may simply make a criminal pay a small fine or do service for the community in some way. Offenders who
The first reason is that every one is going to die at the end so if he or she dies by the capital punishments or diseases are the same and this is a weak reason to agree with the death penalty. The second reason is that the criminals can do other crime inside the jail or after escaping or being released from it. As a result. The execution is permanently removes the worst criminals from society. In my opinion, execution is not a strong reason because they may not do any crimes in the future. The third reason is that keep the criminal life in the jail for a long time cost a lot of many for the country. So, death penalty save money for many countries and this is a strong reason to agree with the execution. The fourth reason is retribution. We can say " an eye for an eye ", so the criminal is made to suffer in proportion to the offence, and this is a strong reason for the capital punishment. The last reason is that death penalty is deter for many people from doing crimes, so it is become one of the strongest reason to execution the
The Death Penalty has aided or the U.S. in times where large crimes have been committed and the perpetrator has been convicted for their crimes. When the prisoner is taken into prison, they take up more space in another prison where it already is overcrowded. Secondly, Tax money that is taken away from law abiding citizens is given to prisons to care for them. Thirdly, for some of the most gruesome, cold-blooded, killers the death penalty is the only reasonable punishment for him/her to face. Therefore the Death Penalty has helped many people in many ways. Yes, there are some naysayers that disagree with this argument that would like to share their opinion. Surely this can help them understand that the death penalty helps more than it hurts.
First, the death penalty gives some closure to the victim's families who have suffered enormously. Family members of the crime victims may take years, even decades to recover from the shock and loss of a loved one. Though, some may never recover. But the one thing that helps hasten this recovery is to achieve some kind of closure. Because life in prison only means that the criminal is still around to haunt them. A death sentence would enable them to close that
The death penalty is engaged to show governmental power and is used against people to show others that you will not have the right to live if commit such a terrible crime. People have been killed by the death penalty for many reasons such as treason, terrorism, espionage and murder. Having the death penalty gives closure to the families victim, justice is better served, and deters criminals from committing crimes. Think about if you were close to a victim who traumatized or even killed by a master criminal. You would want the same to be served to the harsh owt law who endangered your
The death penalty is a lot like the statement “crying over spilled milk” in the sense that it is pointless and makes no real difference with regards to the situation. The death penalty was created as a punishment for crimes committed, but even from the beginning crime was still a problem and the punishment was not a deterrent. The history concerning the death penalty is extensive and can be found documented all the way back to Ancient Babylon in 18th Century BC (Reggio). It was used as punishment for a variety of crimes varying from place to place and was, in some instances, used as the punishment for all crimes. In every one of the places and time spans where the death penalty was implemented crime was still present. Criminals were not deterred by the threat of death even then and today is no different. If someone wants to commit a crime badly enough, not even death can change their mind.
Throughout United States history, there has been controversy over the death penalty. Should serious criminals be punishing with death, or should we outlaw the death penalty? Many people think that deterrence is one of the good justifications for the death penalty, but others believe that death penalty is the same type of crime that the criminals commit. The violation of the human rights is the main reason why some people want to outlaw capital punishment; also the state violates the human’s rights for inmates during the cruel time that they spend on death row. The evidence that capital punishment may very well deter murder had been in doubt, based on the irrational idea that killing another human life can be a bad example for society. In
Imagine being sentenced to death by your government; the institution that is supposed to protect your rights, and then waiting years for the killing blow to land. Imagine the constant fear and anxiety you would endure; nobody deserves that torment. The death penalty is still legal in many parts of America and dozens of people are killed every year. In Canada, the death penalty has been abolished since 1976 and there is little support for reinstatement. This is not the case in America, while many states have stopped using capital punishment there are still thirty-one that continue to follow the practice. These states claim that it is cheaper than imprisoning someone for life, that it acts as a deterrent, and is a just punishment for atrocious
There are so many pro’s as to why we as a country need the death penalty. One of those reasons are, it provides closure for the victims, and or family members. The death penalty ensures families, and surviving victims that the murderer will be not be able to strike again. For example, a surviving victim will never feel closure unless the murderer himself is put to death. Meanwhile, the less fortunate ones who were murdered, raped, kidnapped, and etc. will never find closure until that person gets what they deserve.
Almost a month ago, I accidently came across the Stanford Prison Experiment documentary, which is available to view on Youtube. The document based on real event in Stanford University. It is an experiment to study psychology of imprisonment on prisoners and guards by dividing selected Stanford students into two groups. As the time passed, the researchers have discovered some drastically changes in both groups within days. At the end, Dr. Philip Zimbardo, one of the researchers concluded that, “these students were physically and psychologically suffered, and nobody have right or privilege to do that to other people.” The document have raised many questions in my head. Does the death penalty
I strongly believe in the death penalty because it deters crime. According to James Pitkin (2008) “Advocates of the death penalty argue that it deters crime, is a good tool for police and prosecutors (in plea bargaining for example), makes sure that convicted criminals do not offend again and is a just penalty for atrocious crimes such as child murders, serial killers or torture murderers.”
