Beauty does not define a person. Beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, which pressures the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. Being able to define who someone really is, does come from those qualities. Someone’s personality comes from inside of someone. The outside only shows part of us but not who someone really is. Beauty does say or show the real qualities of who someone truly is.

“Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it” (Marilyn Monroe). There are many different ways that beauty can be explained. Beauty is not always what people think it may be especially when it has many different meanings. Beauty can be a person place or thing. What people considers beautiful may not be beautiful to another. Beauty is not only something that pleases the eyes, but also pleases the other senses and the mind. True beauty makes you see beyond the pretty sights. It will give you insight or understanding of something amazing beyond just the outer appearance. Beauty is confidence and having a beautiful personality.

What does being beautiful really mean? It is the possessing qualities that give great pleasure or satisfaction to see, hear, or think about. It goes way beyond the looks but what is within. The media seems to have a different view on beauty. Although all females are beautiful, they feel like they need to appear a certain way to be categorized as such. Living in a world where others opinions are more powerful than one’s own, makes it harder for women to actually consider themselves as being beautiful.

The subjective element of beauty involves judgment, not opinion. Many people feel beauty is only something seen by the eyes. St. Thomas Aquinas views beauty in both the supernatural and natural orders. Aquinas lists the attributes of beauty to be found in nature. These are; unity, proportion, and clarity. We will see how these attributes of beauty are seen through the eye and felt by the heart.

Since the beginning of civilization there have been beauty standards, but as time has gone on, they have continually evolved and changed into what they currently are now. What was once beautiful two hundred years ago may only be average or desired by some, whereas in the past that may have been the most popular look or body type. However for decade’s women put beauty to the side and focused on the evolution of their rights and equality, but now since they have attained many of the same rights as their male counterparts the importance of gender equality seems to be changing.
