What do you think of when you hear the word hero? Ohhh wait, you are probably thinking cool people with cool powers. And I know some people in my family think cool people with cool powers, So I actually asked 5 of my family members and 4 of them said superheroes, except for my dad, he said “I think a hero is someone who puts others ahead of themselves.” After I heard that it really gave me a new perspective on what a real hero is. In the next few minutes I will tell you about what it means to be a hero, heroes in my life, and finally what you can do to be a hero. So what does it mean to be a hero? Well according to the urban dictionary, a hero is a man or woman praised by their achievements. I thought that was pretty vague so I came up with what I think what a hero is. They can be strong, courageous, or they can even be from Greek mythology. Some heroes in my life include my mom, my dad, my grandma and my grandpa. My mom is my hero because she sees the best in me and tries her best whether it’s against her better judgment to make my life as good as it can be. My dad is also my hero because he supports me in whatever I do, whether it is in sports such as football, basketball or soccer, or in my academic or personal life. He allows me to be myself, and I appreciate that. My grandma is one of my heroes because she is suffering through ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease yet still makes you feel happy when you are around her.
