Fearless What is the definition of a hero? Christopher Reeve, the actor who played superman himself, said this about heroes, “I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” A child might describe one as “the good guys in the movies.” No matter your description, the novel Fearless by Eric Blehm which, discusses Navy SEAL, Adam Brown and his super-wife Kelley, shows what being a hero is all about. Adam and Kelley exhibit the characteristics that every Hero should have, by leading with compassion, faith, and fearlessness. Throughout the story, the reader gets to see our heroes lose their way, hit rock bottom, and most importantly we get to see them rise back up. Adam and Kelley showed that they were true heroes through compassion. Adam Brown was a part of Navy SEAL Team Six, a group of 16 of America’s biggest bad asses. Most people would assume that the words used to describe Adam Brown would have been hard, cruel words, but these people would have been wrong. Adam had something that only true heroes have deep within them, and that was compassion. Adam had compassion for everything he did throughout his life. He showed compassion when he was in high school playing football, a sport at which Adam excelled. He was regarded as one of the smallest people on the team in his younger years, but also known as one of the hardest workers that the coaches had ever seen.
