I am writing you on behalf of the undergraduate Chapter of Delta Upsilon at San Jose State University to formally respond to the allegations that have led to the emergency suspension of the chapter on May 14, 2016. Let me start by stating that we understand the seriousness of the issues at hand and intend to provide a detailed response and accountability to resolve the International Fraternity and the university concerns with our chapter. I am working directly with the alumni chapter advisor and corporation board members to fully document our understanding of the issues and the action plan we have proposed to resolve the allegations and issues. As the newly installed President of the chapter, I will do my best to relay all the facts and
Men of Alpha Phi Alpha such as James Felton and Vaun Davis are key to why I want to pursue my aspirations of someday becoming a brother of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity incorporated. Both James and Vaun’s unselfishness has allowed me to grow as a leader and also into a man. These role models have opened numerous doors for me that have resulted into various benefits and opportunities. I hope my encounters with great Alpha Men such as James Felton and Vaun Davis will allow me the opportunity of joining the highly respected brotherhood. Another abundant encounter that I have experienced with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, is the true meaning and display of brotherhood. For years I have watched the interactions and connections of men of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated I have noticed that each member that I have encountered expresses and implements the true meaning of brotherhood. I profoundly believe in the bond of brotherhood and fraternity. In my belief, if granted the chance to uphold the unbreakable bond such as the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, the bond would enhance my credentials while assisting and challenging others. The brotherhood would push me to
"We believe this organization is the most open, frank, sincere and unbiased group on the campus and to have it continue is our ideal. We know no party lines, we harbor no petty jealousies, we tolerate the indifferent, back the worker, abhor the knocker, and idolize the person who shows that he has the welfare of the University at heart. We idolize him because he possesses these admirable qualities and it matters not to us how he demonstrates it. "In order to keep abreast with the remarkable growth of the school, we believe that the time is ripe for some changes and reforms to take place within the institution but safety and substantial progress does not lie in hysteria and agitation, so we advocate a sane and intelligent appreciation and knowledge of our existing laws, traditions and customs before attempting to improve what now exists. But having a respect for our existing habits and customs that border on veneration, we still believe that academics, athletics, and social conditions can be materially bettered by whole-hearted support and cooperation to the entire University personnel.” (Arizona Daily Wildcat)

My name is Jacob Dube and I currently serve as the President of the Florida Chapter of Delta Chi here at the University of Florida. In 1776, you all made a decision that would forever change the course of college history at the College of William and Mary and many other universities nationwide as you created the first American collegiate fraternity. I cannot express my gratitude for you as you all paved the way for the Greek system in a college and university setting. The Greek experience is one of a kind to all of its members, and it has helped produce some of the most successful people in our country. I would like to share to you some great news about today’s Greek systems here at the University of Florida and how you helped shape the success of so many Greek students.
Sweeney, C. J., delivered the opinion of the court. Plaintiffs Levi Pettit and Parker Rice, members of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) fraternity at the University of Oklahoma, were expelled from the university for “leading a racist and exclusionary chant which has created a hostile education environment for others” (President Boren’s Letter). The incident occurred on March 7th, 2015, on a private bus hired by the fraternity on which men from the SAE fraternity and their dates were riding back from a national celebration of their Founder’s Day.
As a freshman at OU, I also wrote a research paper just last year over this same subject, Sigma Alpha Epsilon known as SAE, at the University of Oklahoma and their racial chant that rocked the nation. I come from a small town in Texas that many of the high school graduates attend OU, and some have become the devastated members of SAE. My sister, Tara, also attends OU and is a senior, many of these “brothers” she knew dearly. When I first found out about this horrible act I was logged onto Facebook in my 9:30am class and saw many people “sharing” articles with the headlines, "Not On OUr Campus", and “Oklahoma Frat Boys Caught Singing 'There Will Never Be A N***** In SAE '.” As I began to read the heart wrenching articles, heartbroken, not focused on what was going on during class, but what was being said about the university I was about to attend in a few short months, a university that has been the topic of my conversations for so long. I began to get questions later on in the week, after the video went viral, if I was still going to attend “the racist school” and not one time that I was questioned did I regret my decision. The more the media dragged it out, the more information came to the surface. My parents were devastated and were worried for my sister, who is also a member of the Greek community. Then we began to worry as a family about all of the members we knew and began to question if they had anything to do with this downward spiral that has affected the nation.
Since 1750, starting with the Flat Hat Club, fraternities have been an essential aspect of social life for numerous college settings. Over 75 nationally recognized fraternities have been established in universities around the nation. This has caused many different opinions toward these secret societies. Universities have made the push to permanently remove fraternities from campuses. Racial slurs being streamed online, mass reports of sexual assault, and excessive financial obligations are but only a few of the allegations that Greek lettered societies have received throughout their existence. Nevertheless, despite the stereotypes associated with these organizations, there are numerous pros and cons that result from their existence on universities.
well-functioning, high-performing chapter must be closed because of university administrators’ misguided decisions, it’s nothing short of devastating. The temporary suspension of chapter operations of our Eta Theta Chapter, Harvard, has become a cautionary tale about the ramifications of misplaced blame and arbitrary sanctions. In response to a 2015 sexual conduct survey administered to students, the Harvard Sexual Assault Prevention Task Force expressed in its March 2016 report a need to address the “‘distinctive problems’ unrecognized single-sex social organizations, particularly final clubs, pose
Moorthy, Neelesh. "Fraternity Houses Cause Off-campus Tension." The Duke Chronicle. Duke Student Publishing Company, 16 Feb. 2015. Web. 21 July 2015.
Since the 1770’s, fraternities have existed to bring men collectively to teach about brotherhood and service. But over time that has started to include: wild, raging parties, sex, binge drinking, hazing and finding superiority over non-Greek affiliated college students. Fraternities have existed for hundreds of years and countless stories and studies have established them to be dangerous and exorbitant. So exactly why do we keep fraternities around? And what supremacy does universities have over Greek organizations to protect the image of their school and the students that attend? Fraternity men are in ample charge of their actions, but when their actions cause impairment that gravely reflects on the school, action needs to be taken. This is why Universities have the right to step in and ought to step in before situations become uncontrollable regarding Greek life. Author and activist Libby Nelson said that “Campus Greek life might be a monster- but it’s a monster colleges created.” And it’s a
Sigma Iota Delta is a community which is well known across the campus of Lipscomb University. First, the objective of this fraternity is to represent brotherhood and a love for Christ, because that truly is the message of Jesus Christ, our lord and savior. With it being said, that love for each other and a love for Christ is the central theme of
The airline industry is an extremely competitive industry and is also a highly seasonal industry. Profit can be drastically affected by fluctuations in energy prices or economic downturns (Maverick, 2015). Key financial metrics utilized by analysts in the airline industry include the quick ratio, the return on assets ratio and the debt capitalization ratio, which was already covered earlier (Maverick, 2015).
To ensure good health for the future of society, I believe that the top management of Delta must determine better directional strategy that can enable the company to continue to prosper, to grow and face its debts.
Recently, the idea of partaking in a fraternity has become more prevalent. Young adults are captivated with wanting to live the Greek life. The clothes and parties seem to drawn in teens like a magnet. However what these teens do not realize is the terrible things associated with fraternities. Many fraternities have a reputation for turning college students into drunks, treating women vulgarly, enacting violent hazing against other fraternity members and disrupting the true reason why students go to college. For these reasons fraternities should be banned altogether on college campuses.
