It has been six years since I started my training as a dental assistant at Plainview Oral. During that time, I had the privilege of having a mentor, Dr. Bass. In addition to watching the care and compassion he had towards each patient, I was also able to learn the techniques and instruments used for each procedure. Through that experience, my passion towards the field of dentistry grew and I realized that this is the career path for me. Having a job that is hands on and requires precision and accuracy is something I excel in. Working with other people as a team is something that I value. I want to be of service in a community by helping others and making dental care easy and comfortable. Many people are uneasy about going to the dentist; being
Last year, if you were to question where I saw myself in the next few years, my answer wouldn’t have been applying to college. During that time, I had a successful career as a store manager, and for the most part, that was all I could ever see myself doing. I excelled as a store manager, and I enjoyed the frequent interactions with the various diverse individuals that I got to experience. However, I was never elated nor passionate about that career choice. In fact, I can distinctively remember the moments where I would arrive home from work in the late hours of the night, pondering if this was all there was for me.
My whole life, it has been apparent to those around me that I would be a dentist. I am highly inquisitive, passionate, compassionate, experienced, and I love teeth. I remember getting so excited to have my teeth cleaned as a child because my trips to the dentist were so much fun! At a young age, my mother instilled the importance of oral hygiene care. To this day, I wonder if it was the dentist, dental hygienist, or just the dental office ambiance that had me engaged as a young child. Almost immediately after graduating high school, I went to school to become a registered dental assistant and at that point, I figured out that I possess good manual dexterity, which is a fundamental skill to be efficient in the dental field. At the same time, I unlocked the key to my calling, passion. Six years later, I realized I had the potential to
My life has truly been transformed by Dentistry; it has boosted my confidence and aligned me with the career path of my dreams. Early on in life, every aspect of Dentistry captured my heart. Learning to cope with my embarrassing smile inspired me to want to help others by giving them what they always dreamed of. Knowing I have the power to make someone's dreams come to life is the reason I wake up each morning with a drive and desire to achieve my goals. While striving with a strong focus, packaged with confidence and sincerity, I will pursue my passion through demanding training. I not only plan to be a hardworking, determined and ambitious student, but with my skills as an orthodontist, it will further my ability to be an active member in
To start, I have always had an interest in the health field and knew it was where I saw my future. I came across dental hygiene and quickly became fascinated. I learned just how important it can be and how many tend to overlook it. Given the opportunity, I would like to make sure my patients understand the importance of dental hygiene and share my knowledge. I feel because I have been given an opportunity that others weren’t so fortunate to receive; it is my responsibility to give back. I come from a small community in Northern New Mexico in which I plan to return and offer my knowledge and skills. I also have plans of doing missionary work for those who are unable to afford dental care. To be accepted into the prestigious Division of Dental
During this semester I had the opportunity to work along the side with many dentists, hygienists, assistants, treatment coordinators, and also financial coordinators at Dental Associates of Manchester. Dental Associates of Manchester is located at 120 E Fayette Street, Manchester, Ia 52057. While I was on the work site at Dental Associates my job duties were to watch how the dentist and hygienists work and clean inside a patient's mouth and their full routine of what they do before a patient comes in and after a patient comes in. While I was working up front my job duties were to watch and see how they interact with customers and how they go about signing in patients checking them out and also scheduling them for their next appointment if necessary.
I appreciated the opportunity to volunteer at my local dentist office and was fond of helping the hygienist prepare her tools, suctioning patients’ mouths, helping with periodontal charting, and sterilizing tools along with the equipment after each patient. I also took joy in communicating with the patients about my schooling and how I hope to become a dental hygienist. Many of the patients were generous and wished me luck in my future. The dentist of the clinic, Paul A. Sensor, enjoyed having me and said to update him about my future endeavors. After job shadowing Stephanie Korth and learning more about being a dental hygienist, it changed the way I viewed going to the dentist. She was a great example for me and she ensured me that this was the job for me. When I came to the Iowa Central Dental Hygiene Clinic, I found myself asking the student hygienist questions about the process of the examination that I wouldn’t have known about before. I see this profession in my future knowing I want to impact people’s health in a positive way. I also want a job that is going to challenge me to reach my full
Our teeth are some of the most overworked bones in our body. We use them to grind, gnaw, crush, and pulverize food every day. Despite this workload, we still expect our teeth make us look fabulous when smiling for the camera. Imagine life without teeth. Imagine life with false teeth. Would we smile as much? Would we still enjoy our favorite foods? Let’s explore these questions further as they have played major role in my short career as a registered dental assistant.
At the age of 16 I had my son Ezikel, he is now six years old and is a wild, exciting, creative young boy he is my biggest blessing. When I found out I was going to have a child at such a young age I had one thing on my mind and that was “I refuse to be a statistic” I went on to find a high school for teen moms; Florence Crittenton High School, I was determined to graduate high school and move on to college. I completed High School in 2011 and got a scholarship I went to CCD but I felt it wasn’t quick enough for me , I felt as if I had to rush and get a career to support me and my son. I then went to working dead end jobs I felt like a failure, this is not what I planned on for my post high school life, I felt ashamed and I had let my son down.
Dental assistant need to follow the universal precaution that OSHA has lay for them to protect themselves from getting physically hurt and avoid getting ill from infected patients in the job. The three main modes of transition when working in a dental office are by open wounds, eyes or mouth exposure and accidentally getting poke by a use needle. Knowing how bacteria and viruses survived gives dental assistant the advantage of fighting them off. Bacteria are all around us; even inside of us, helping the human body work properly. Some bacteria make individuals ill, but good bacteria fight out harmful bacteria making the human body feel better. The more good bacteria the human body has the less room it leaves for harmful bacteria. Not like bacteria
Growing up as a child I always wanted to a Dentist but through the many paths that life offers, I have taken a few unplanned paths. After attending a four-year university on a softball scholarship and receiving degrees in Exercise Science which covered most of the requirements for dental schools, a Business degree with the plan of owning my own office one day, and a degree in Public Health to have a broad basis of needs and approaches for the general public. Following my bachelor’s degree, I set out and completed the remaining requirements for dental school as well as three lengthy internships within the dental field. During my time interning under a dental hygienist, a dentist, and a dental surgeon, I was able to confirm what I once thought
If I were to be climbing a mountain, I would say that I feel like I’m still at the very bottom of it. I have SO MUCH to learn, but I understand it takes time and experience to feel like I really know what I’m doing. I can’t wait to get to the point where I feel so comfortable instrumenting in someone’s mouth that I could do it without thinking. However, I believe that with time it will all come together. I have to say, I feel really proud of myself for being where I am at right now. If someone had told me 10 or 20 years ago that one day I would be a year away from becoming a dental hygienist, I would have not believed them. I can remember looking into dentistry back when I was in high school, when I lived in Mexico, of even touring the school, but not pursuing the career because I was afraid of failure. I decided to follow my sister’s steps and going to the university to study something completely different. However, I was never satisfied. It took years for me to decide to go back to school, I always had an excuse why not to, including among other things my age, but like the saying says, “it’s never too late.” I’m thankful to my husband who encouraged me to take the first step and look into programs that I would like. It was then that I remembered the curiosity I had had in dentistry. When I came across the dental hygiene

My gratitude for obtaining a scholarship because I am hard-working, driven and compassionate would not go without the utmost dedication to the field of dentistry. When I was fifteen, I started working for an oral surgeon as a dental assistant and at that point I knew what lies ahead for my future.
In January 2009 I found myself back in college studying dental assisting. This career change was a total change from working at General Motors in Hartland, MI. Not fully knowing the path that awaited, I jumped into the dental assisting program and it was full steam ahead. The two-year program was compressed into a nine-month program with practically no room for anything else on the outside. During the program, my wife and I were also planning our wedding that was planned for June 20th, 2009.
