A family member could suffer from depression and I decide to study depression and suicide. When a family member aches from depression, your console and cheer can play a vital part in his or her recovery. Nevertheless, depression can break you down if you neglect your own wants. Depression is a serious but curable illness that disturbs a lot of individuals, from young to old people and all humans being. It becomes the part of everyday life, triggering massive pain, hurting not just individuals who can be miserable from it, but then again too striking everybody around them. If you know someone or a family member is depressed, you may have to be experiencing any number of difficult feelings, counting powerlessness, hindrance, anger, anxiety, guiltiness, and unhappiness. These moods are all are all usual. It is not easy taking care of family member’s depression. In addition, if you do not take care of yourself first, it can also turn out to be devastating. With there are many steps that you can take to help the loved ones. First, you must start by educating them about depression and how to talk about it. It will be also beneficial for you because you should learn it. But as you reach out, do not forget to look later your personal emotional well-being. Thinking about your own requests is not an act of egoism, but it is a requirement. Your emotional strong point will permit you to help the continuing support depressed friend or family member needs. Depression has many different effects and consequences on both the person and their family. These consequences that both parties have to face, when dealing with depression, can be physical, social, emotional and mental. Some of the consequences on the person are; pain, sexual dysfunction, decreased immune system functionality, reject school or work and the worst consequence of all is suicide (The refuge, 2016). The effects on family are; rejection by family member, deal with them doing bad at school, deal with them always sad, have to deal with losing a family
Have you ever been through a tough situation and felt like there was no solution? Many people do and unfortunately many people also solve their solution by ending their life. In fact, every 13 minutes, someone commits suicide in the U.S (http://www.save.org/). Whether your friends or acquaintances, chances are you will know someone who has committed suicide. However, this doesn’t have to be the case. Urban Meyer, current coach of the Ohio State football team, once stated, “Are you going to be the problem or the solution?” An organization known as the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) has decided they will be the solution to suicide.
"Spouses, children, parents, siblings, and friends experience frustration, guilt, and anger when a family member is immobilized and cannot function. It is often hard for others to understand the depth of the mood and how disabling it can be." (Boyd, pg. 405) It can be difficult to live with a depressed person, and the lack of understanding can even go so far as to lead to abuse. Depression may affect a person 's ability to lead productive lives, care for those under their protection, or even care for themselves.
Thesis: While Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem, I believe That Suicide is wrong.
Occasionally everyone has suffered from depression, weather it was long term or short term. Feeling hopelessness, irritablity, or feeling anxious or “empty” these symptoms can greatly effect people’s daily routines. Suddenly, waking up in the morning, trying to fall asleep or simply interacting with other people becomes one of the most difficult challenges. Depression can be cause by many things such as financial issues, relationship problems, family problems or an individual just may not be happy. Although, if this person uses their social imagination it may be a little easier for them to cope with their depression. Looking at their problems in a more general perspective helps them realize they are not alone and these are daily problems
Depression is a common and serious illness that negatively affects how people feel, the way they think and act. It can affect not only people’s minds, but their entire bodies. Depression results in feelings of sadness, isolation, guilt, and sometimes physical pain. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems decreasing a person’s ability to function at work and at home (American Psychiatric Association). Over 15 million adults that live in the United States suffer from depression each year. Everyone probably knows of someone that is touched by this illness.
Day to day, teens suffer from peer pressure, problem from home, and stress from academics. Despise their status in the environment, majority of high school students refrain from acknowledging the presence of their reality. The problem in most situations in that students feel shut in, trapped in a never ending misery. How do they cope? What are their ways of dealing? Most students live in denial. Others have friends to confide in. For the devastating part, most students are not as open to these ideas and it leaves them with this alternative: suicide. Suicide is the third leading cause in teens the ages 14 to 19 within rural underserved areas. Suicidal ideation (SI), suicidal thoughts, were surveyed in over 12 high schools and it was found that in the past year, thoughts of (SI) were not shared with peers or even adults in the pursuit of receiving help or support (Pisani, 2012). Because a student spends most of their day at school, it is ideal for schools to provide realistic opportunities and school-based programs to assist with the suicide among the youth. The Surviving the Teens Suicide Prevention and Depression Awareness Program designed four 50 minute session or each high school student. This presented information in regards to factual information about depression, suicidal warning signs, suicidal risk factors and myths associated with suicide (King, 2010). The program provide coping strategies for everyday life, referral sources if feeling suicidal, and how to recognize
The three main things you can do when you have an inkling or know someone is considering suicide are: talk, listen, and look for warning signs. Asking a person and having them talk about how they feel greatly reduces their feelings of isolation and distress, which in turn greatly reduces the immediate risk of suicide. Some issues may never be completely resolved by talking or counseling, but a good counselor should be able to help a person deal with those issues constructively, and teach them better coping skills/better methods of dealing with problems in the future. Just being there for someone in their time of need shows them that someone does care, and sometimes that can make the difference.
Depression has been a part of our lives for as long as humans have been on the earth. Everyone has had days when nothing was going right. But it all depends with an individual how to handled this adversity and how depressed that person becomes.
Many people at one point in their life have experienced the feeling of hopelessness. Hopelessness is described as a feeling of despair. Most people experience despair after a death, trauma, or being separated from a person or thing. Out in the world today, there are so many outlooks and strategies that are willing to help with this feeling of hopelessness. Outlooks such as people or even making plans and setting goals. Setting small goals and accomplishing them are a great way to boost self-esteem and prevent or reduce hopelessness. Hopelessness can lead to issues such as depression, low self-esteem, and suicide. These people may be able to use the bible to help them to cope with hopelessness. For example, Isiah 40-55 is a great explanation on how to restore hope.
When someone is depressed what they need to do the most is to get help. As an outsider it is helpful to support and encourage the person with depression to get therapy and to try and work through the depression. Also, the person with depression needs emotional support. When people with depression try to speak to a friend a lot of the time they feel like their friend does not understand what they are going through or feeling.
Someone, somewhere, commits suicide every 18 minutes. You might never be able to tell who it will be, it could be the person sitting right next . Statistics reveal that approximately three million youths, between 12-18, have either thought about or attempted suicide in the past year. More than 1/3, actually succeeded.
Depression affects everyone's life at sometime or another. Depression comes in a wide variety of forms, from mild unhappiness to a chemical imbalance in the mind. There are many different symptoms that reveal a person's problem with depression. If left untreated, depression may continue to develop into a serious illness or even death.
Family and friends become worried about this person. They don’t understand why this person may be depressed or know how to help. So in turn both the person and their loved ones feel helpless. People that have strong social support and loved ones to lean on tend to recover faster than people that isolate themselves or have no one.
For some teens, striving for perfection has led to harming their own health and wellbeing such as living with depression and suicide. Teenagers today are relying on what they see in ads, T.V., magazines and on the internet for their input on appearances, the way they think not only comes from media sources, but from family and friends.
